I was gonna jump in the jet and pop down to Rio, but Mum needed some milk and bread so I went to Sobeys instead. Gonna miss New Orleans on the way back from Rio, too. Wanted to say HI to Poppa Gator, maybe check out the beads.

Pancakes with lemon and sugar here. Only eat them once a year but after that the rest of lent goes by unregarded although I will happily mark the end with the eating of disgustingly large amounts of chocolate.

Here in the Detroit area, it's Paczki Day. They were only an Eastern European treat when I was a kid. They'd bring a big trayful to each classroom. Nowadays everybody has 'em, even the big grocery stores. As far as I'm concerned, the only acceptable filling is raspberry.

Mmm pączki, that brings back memories of my granny who made the best in the world. Raspberry was the usual filling and traditional rose petal jam was an occasional alternative. Wish I was chomping down on one right now with my morning coffee.

I've given up doing so much stuff over the years that I have accumulated a Lent surplus. I figure quitting drinking is worth ten Lents, quitting smoking is worth another ten, and quitting using mind-altering substances is another ten. So, according to my calculations, I have eleven years to go before I need to worry about it. I'm paid ahead until 2020.

I gave up sermons for Lent one year... I went into the back room and played with the children instead.

I learned an awful lot there, more than I ever did from any sermon.

I learned I should never contemplate a job in childcare or education!

This year I'm going to try and cut down on the amount of cola I drink... not a good day so far.

I had me a lemon filled paczki for breakfast, and a raspberry filled one for the end of the day. If I had to have just one kind, I would fight maire-aine for the raspberry. But I can enjoy any of several fillings.
