I'm loving it here in the UK, but heat-soak into the cabin in the turbo Volvo (turbochargers DO run hot) is making me think about getting the aircon fixed in that. Mostly I hate aircon, it makes it too damned cold.

Oh, and my gardener (who DOES have Raynauds syndrome, so is useless in the winter) nearly keeled over last week.

Problem aggravated by refusal to drink water from a beer-glass...

Another steamy one here in Pine Grove Holler... The three horses went thru an entire bath tub of water in two days... No, Capt'n... The horses don't come in the house... The bathtub us outside in the horse field...

But nevermind them horses...

Yeah, it was hot and felt extra good 'cause thr humidity was real high... Yezzir... My kinda weather... Other than gettin' stung my a danged ground hornet I purdy much enjoyed my day weeding and mulchin' and moving watering oscillators... I like it when yer clothes get so saturated with sweat that they are soaked... Then a little breeze comes along and it feels like air conditioning for a second and then it's back to heat and more heat!!!

So...

...put another log on the fire!!!

I ain't "havin' us on" 'er nuthin'... I love hot weather... The hotter the better... I love it steamy, too... I mean, drippin' steamy... I love playin' music when it's a hunnert and the humidity is so thick ya' gotta use a chainsaw to see the audience... I love the drippin' of sweat from my head down on the geetar... It's like art...

But I ain't crazy... It's all about mind over matter and if ya' don't mind then it don't matter... Heat??? Shit's been around for a long time... That's why they call it a solar system, ya'll... Mean, ya got this bigass fire ball, called the sun, in the middle of it... Ya'll want the sun to go away??? Start a petition drive... Maybe that 'ill work fir ya'z...

Meanwhile, I loves it hot and I loves it steamy...

Yezzir... Hot and steamy...

It got down to 23C around 5AM, with about 90RH. The sweet smell of my pine trees minded me of the times I used to spent up Kent County and I started to itch thinking of the billions of skeeters.

Hot and steamy is good in their places, but the weather? We aint used to that up here in God's country.

Well, anyway, if you like it the hotter the better you won't have a reason to mend your ways.

Still plenty hot enough for me; my browser says it's only 86 in town. I dunno about that; we don't have a reliable outdoor 'mometer right now. My wife just went out for a few minutes to pick up small branches blown down Thursday, as I said I planned to mow lawn as soon as I paid a couple of bills. She came in soaked in sweat and told me to mow later after it cools down some.

35C, 42 Humidex. Hot enough for me. Add in the overweight and out of shape factors and I would be dead without AC.

I know it's hotter elsewhere... just glad I am not there.

Spent most of it weedin' and mulching the vegetable garden... Yezzir... Good thing to do on a steamy day... I love it when everything is drippin' wet from sweat... I mean, from yer sock to yer ball cap and everything in bewteen... My kinda day and that's what we got...

The last couple days, it's been right about 100o here at 2,300 feet elevation in the Sierra Nevada Foothills. Christina and I took a bit of a hike on the Tahoe Rim Trail yesterday, at 8,100 feet. It was downright chilly in places, and absolutely beautiful - lots of wildflowers, and quite a bit of snow. Skeeters were bad in places, though. Still, it's very nice to be able to be able to escape 100o heat and drive to snow in an hour.

My 95-yr-old mother-in-law lives with us, and she really suffers in this heat. We have to watch carefully so she doesn't get overheated.

You can have the rest of my hot days, Q. I am tired of this summer. Of course, I have a feeling this winter will be a long and nasty one after the great winters we have had for a couple of years. The moons are lined up that way... but it could go either way, just like this heat wave.

Ebbie... this is the male I feed in the winter. The pair has been staying here through the winters as she is injured and can't migrate south without her. I have great pics and videos of them. I also have one video of hundreds and hundreds of them in the trees and on the rooves in spring at dawn before they continue on. Since the pair has being staying all winter, this is where they they stop. Amazing to watch.

It is now 76 degrees in Jackson, Mississippi, and headed for a low of SIXTY-EIGHT tonight!!

Wow, that feels good. We have had a really unusually hot summer this year, like many places did, just relentless.

And to be fair, we had a delightful fall, winter, and spring where we kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, and drop it did, and hard. Let's hope summer lets go for good this next week.

Here in North Texas this summer registers as one of our hottest in record. It was in the top 10, possibly now in the top 5. Many weeks over 100o.

I left on Aug. 14 to drive my son to Tucson, so it was hot and dry the entire way, though we saw a lot of the monsoon-style rainstorms in the region and got a few drops here and there. Tucson was in the 104 - 106 range, and then I drove back had slightly cooler temps one day as I drove through overcast New Mexico and West Texas. But when I got home on Sunday, Aug 19 the weather was saving the worst here for the last. As I drove east I could feel the high heat aggravated by the humidity, making it feel like a pressure cooker, and then on Aug 20 it hit 108.

We've had most days over 100 since that day, but not so high, so comparatively speaking, 102 isn't nearly so bad as 108. This weekend it looks heavenly - I see a prediction of 90 and 92, making it seem just balmy. There is one night this weekend with a low of 60 - we haven't seen that since May.

Gnu- The local forecasters have backed off from expectations of heavy rain and moderately strong (30-45 mph) winds, so I'm not quite so much on edge. The high ozone levels and ongoing temperatures in the 98-102 F range all week make it very difficult to breathe, so that is most likely one cause for my discomfort.

As far as storms go, one good strong gust could land the whole camper in the foundation hole. The important question is, of course, "What will become of our hundreds of tomatoes and the just ripe melons? :D

The trailer is not lashed down? You'd better get the help on that right away. If you were close by, I could get some rebar and chain for you reeeal cheap.

Melons? What kinda melons?

Take care, maeve. You've picked enough possessions up out of that hole already without having the trailer take a header in also.

I tend to enjoy big storms, as long as they aren't so huge to be destructive.

We're fine, thanks. Melons are muskmelons (Halona) and Sugar Baby watermelon, gnu. And rebar & chain wouldn't begin to hold this camper if the right wind came along, but it's a kind thought.

I don't usually worry about storms; I feel wicked vulnerable now, living here with the gaping hellhole right next to us. All is well, and the garden is thriving to the point of jungle; full good things:

maeve... rebar and chain would do just fine. Matter of fact, if ya got any cedar down near the river, screw the rebar. Just some chain. Four turnbuckles would be nice but not really required.

If ya ain't got any cedar, well, any hardwood will do ya ten years or so.

A cousre, iffin ya only get 25mph outta the rest of the storms like ya got from Earl, no woirries.
