John Joseph is barking - but in a good way.

The pub would of course rather sell its expensive meals in stead of cheap bacon and egg rolls, but I reckon it could sell a monster English breakfast - fried bread, plum tomato, mushrooms, egg, bacon, sausage for a fiver, profitably, like Moor and Coast. Add a glass of Resolve for hangover cure and a glug of gavischon for indigestion and a person could be ready to start drinking again... But it would then stop the breakfasts at say 11 am to let it make profit on lunches suppers and dinners.

Being who I am I was less taken with Moveable Feast, but Border Crossing were good (guitar sound a bit twangy) and I was very impressed with the new Slow Gin. I didn't know Holly could sing as well, and she slays thousands with her squeeze-boxes. Capella and Alchemy were brilliant as always. That guitar of Mike Nicholson's sings a whole harmony arrangement all by itself!

Mumblin Len mentioned that the pub in Ash did great business on BBQ at their mini folk/ale fest in August last year.

BBQ breakers sounds great. Simple sausage on a roll (pig in the blanket - so apt) not expensive to purchase, not difficult to prepare in bulk and will sell from 8 am throughout the day. It may be that at a pub, there needs to be someone specifically trained to man big BBQ, especially with all the kiddies running about.

But to the landlady at the Kentish Horse, hats off to her and her chef and wait staff. Bet they are utterly knackered.

Well, as met-check predicted it bucketed Sun 1 am to 4 am, and started again at 3 pm. Fortunately I had so carefully managed successfully to extract the van at about 1 pm (having the wrong towcar with me - automatic and turbo and no limited slip diff a bad combination).

Rain has followed me home and is impeding unpacking, but I am levelled and 'fridge on. Worried about 'fridge, it was not being efficient at Markbeech so I may need to take it out turn it upside down and shake it (honestly, it's a known trick) which is a lot cheaper than a new 4213S - they now retail for over £600! The non-return valve that I think was the cause of my lack of hot water has been ordered (in fact two ordered) on ebay so should be in by Knockers.

Piggy is (or has ever since I knew it been) a lovely event. The music was very mid-atlantic this year (but there again they had the Young Coppers last year or was it the year before) and I could have done with more English folk but there was a nice turnout of English tunes in the Sat night session in the pub and some good massed harmonies in the marquee later (with wine and cheese party). Cheddar-lovers, the cheddar was Ivy's Reserve.

By Sunday morning sheets of bogroll were changing hands for huge sums, and indeed I donated two rolls, so a festival stock of bogroll and a bog duty officer would be an enhancement.

I reckon the pub could make itself a nice littl earner with barbecued breakfasts if it could get staff to do them from say 8 am until opening time when the expensive food comes on, and people were on Sunday queuing for an hour to order food and then the food orders closed bang on time leaving many disappointed.

Wow!... All I can say really. We were double virgins. Virgin to caravanning and virgin to Pig's Ear Folk Ale Festival. I feel so sullied now... and I like it.

Thanks to John Barden for helping us get the van parked. Thanks to Richard Bridge for helping us get inside fiddly bits sorted even before he got his own van sorted.

Happy birthday to Dilligaffxx. Hugs to all my folk friends old and new.    Must figure out how to make more time or clone myself, so I can do more musicing and more nattering. See many of you next Sunday.

TDL... I will have a look for Mauritania. Maybe a workshop at Knockers?

p.s. Listened to the Whole Hog cd on the way home.... Now I know what I want for Christmas... more Pig's Ear cds.

My post got eaten.

VT - use your bricks to kick-start your fridge. I will bring as many as I can fit into my little freezer.

JB - I have Krackawheat and cheeses and Rioja

Dilligaf and KtC - I have some funny packet Indian things for Sat.

I will squeeze in a little upright BBQ, and see if I can liberate some blocks off the building site next door.

There is an isolator valve for the gas fire in the bottom of the wardrobe.

