Subject: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: kendall Date: 23 Jun 09 - 09:19 AM Been having some crazy stuff happening lately. Weight loss, no appetite, very low energy. For the past two days I have not taken any blood pressure pills and it is normal. 120/74. Before I quit them it was 110/55. My glucose is normal but my pulse is a bit rapid, 107 at rest. .My doctor just ordered blood culture work and urine analysis. Any ideas? |
Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: Wesley S Date: 23 Jun 09 - 09:24 AM I'm suprised your glucose is normal. It sounds like what I had just before I found out I was diabetic. I'm not a doctor but I played one on the stage once. |
Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: SINSULL Date: 23 Jun 09 - 09:52 AM Given the events of the past few months, Captain, I would not rule out depression. You have had several bad shocks and setbacks. The symptoms fit. Are you sleeping more than normal? Lost interest in almost everything? Food taste bad or is tasteless? If it is depression, it may pass. You can help yourself with exercise - a natural endorphine. St John's Wort may help but be careful. Clinical depression does not just go away. Talk to your own doctor. JimmyT is the only doctor I know of on Mudcat and he supports himself with a line of thongs. |

Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: wysiwyg Date: 23 Jun 09 - 11:03 AM The time to see the doc is when a change happens suddenly. It may or may not signal an emergency, but sudden onset is ALWAYS something to check out ASAP because sometimes sudden onset gives an opportunity to nip a real bad thing in the bud. It might be a natural reaction to the overwhelming stress of the last few months on top of the chronic stress of the last several years. A wise wife's instincts should always be followed, perhaps even obeyed. TAKE CARE, ~Susan |

Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: kendall Date: 23 Jun 09 - 11:14 AM I've been depressed for years but it never knocked me down like this has. Right now I'm looking forward to a dish of Jello. How crazy is that? |
Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: Ebbie Date: 23 Jun 09 - 11:20 AM Simplify, Kendall. Simplify. (You can't get much simpler than Jello!) |
Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: wysiwyg Date: 23 Jun 09 - 11:44 AM Actually a food craving is a very good thing. We are usually taught to fight them, but it's better to follow it and see what your body is actually telling you it needs. If you satisfy a rational craving for something you actually need, you crave less instead of more. Jello for instance has stuff that is good for your bones. Have some and see what flavor lingers as the best part of it. The thing you need may be that thing. Then you can find out how to get that thing without Jello, within your overall nutrition plan. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: Morticia Date: 23 Jun 09 - 12:01 PM I wonder where Marc Cohen is these days? Jimmy is a dentist isn't he? I too suspect you have just been through more than enough and your body is having a bit of a rebel. |
Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: SINSULL Date: 23 Jun 09 - 12:05 PM My god! He's pregnant! Moody. Tired. Off his feed. Craving Jell-o. It all adds up. Sorry, Kendall. Until the blood tests come back, I am sticking with depression. But have they tested you for Lyme's Disease? Jacqui had similar symptoms before she was diagnosed. |
Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: curmudgeon Date: 23 Jun 09 - 12:19 PM Please don't tell us that you've lost your taste for Single Malts. |
Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: Rapparee Date: 23 Jun 09 - 12:35 PM I got with the pregnancy idea. Or maybe simple hysteria. Or, God forbid!, premature single malt withdrawal. But get checked out. You can confide in your doctor about the pregnancy, if that's what it is. And a hysterectomy is supposed to cure hysteria. I'm not a doctor, but I do have a Master's Degree...in Science! |
Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: wysiwyg Date: 23 Jun 09 - 12:53 PM Premature single malt withdrawal-- is that how you tried to prevent pregnancy!?!? ~S~ |

Kendall, leave off with the docs as much as possible. They will drive ya crazy and cause depression with their endless speculations about what could go wrong next. They don't know and, if they're honest, they will tell you so. Then you have to listen to your bod, darlin'...I can say this after two months of endless bullshit with docs.:-) luvyakat |
Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: kendall Date: 23 Jun 09 - 01:35 PM Curmudgeon, I have no desire for whiskey of any kind. Maybe I should worry. |
Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: Wesley S Date: 23 Jun 09 - 01:36 PM Art - I'm feeling just fine but I plan to follow your orders anyway. Thanks. But maybe I should wait until I get home from work. |
Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: gnu Date: 23 Jun 09 - 01:39 PM The doc is on the case. Go with the flow and TRY to be mellow. Jello? Only if it's lobstah flavahhh. BTW, I just ate all I could of a three pounder (I don't eat the body) and it's the first time I have ever had one that size that wasn't just right. Now, it was cooked and iced last night and I have never had one that size that wasn't still warm... what's your view on the proper size fer good tasting, tender lobster, K? |

Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: SINSULL Date: 23 Jun 09 - 02:24 PM Craves Jell-O and no single malt...if this keeps up I will have to find a new friend. Honest Captain. A long walk on the beach with that silly dog of yours or an hour on the exercise bike and the endorphines will kick in. Plus you'll sleep - nothing like sleep to forget about what ails you. |

Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: kendall Date: 23 Jun 09 - 02:42 PM I just got the results of a water test, and it said the well water failed the coliform bacteria test. That was my first suspicion. What next? |
Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: SINSULL Date: 23 Jun 09 - 02:44 PM Diarrhea, I think. |
Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: SINSULL Date: 23 Jun 09 - 02:48 PM Depends on what type of coliform bacteria is found. Most are harmless but indicate possible contamination. |

Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: Bobert Date: 23 Jun 09 - 03:22 PM Well, I got a sure fire cure to take all that stuff off yer mind, Cap[t'n and its easy and doesn't involve drugs of any kind... You really don't need much but you will need an anvel, a ballpeen hammer and yer private parts... If you got all this stuff and want the rest of the cure, PM me and I'll walk ya; thru it... BTW, it is guarenteed to take whateveer is bothering ya' off yer mind for a long, long time... Kinda time released cure... But that ain't the only cure I have... Just the fastest... Seriously, Capt'n, I ain't no doctor but seein' as if everything seems purdy normal, other than the stresses you have been under, I'd lean toward depression, also... Whoever said exercise hit the nail on the head... Exercise is the best cure out there... No, bending yer arm to get another drink of Scotch ain't exercise... I'm talkin' walkin'... Brisk as you feel comfortable... 1/2 hour of cardiovascualr does the trick... Problem is that it's gonna take a week or two of 1/2 cardio before the endorphins get buzy and make ya' feel better... Oh, BTW, when they get going, everything is gonna get going... Get my drift??? Bobert |

Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: kendall Date: 23 Jun 09 - 03:54 PM I guess running my mouth and jumping to conclusions is not sufficient exercise? I was on the TODAY show in 1976, and Jim Hart asked me to tell a Maine story. Of course, he had to hear it first, so I told him this one: A farmer noticed that his well water was tasting funny, so he sent a sample of it to the lab for testing. As soon as they got the results they sent an engineer down to do a safety exam. He noticed that the well was too close to the cess pool, so he told the man that he had to either stop using the well or the cess poll. He figured he could get by without the cess pool so they stopped using it, and 3 days later the well went dry. No, he wouldn't let me tell that on national TV |
Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: Rapparee Date: 23 Jun 09 - 04:29 PM Well, I'm sure you heard the one about the fella who saw his friend reaching around in the outhouse, trying to bring something up from down below. "What are you trying to do?" asked the first fella. "Dropped my jacket down there," was the answer. First fella said, "It was an old, torn up jacket. Why not just let it go?" "I don't care so much for the jacket," his friend said, "but I had a good ham sandwich in the pocket." |

Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: Rapparee Date: 23 Jun 09 - 05:56 PM Don't go to the hospital, Kendall. They make you associate with sick people, stick you with needles, feed you bad food, withhold good drink, wake you up at ungodly hours, and then charge you a bunch for it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: Ebbie Date: 23 Jun 09 - 07:39 PM What gnu said, Kendall. You know, you're doing an awful lot of prepaying this year. After all this is sorted out you're going to have a good many problem-free years. |
Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: kendall Date: 23 Jun 09 - 08:01 PM She told me that if I get worse in the night to go to the ER. If I don't get worse, I stay put. |

Subject: RE: BS: Is there a Doctor in the forum? From: Dorothy Parshall Date: 23 Jun 09 - 08:54 PM Nice to know it is not "clinical depression"! With due respect to Amos, a close friend who had a state of the art/best money could buy water filtration/purification system - still got heart fibrillation. Went to distilled water and has had no problem - over five years now. A distiller costs under $150 and ensures safe water. Of course, this means one does not get minerals in one's water. However, I tried using the water from rinsing my still on the house plants and they turned yellow. So much for the minerals. Take supplements. I have other ideas but you are a mainstream medicine person. I am not. So just make sure they take good care of you. Jacqui will!! |
