Well, that's what it said on Wiki and a few other sites about the origin of "February." The original term meant "purification" and that's kind of what we've all been doing. It is also the month of Love what with St. Valentine's day and all, so our decluttering can be a good way of showing ourselves love and those around us, eh? In that vein:

I am taking a pledge to improve my adherence to points and keep up the exercise I have been getting because I really do love myself and feel I am worth it.

When I am counselling someone through my metaphysical work, I often ask them to look in a mirror and speak love to themselves. It is surprising how difficult this can be, esp. for women. When we value ourselves, we may find it easier. This month, I will do some "mirror-work."

Thanks, my friends. Can you believe we've been at this for a year now!? Yea, for us!!

Hey Kat!

I've not been posting lately but have been up to lots of yoga and more so, physical work, getting the house ready for our adoption. This month I hope to get back to my more regular routine and also take a closer look at my points. I was doing Core so this switch to points is taking some time and really, I need to pay more attention to it. Today I am taking care of my body and my mom's too...giving us a little extra love by going out for a spa day....massages, a little wine, manicures...ah yes!! I've never been to something like this before and am looking forward to it!

Happy February my Friends!

Michelle

Now we have a Wii Fit and balance board, I suspect my activity levels in the house will increase... hopefully that will get me over that 15stone hurdle I've been missing since November... now I smell pasta in carbonara sauce... the accounting shall begin tomorrow... :D

2 mile walk to the sports centre this morning, 1 hours high intensity step aerobics class followed by a very brosk 2 mile walk home as it was snowing!

The scale has been firmly stuck at 201 for - what? - a couple weeks now.

I remind myself that it is a plateau, we hit them periodically, and if I persevere it WILL go down again.

Two bags of books to go to the used book store and see what they will take. The rest I leave for a charity that picks them up there.

This is part of streamlining the house so I can travel light.

Good going, folks!! Just a reminder, from one of the very first of these threads:

Please post your fitness/letting go of weight goals, as you meet them by the day/week/monthly. Also, feel free to post your goals in your first posting. I like that we've mixed in the encouragement/chatting, but I think it is good to keep focussed, too.

If you have already met your goals, maintaining them is important, too, but may only need to be noted weekly so as not to discourage others who are still struggling.

Well, Kat, in the interests of no thread creep, let me say that I solved today's puzzle on NPR (NAtional Public Radio -- a dying breed)

and the solution is:
very famous living woman

Michelle Obama

(take the accented sylabbles to make a word meaning very attractive woman)

ta da! bombshell

As far as I know this is legal. If I don't get to play, I hope another Mudcatter does.

Might have to do some thinking about the purification part of all this. Today was the day the Bishop came so bringing the pile here to my office at work had to wait a day or two...

But the pile is stacked and ready to pack off....

That's a lot of yardwork!

I posted about this on the other thread, but it counts here, too. 2+ hours of lifting and sorting through storage bins, walking and bringing them into the house or resorting them to storage, again. Plus laundry which counts at WW and some housecleaning.

From: wysiwyg

The below book was referenced in a great recent Bicycling Magazine article giving desk-day exercises and additional detail. (If you buy it, remember Amazon via Mudcat link please.) I definitely can recommend it-- it gives the science behind a lot of my own rehab.

~S~

====

Move a Little, Lose a Lot by James Levine, MD

New N.E.A.T. Science Reveals How to Be Thinner, Happier, and Smarter

Escape Your Desk Sentence!

Dr. James Levine, one of the country's top specialists in obesity, says America suffers from "sitting disease." We spend nearly ten to fifteen hours of our day sitting–- in cars, at our desks, and in front of the television. The age of electronics and the Internet has robbed us of the chance to burn up to 1,500 to 2,000 calories per day, leaving Americans less active (and much heavier) than we were thirty years ago. We are facing a human energy crisis.

What you need, according to this doctor's orders, is to get moving, or nonexercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT). NEAT is as simple as standing, turning, and bending. Research proves that daily NEAT activity burns more calories than a half hour running on the treadmill. Just by the very act of standing and moving, you can boost your metabolism, lower your blood pressure, and increase your mental clarity. It's about using your body as it was meant to be used. Move a Little, Lose a Lot gives you literal step-by-step instructions for small changes that equal radical results:

• Give at the office-–burn 2,100 calories a week just by changing your daily work routine.
• Hey, Einstein–- just like the scientist who thought up his most famous theory while riding his bike, you can increase production of new brain neurons in as little as three hours.
• Tired of being tired–reduce fatigue by 65 percent with low-intensity NEAT workouts.
• Don't forget–- an Italian study showed active men and women were 30 percent less likely to develop Alzheimer's disease.

No formal activity this morning BUT I am busy taping around windows and trim of the kitchen, preparing to paint. There was a time when I thought this would be entirely too tedious and uncomfortable but not now. I've turned on some yoga music and am enjoying a meditation in motion while I bend, twist and stretch to reach odd places....very relaxing actually...some of those twists feel oh so good on my back. YUMMY! Then there comes the actual painting, some areas needing a bit more primer...can't wait to see the results!

Regarding the above post, there are plenty of yoga things you can do at your desk too...not only helps to boost calorie burn but is inconspicuous, can be done anytime and your body will thank you for it in not only the release you feel but in the energy you gain. Open up those pathways...your body LOVES this...well, MINE does! *G* I'll see what I can do about a link for some of these!

Namaste!

Michelle

Wys, I think it's either Gnu or Katlaughing calls it 'sitting vigorously'!

People at work have got used to me shuffling along in my chair, dancing to the tunes in my head and spinning round in half circles waving my arms in the air... It's great if you find you're starting to doze off.. and it stops people stealing your stapler.

Y this morning; day off.

