So the soft southerners are crying again and getting their facts wrong about Scotland and the north of England, they think that Manchester is in the north but it really in the South if you live in Scotland |

Most of us down here aren't pissed off with the weather but with the fact that the people who're supposed to keep the roads and rails open aren't doing the job. We'd get out and get to work if there was any transport (actually I made it today) but most of us have commutes of more than 30 miles and I know a few people who travel more than 100 miles each way. Perhaps we could all move to the true North but then you'd be whingeing about us taking all your jobs and putting house prices up. Oops, I forgot we're doing that anyway! |

Then you jump in about with "Manchester is in the north but it really in the South if you live in Scotland". I think even people abroad know that, but the point is no one has actually said different. You're just making strawmen here and accusing people of saying things that haven't actually been said! If you want to vent your hate about "Westminster" then fair enough (London-centrism is a bugbear of mine too), but don't try and do it through a strawman argument over a bit of snow. |

Good luck with the SNP - I'm totally in favour of home rule for Scotland and Wales, a United Ireland and England - in the absence of a constructive way forward the English could always thrash themselves with birch twigs until everyone decides they've atoned for their sins to everyone else's satisfaction. I have a friend who works in the parks department of a small town in Scotland where he is foreman. The men under him call him the 'English C*nt' and refuse to do anything he says, on one occasion telling him to "F*uck off back to Manchester". The management is actually turning a blind eye to this, and he's now looking for another job. Statements like Goatfell's above reinforce the view this might be a majority view north of the border. Luckily the Scots I know personally are great people. Puts me off going to Aberdeen though. |

It is very easy to do in such a forum as this because you can't look anyone in the eye while you are trying to communicate. It's been my experience that many insults are generated in the person's own mind when they infer something that was not implied. Most of the people on this forum have above average IQs, and if they want to insult someone, they can do it and the recipient knows it without any question. |
