A source**
on Britain's Got Talent told the Daily Mail***: "This is one of many requests we have had to play her [Miss Boyle], for movie deals and for stories of her life.

"All these people are coming out and want to be associated with her. She is the biggest thing in the world."

A spokesman for Miss Boyle said she was unwilling to comment.

Miss Zeta-Jones's publicist in the US said there were currently no plans for her to play Miss Boyle.

** usually a publicist person - Max Clifford is currently representing Simon Cowell - of course

*** nuff said :)

hmmm there's an awful lot of
'it has been reported'
'apparently asked about the film rights'
' is also believed to have expressed an interest in a similar project.' etc.....
in that article.

Clearly whoever wrote the headline didn't read the story.

That's nothing new.

The story doesn't say Zeta-Jones asked to play Boyle. But if she's a savvy businesswoman looking for a story to buy the rights to for developing a film later, then she's on the right track. The only disconnects here SEEM to be that all Zeta-Jones can do is work in front of the camera. Or that Susan Boyle should stay on CDs and radio because of her looks.

From the article she wants the right, but under the photo and the headline she wants to play her ... which one is it don't know

all nonsense trying to cash in on the lady's popularity. I am routing for Boyle so is everyone else and yes she can sing. However if she were 21 and had the looks of a model no one would say anything except yea she has a good voice ... However since that isn't the case everyone want to associate with her because of the recent fame.   All very sad actually.

'all Zeta-Jones can do is work in front of the camera' ?

'Zeta Jones' singing was so good in the film that producers reportedly dropped the idea of getting Janet Jackson to record the end version of All That Jazz and used hers instead.

"Actress Claire Sweeney, who has starred in the West End version of the musical, (Chicago) had a sneak preview of the film ahead of Sunday's screening.

She said: "I thought it was amazing. It was very, very good, really original.

"I think a lot of people will be surprised at Catherine's ability - she's truly great.

"She's very sensual, very sexy, very strong, just a brilliant singer and dancer." '

I thought this was a spoof until I saw the link. Now it just sounds bizzare. Just think of all the exciting scenes of Ms. Boyle sitting at home with her cat. As an optional approach, they could let Paris Hilton play Ms. Boyle, but dub in Zeta Jones's voice for the singing. Of course to maintain credibilty they would have to put fake eyebrows on Paris.

Emma, you misunderstood. The point is she's smart enough to do more than just act and sing. She can also do whatever she wants on the production end of things as well. Don't bracket (limit) either woman by their looks or make assumptions about their intelligence.

The cutline (caption) and headline were probably written by an editor, not the person who wrote the article. This is fairly standard in newspaper settings. The editor writes some of that stuff. So it still makes perfect sense that the headline and cutline don't actually agree with the article. The editor was being careless or was torquing the story up a notch with the innacurate headline.

I think Maggie I posted that I had more respect for Susan Boyle's intelligence than the image deliberately and cruelly fostered by that wretched exploitative TV so called 'reality' programme. What I don't happen to share is that she is a world class singer also.

However I have no respect whatsoever for the publicists who hype up this kind of 'it has been reported' story

I think Susan will get a last laugh out of all of this--she may not meet the standards of all Mudcat listeners, but an awful lot of people like the sound of her voice and are charmed by her story. That will sell CDs.

Of course the 'story' will sell CDs - that is the whole point of this manipulated hype and cynically engineered 'phenomena' - the proceeds however will mostly go to Syco, Simon Cowell's record company.

Under the terms of a contract signed by all the 12 final contestants of the X Factor series last year, the winner gets an advance of only £150,000 and is promised a 'modest percentage' of earnings from future record sales and tours.

When American Idol hit the TV all the contestants were contracted to BMG Music Worldwide and 19 Entertainment when they sign on to the show. BMG has the right to exercise that option whenever they want.

Indeed, American Idol contestants signed an agreement with 19 Entertainment at the outset that limits them from taking outside offers.

