Subject: BS: Working on Christmas From: wysiwyg Date: 05 Dec 09 - 02:44 PM If you have worked or will work Christmas-- 1. what do you love about doing that, 2. what have been some of the neat things that have happened that probably would not have, otherwise? 3. Please share that first, and then share what the work was/is. I'll start. 1. I love the individuals (I'm thinking of a doen specific ones right now) I have already met this season who exemplify rural-small town life, humanity, and Grace at their bests. 2. I would not have known that Owego, NY is a great day-off place to go on the way to this year's "thanks for working Christmas" gift project, which came to me this AM, which I KNOW will totally delight this year's recipients: Porn Sauce (sweet chili sauce) for some of the best waitresses who serve amazing and unique food they seldom get to eat and that inspires their own dorm cooking! 3. Funerals, mostly, this season, in a busy parish! OK-- next? ~Susan |

Subject: RE: BS: Working on Christmas From: catspaw49 Date: 05 Dec 09 - 03:01 PM Karen works this Christmas and its GREAT!!! Why? Well, we have a traditional family thing on CHristmas Eve with Connie and Wayne et all at their place in Columbus. THEN.....Karen goes to work just like normal (She works night shift) and gets paid BIG BUCKS HOLIDAY pay. We'll stay at Connie's and Karen will join us for a big Christmas Day breakfast when she gets off at 7 AM. Then we'll all go our different ways with us going home and sharing gifts at home as well. Karen will go to bed (as usual) and the be off til Monday night!!! And the schedule is the same for New Years as well! Sorry, but we really can use the OT Holiday pay and especially when it involves no real change in her schedule and not missing any family time and Christmas traditions.....and she gets TWO long weekends to boot! Spaw (who loves to spend time with Karen more than anything else on earth) |

Subject: RE: BS: Working on Christmas From: wysiwyg Date: 05 Dec 09 - 04:02 PM Don't see nuffin there to be sorry about. And I see all that in the faces of the nurses who we see, working, here. Hm..... here goes-- I reckon you'd see her more if you became the hospital chaplain, Pat. :~) Don't reckon you need any more training, neither. One of the keys character traits we look for when discerning who ougghta be ordained is exactly that sense of humor you manifest so well. Not kidding! I just wish they wouldn't try so hard to hide it-- makes it hell to find it! ~Susan |

Subject: RE: BS: Working on Christmas From: Bill D Date: 05 Dec 09 - 05:03 PM When I was in college, I used to work Christmas eve in grocery stores...but we closed early. It was a VERY busy day, but people were often pleasant as they planned holiday meals. When I was VERY young, (12-14)...I delivered newspapers every day of the year. Paper boys in a small city were known personally by customers, and I often got tips & cookies. |

Subject: RE: BS: Working on Christmas From: GUEST,beardedbruce Date: 24 Dec 09 - 05:33 PM Will be working tomorrow. Gives the other people a chance to be with their kids ( tonight and tomorrow). I like the fact it's easy to get a parking space. |

Subject: RE: BS: Working on Christmas From: John on the Sunset Coast Date: 25 Dec 09 - 06:08 PM The clerks at the local supermarket are making $58.50/hr for giving up their holiday. For an eight hour shift that's $5 less than my monthly salary on my first job out of college in 1963. My, times do change! |