202 on the scale. It's gotta be the large sloppy Joe (sans sugar) yesterday and the cheese sandwich for breakfast today.

Gotta be careful about not getting too compulsive about the food; a lot of anorexia in my family.

Yes, you can be overweight and be anorexic.

Still it's nice to be borderline obese instead of morbidly obese. My endo (endocrinologist, for diabetes) is very happy.

Still no luck finding the box of clothes which should fit now. There is only so much a belt can do.

I purified another 3 boxes of crap in my spare room, discovered more cat piss ( how DID he get up THERE??)

I've got more Christmas decoration and wrap than I could use for the rest of my life.

And all the packing boxes I was going to use when I moved. From 8 years ago.

Those of you who might be more "centre-aged" like me, please give me your opinion on something?

The treadmill I cajoled for has sat idle since last August when I injured my feet. I have used it maybe five times since. The doc and foot tech have both said they think I would do well with something like THIS and, I agree having used one in cardio therapy.

My quandary is this: should I sell the treadmill?

We need more space, it isn't being used, though Rog did say the other night his hope for me is to get better enough to use it, again. He got on it, for the first time, last night and quit after five minutes because it made his feet hurt and his feet never hurt. Liz, reminded me of what you said about treadmills not "giving."

I am not looking for excuses to get rid of it; I actually feel really good when I do use it, except for my feet. (Biggie, I know!:-)

This morning I was looking at the office to see how to make more space and it seems a good solution would to be able to move the rolling library "truck" out and, I know just the spot for it...where the treadmill sits.

Rog doesn't care, either way. He just wants me to be happy and do whatever I like/want/need.

So, now that I've rambled on, whaddaya think? Sell or no?

Kat, I think you have your answer already. The treadmill takes up room, it isn't being used, and it hurts both your feet and Rog's when you do use it. Clean sweep!

That's good, at least you know it'll go to a good home. Our excercise bike is being used as a clothes horse again since Limpit and Manitas swapped the computer room and her bedrooms around. It's too noisy to use in the bedroom when someone else is trying to sleep, and it's evenings when I most want to use it... so I can get hot and sweaty, then go have a nice relaxing bath to cool down. I've a feeling it may soon be going the way of your treadmill... taking up too much room to be useful and not used enough to be worth the room.

Thanks, Liz. My daughter asked me if I wanted the exercycle she has at it hurts her bum. If I remember rightly, I didn't like two different kinds I had because they hurt my lower back. We'll see. I hope you get to use yours soon if that is what you like.

Did do 30 of qi gong, today. Laundry and dishes which also gained me some points. I am changing my weigh in day as it has been Friday and I wind up spending all of my extra points over the weekend when we are out running errands and the *mood* strikes me. I think if I make it Wednesday, I will budget them better. I may even make it MOnday, but for now, I am going to start it tomorrow and see how it works out.

I did have a glimmer of my old self when I was doing qi gong, today. I have been neglecting the positive visualisations and giving thanks for what I want to manifest. I am going to make some cards with affirmations and put them around the house.

I did some sitting vigorously when I was outside with Morgan, today. The chair I sat in was just the right height for me to swing my legs, from the knee down, back and forth quite quickly. I did that until they felt tired and then did it, again.:-)

Started my day with incense and candles on my sanctum and got some affirmation cards made and put up in strategic places - bathroom mirror, desk, sanctum, etc. I am beginning to feel more balanced.

I switched my weigh-in day and I *think* it is helping. At least since changing it to Wed., I still have plenty of extra points left to take me through the weekend. When it was on Friday I used them all up, as I said, on the weekend and then really struggled. I had been unsuccessful at keeping within my points range for several weeks, just barely losing a few tenths of pounds. I am doing better with the change of day.

I've been poorly this week but yesterday and today I've been back on the WiiFit. I snuck down early this morning, closed the curtains and muted the TV and did some yoga with the WiiFit. Don't try doing 'The Tree' when you've just moisturised your legs and have shorts on.

My Sun Salutation seems pretty stable but it's stretching out muscles that my pony-tailed virtual trainer hasn't mentioned yet... should I be worried?

As a result of all this stealth yoga, I'm down a couple of pounds - but still hovering around that blasted 15stone mark... Hopefully an afternoon of furniture shifting will count towards something.

This is a far cry from getting the job. Tehy will weed resumes some more, then the interview, then the offer.

The Yoga programme doesn't go through a whole workout, it just goes through each move/position indiviually, but it does emphasise the breathing bit. It starts off with a deep breathing exercise and there is a reminder in each movement, along with an indicator of just how your balance is. Having never done yoga before, it strikes me as a great way to start off, but not a replacement for a proper class. You have to spend so much time doing various exercises and training for another movement to unlock, thus resisting the temptation to rush straight in to the hardest position thought, so that's something. My 'Tree' was a little more stable this morning (pre-moisturiser) but my Warrior has gone to pieces!

I don't feel any 'looser' yet, but it's doing my frozen shoulder the power of good!

Official weigh-in on Wednesday so hopefully I can confirm whether that elusive 14stonesomething has been reached.

Well done all!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Liz that the weigh in gets you past the 15 stone mark.

Last night I did a 4 mile walk and an hours LBT class. This morning I'm so stiff it's unreal!

Got my membership sorted out and I can now book my classes online which is a big help.

'puter haas the blue screen of death this morning; I may have been forced into 'puter shopping before I really wanted to.

A shade below 200 at the Y this morning, and, yes, I did my nautilus.

Welllll.... I'm still not down past that 15st marker yet, but I have lost a whole stone since the beginning of September! Whoo hoo!! YAY ME!!!

I have to get back on track and follow my green and red days more closely, and stop guessing at amounts, so hopefully next week will have another loss and another milestone - literally!
