I wonder where I got the idea that the inventor of the Chronometer was a Scot?
Anyway, they gave us raincoats and pneumatic tires. (Tyres) Dunlop.

Oh, they have to be born in the province...that's a different thing. Ask Stompin Tom where he is from , and I'd bet he would say PEI.

Stompin' Tom was born in NB tho he was raised in PEI... I was just picking folks who are known outside the borders...and their province of origin... and trying to keep it down to 3... it's tough esp. when getting to NS... there are so many from Ont. and Kebek , Lightfoot , Morrisette, Jim Carey, Akroyd, Lorne Michaels .. on and on and on..

IMO,
the best part of any nation is its contribution to the arts, and Canada excels irregardless of government patronage or the lack thereof...

okay, Nunavit and Northwest Territories:

Susan Aglukark
Lucy Idleout
Tamarack Jack

He had quit smoking but 9/11 shook him up so bad he went back to smoking and died of lung cancer in 2005.

Rapaire,
I did not know you has a soft spot for famous future Canadian greats.

Well, it may grate on you, but, wemay as well get a good head start at listing them the three it may take awhile to deduce it from the many. Since   the world will end in 2012 (f' sure) .... your canidate is out.

R. Douglas Lake (she'll be Prime Minister in 3101)
Strong Rock (first human to set foot in what would become Canada)

(Doesn't it seem a bit pretentious to list the "Top 3 of all Time" of anything? We haven't finished "All Time" yet, unless, well, I have been in places in Canada where time seems to stop....)

Bankley,

From Nova Scotia I would suggest
Joseph Howe
Cyrus Eaton
Chief Membertou

Or, alternatively
Alexander Graham Bell (though he is shared)
Donald Sutherland
Wilf Carter

As to sports. Sydney Crosby

I would not rule out Anne Murray...but according to the Olympics ads, Dartmouth's Sara MacLaughlin seems to now be from BC....figure that one out?

Here are some others

http://www.twrsoft.com/trivia/hist01.htm

As to PEI, I would not rule out Stomp'in Tom Connore....now who can be more Canadian then Tom?

Someone once said to me that Rocket Richard was a hero in Quebec........but that Gretsky and Bobby Orr were just seen as great hockey players in Canada.

There was "Rocket Richard", "Pocket Richard", and a brother who did not like hockey at all....naqmed...."Fockit Richard":)

Tecumseh was an Native American.

I've read "Grapes", and it, or they, has nothing to do with sour!

"Okay...how about Bobby Orr? Rocket Richard? Gordie Howe?" Even in the right order!

No mention of Farley Mowat! I read somewhere that he said "Goddammit" and "You little bastard" to his two Lab pups so often, that they became their names!

Would have liked the opportunity to have had a few jugs with Sir John A! "I get sick....not because of drink(but because)I am forced to listen to the ranting of my honourable opponent".

Pierre Trudeau. Somewhere between Leona and Barbara!