There should be a HUGE spark from that external piezo igniter I fitted. Depress gas valve for a minute. Let go. Go away and come back in five minutes. Then put gas valve in "light" position, and repeatedly click the igniter. Should be up in seconds. IE treat it like the fridge.

If all else fails, make sure the safe-tea-elf is not looking, loosen front, unscrew the sight glass, and put LONG match or taper down the hole and depress gas valve. Mind eyebrows. When well alight, replace sight glass and re-fasten front - but it was doing that that made me change the igniter for a modern one, and after that it was nearly first time every time.

Freeze as many freezer blocks as you can tonight and put them in your fridge tomorrow. It will take a long tow to get it down to temp otherwise - it draws 8 amps or more and the wiring is old and it's a long way from the alternator...

Off shopping now.

animal carcasses? how do we keep off the leopards?

I am bringing some frying steak because I fancy some beef, but it needn't be fancy. That trout sounds yummy.

We are bringing the usual load of veg to skewer and 2 different marinades.

Bought 2 more of the little toss away bbq grills. But we need bricks to rest them on.

As you can guess.. we decided to make our way there tomorrow. Too much to do tonight re packing and food prep.

"we are not bringing a lot of food that needs cooling."

I'm just thinking about umm, rib-eye steaks and lamb loin chops and duck breast and err stuff.. I may have said in a PM, I turn very bloody when camping these days! Great hunks of bloody and burned meat on bbq... yummy! TSO may need to avert his eyes if we drag back a load of dead animal carcasses from the local farm shop ;-)

Our freezer at home is titchy witchy, and unfortunately half of it's just been filled up with a bloody great whole frozen trout... (thinks: 'hmm maybe I should bring that to bbq') but I have managed to pack in a few bottles of water, which will help to keep contents of cool bag cool.

In my day we used to camp while carrying tent and everything else too on our backs. Not done much of that since I've been an asthmatic fatso though! I don't have a van and can't see us going that route, but hope to get one of those nice spacious Bell Tents used by the Scouts by next Summer. Uber heavy & bulky to pack because they're canvas, but they're great things to camp in (apart from all the tragic trendy middle-class 'glamping' poo going on at the mo') 'cos they're cool when it's hot, warm when it's cold, have loadsa space inside and you can stand up. You can even put a wee wood burner inside depending on how adventurous you are..

our fridge won't be cold before we start towing it. We are freezing all(4) our blocks and bringing them in the cool box. Start the fridge (gas) as soon as we are on site, provided there is enough gas in the bottle we have.

You are welcome to use our cool box and fridge as we are not bringing a lot of food that needs cooling. Oh I will be bringing a bag of ice cubes because I can't survive without ice for the entire weekend. That's my favourite food.

Just had van serviced.... passed flying colours. Man said it was in remarkably good nick. Someone has been looking after it very well. (big grin). a whisper of damp at the bed end, probably there from before the damage was repaired. A dehumidifier or a couple of hot days with windows open will sort that. He could not get the heater to light, but I am hoping RB can help with that. We likely won;t need this weekend anyway, but would be good to know how if there is a trick.

So very tempted to just pack up and leave right now. We may just do that.

It's going to be a warm weekend. I was wondering if there might possibly be someplace campers without fridges can freeze those little chill blocks overnight - to use in cool bags.

Would the pub be able to provide that, or is that too much to ask? (I realise they're a pub and not a campsite as such).

I have lost your mobile number
so this is the plan.
I will be leaving home at 11.00 to arrive in Edenbridge has and when I get there but it will be before you get there so thats no concern.

What I will do is find the nearest pub from the station entrance and await your arrival.
When I looked up Edenbridge on the ticket machine at Eltham station yesterday to find the price of me ticket it showed THREE station Edenbridge. Edenbridge central and some other place in Edenbridge fore us to meet up successfully I have to known which station you are traveling to out the three stations so let me know.
"Three station ' what a palaver"
I have made some meat loaf for tomorrows nights evening meal with salad out the garden and Mediterranean vegetables and spuds from Ice land?.
