From: Bobert Date: 02 Feb 09 - 04:44 PM Well, it's been a long time since I boought a new keyboard and most of the letters had worn off my old one years ago but me and thr P-Vine were in Staples today and these things is cheap now adays so I forked over 15 bucks and now I'm lookin' at all the nummers and ledders just like everybody else... Purdy cool... I didn't know where alot of these things were... Like the most every thing from the "e" down to the "c" andover to the "i" down to the "."... Now maybe I'll be able to do bedder at typeratin' and all... Wow, this is kinda fun... abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz!!! B~ |

The split keyboard prevents many of MY most common mistakes...like the Y/T mixups. And all the gadgets like keyboard volume/mute control have spoiled me.....plus a single-click link to my favorite calculator. I do love my gadgets! |

I about a month, some nefarious person will post a joke. You will spew (for the sake of decency we'll say coffee) all over your new one, and it will immediately cease working. You will then need to pull out the old one so as not to miss out on the fun (and to reply to the jokester - no names implied), at least until the new keyboard dries out. IF THE (coffee?) SATURATED NEW ONE does NOT dry out immediate, it should of course join the original one in the corner when you get a new new replacement. It might dry out later ya' know. When you have a minimum of seven spare keyboards, you are entitled to call yourself an "experienced user." No one will know you're talking about computers, but they'll definitely accept the "experienced" part. Sadly, I made a grievious error and about three days ago I took eleven of the %@$#! things to an e-recycler, and most of the keys on all of them worked (well, sort of). I'm beginning to (sniff) miss them already. I've also dumped at least 8 CRT monitors to the same recycler in the past few months, but none of them worked at all. (One was the old 9" yellow screen monocolor that came with my first AT computer, but it would have been dumped years ago if it hadn't hidden behind a couple of others and we forgot it was there.) You use "liquid paper" or "whyte out" - the white "correction fluid" you used to use to correct the typos when you actually used a typewriter. Once it dries thoroughly it stays on almost anything reasonably well. I still use it to mark all my wall warts so I know which one goes with what device, and it's great for highlighting those black-on-black connector labels on the back of the TV/VCR/DVD things so that you can tell who's what. Just paint the high spots, or put a smear on and then wipe it off of what sticks up. If you want something even better, the acrylic latex art paint from the local hobby shop is also very durable (once dry) on most things, and you can get it in different colors and get a good tiny brush to put it on with. A $2 tube should last you a decade or two if you keep the cap on between uses. John |

I suspect he probably pulled the springs out, but they made a very effective "rattle" somehwat akin to those fancy Spanish(?) things a little like a tambourine with no skin on 'em. Now I don't know just what your definition of "perverted acts on a keyboard" might encompass; but someone bidding on your loved one might have something of the sort in mind. Be aware that "rising to the top" in music/performance often demands that the performer observe an ethic somewhat outside the norm; and due allowance should be made in considering what actions and activities a bidder might have in mind. It might be just the thing your old lovely would want to do. John |

From: JohnInKansas Date: 03 Feb 09 - 11:08 PM Well Boberz, the guy who played the keyboard comes in from Colorado, and I'll grant you that I saw a lot more of that wild weed there a few years back than seems to be growing around my neighborhood. An uncle did try growin' some of it back when it was being pushed by the government as a replacement for other stuff they used to make ropes for the wartime navy. So far as I know it never did really catch on as a cash crop here. He claimed that the crop failed 'cause the stuff just wasn't suitable for the climate here, but most of us pretty well knew that just about every crop - of every kind - that he ever planted pretty much failed. (I could put in a comment about the crop of kids - my cuzzins - he more or less raised on that old rocky-bottom-alkali-flat farm, but I guess that's probably not necessary.) John |