In an interview Simon Cowell has stated frankly
"I own the recording rights -- the winners and other contestants sign with my label"

This is a 'take-it-or-leave-it' option!

Susan Boyle would be a shoe in to play Julia Childs in "Cooking and Espionage" the life story of Julia Childs.

people generally don't know she was a spy.

What is really sad about the music anymore is we only see the young and the beautiful. Many people today are conditioned to think that only a fantasy young girls cowboy or young man's supermodel are the only ones who have talent. That is what makes Susan Boyle so popular because she breaks that mold. People forget that in the past it was pretty much if a person had the goods, that is what mattered most. Take a look at Momma Cass ... who could belt out a song better but she was not a beauty queen just a young lady that had amazing talent and the same with the men.

What bothers me most is Susan should be the same as everyone with her class of talent. The media is hyping this as she is some kind of fluke or some kind of oddity when in reality talent comes in all sizes ages, shapes and colors. However, unless the standard of skinny supermodel or young cowboy is not met, most don't get a shot today.

We route for Susan because of her talent but also because it is a throwback to the days when talent was enough and looks were just looks. That is rare today since looks is pretty much everything and the talent well if you are hot looking they will make up for the lack of talent in the studio ..

my take anyway

One of the you tube comments under Susan Boyle singing Cry Me A River that caught my eye was a young man who said, Susan woke me up - he's going to quit dating women just based on their looks.

Don, Julia Child was 6'2" tall. Susan is a little dab of a woman by comparison.

What Julia Child had that Susan probably doesn't, in addition to about 12 inches, is a nifty sonnet written for her 49th birthday by her husband:

O Julia, Julia, cook and nifty wench,
Whos unsurpassed quenelles and hot souffles,
Whose English, Norse and German, and whose French,
Are all beyond my piteous powers to praise --
Whose sweetly-rounded bottom and whose legs,
Whose gracious face, whose nature temperate,
Are only equalled by her scrambled eggs:
Accept from me, your ever-loving mate,
this acclamation shaped in fourteen lines
Whose inner truth belies its outer sight;
For never were there foods, nor were there wines,
Whose flavor equals yours for sheer delight.
O luscious dish! O gustatory pleasure!
You satisfy my taste-buds beyond measure.

Maybe Catherine would buy up the rights to this story also! I think it would be an interesting film! :)

Too late it's been done, minus Catherine Zeta Jones.

Release date in August, 2009. Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci? Meryl, at 5'6", is missing 8" herself. They must be putting her on stilts for this film. I think they put Glenn Close in special shoes when she played "Sarah Plain and Tall."

Several of the actors in Lord of the Rings were shrunk digitally, so why not reverse the process and give Meryl her 8 inches in height?

It might be easier to add and shrink when everything else is more or less cgi. Shrinking in the context of dark riders and dragons might be easier than growing in the context of a kitchen. :)

I can't find the details of the contracts for the Britains Got Talent contestants but the contract for those taking part in Cowell's other show, British television's music talent show contested by aspiring pop singers drawn from public auditions The X Factor, has been leaked much to Cowell's embaressment.

As part of the deal, the acts have to agree NEVER to criticise the music boss!

In fact the contract, which runs for 80 pages, also reportedly states that the rules are enforceable anywhere "in the world and solar system" and that artists may not be critical of the company, "including its personnel and, in particular, Simon Cowell".
Breaking this clause imposes quite staggering financial penalties

One finalist is quoted as saying.
"After being kicked off, you're under contract to Cowell's label even if they've no interest in you. Other record labels won't touch you until the deal is over, and then interest may have waned,"

Despite 'heartwarming' articles planted in the press by the programmes publicists that that the winner will receive a £1 million recording contract, this is not guaranteed and the legal document shows that the victor MAY only receive £1 million after at least four albums.

Instead, they will get an advance of £150,000 to pay their expenses for their first CD

In return the winning act makes 15% from single and album sales, along with 7.5% of profits from a tour and 15% of merchandise sales.
