Thanks again!

Goodness gracious me, that was quick! I will pass the message on to all the other elfses, they will be pleased. Due to extra postal regulations hay for the reindeer and stuff like that I had been assured that delivery would take slightly longer this year.

Dear Bat Goddess,
I hope you don't mind but your present from me will be arriving just a short while after Christmas. Mrs Claus has persauded me to deliver it in person [ish] to you just after Christmas. One of my elves is coming your way and has offered to hand it to you personally. So, please don't be disappointed if your parcel is not with you for Christmas Day, it will be with you just as soon after as is possible.
Respectfully yours
Santa

Ah! Knowing it's coming is a relief ('tho I haven't had a lot of time to think about such things).

Shortly after Christmas is fine...just remember, I work on Sundays (but not on Saturdays or Wednesdays).

Hmmm...that means I'll throw some red and green tartan tarps over everything except Tom, the tree and the cats, see that there's a chair without a pile of books and papers, and make space for single malt and Russian tea cakes and Berlinerkranzer.

Thank you Santa. You may need to make a watery landing. We're not flooded out yet but it's a long way from a sunburnt country here just now. Makes a nice change from drought. Your co-pilot will be treated well, senior moments are common place in out household.
Hmmm so you have a "Ye Olde Poste Office". Sounds like Ye Olde England. Maybe not though. Also bilzzards are happening here in Aus too this year. Have to be patient.
Looking forward to your sleigh arrival.

Near disaster averted, you'll be relieved to hear. Two of the reindeer suffering from frostbitten antlers after doing some errands in Scotland, two more with hypothermia after visiting Yorkshire. You'd think they'd be used to cold weather, living here in the North Pole, but the UK seems to have beaten all records recently for shivering temperatures. But all is not lost - your package has been entrusted to the mail services, who seem confident of making a delivery (with any luck before December 25th), so you won't need to leave out refreshments in the traditional way but you should be assured of your goodies.
It goes without saying, my dear, that if your package should arrive well in advance of the right date you must wait patiently before opening it, or all might turn to dust and ashes as you watch.
Have a most merry and jolly Christmas tide!

Hi Art!

Sorry I haven't been here to torment you! Somehow it just hasn't happened. Maybe I'm just not creative enough. Do you suppose that's a clue in itself? I hope not....

Anyhow, rest assured that at least some of the time I might have spent thinking up clever clues has instead been spent acquiring, assembling, packing and mailing your PRESENT! It is now officially on its way, complete with a "Do not open till Christmas" sticker. You can ignore that if you like, of course, but that would be the easy way, not the Cowboy Way. In any case, I hope you'll like it!

Have a wonderful holiday!

Oh, I am a contented, though still singularly squirrely, Santa!

Severn's nuts have been gathered, wrapped, packed, and consigned to the tender ministrations of my local Village Postmistress. Soon (within a week or so) his parcel should have completed its perilous journey to Severn's neck of the woods.

Will he wait 'til Christmas to unwrap it, I wonder, or will the intriguing odours of the nuts pervade his being until he simply must open his parcel? No matter: Even if he does, he will still have a layer of wrapping paper and string to get through before the nature of his gift is revealed.

As to when he opens it, Severn may wait until his chosen Midwinter Holiday or not, as far as I'm concerned. I am a squirrel, after all, and we are not troubled by such details -- though I myself would certainly never open any gift sent to ME before its appointed time. One word of caution, though: If--

(As it turns out, one word of caution is rather less than adequate, isn't it? One SENTENCE of caution, then:) If Severn doesn't wish to know what manner of thing lurks inside the wrapping paper, he should not only not open the wrapped gift before his chosen Midwinter Holiday, but he should in addition not read the accompanying note until The Day has dawned.

Whenever and however he chooses to unwrap it, it is my fondest hope that he will enjoy his gift at least half as much as I have enjoyed being his own, his very own

Thank you, Santa! I will curb my instinct to rip open the packaging and wait for the right day to see what's inside.

Yours, somewhat impatiently,

Anne

You may open the package and then open the contents as a little starter.

Hoping Santa's not forgot me
Tomorrow is the end of term
And I am hoping for a germ
Of excitment, a knocking at my door
A postman with parcels galore
Because I've tried so very hard
To be good and never baaaaad
The rhymings gone a bit awry
Must be the wine and hot mince pie!
But enough of this banter
Here me cry "Where are you Santa?????????!"

My family is so spread out these days that it takes a long time to take care of all the Christmas giving and gifts. I won't use the term "scattershot" as it is one that squirrels tend not to like for some reason. Don't worry. 'Tisn't THAT season! But anyway, I always keep the SS present around until the first thing on the morning of Christmas itself to make sure I've something most special to open on the actual day. Then I'll get to daughters, sisters, relatives and friends as I can and just hang around with Molly The Cat until then. I know that slowly, but squirrelly the bounty shall arrive.

The house brownies Hash and McGhee who are guardians over my townshack usually are more on the lookout foe other wee folk to party with when they visit and don't pay much attention to the bushy-tailed folk, as there are are lots of local ones around all year, but they will make sure that special food gets laid out. Acornish Hen and maybe Hickory daquiris out on the dock to wash it down with. We'll see how it all goes down with them to see the local birds trying to steal THEIR food for a change. I bought an old VHS copy of Walt Disney's "Perri" to watch to learn more of your squirrelish ways.

It is snowing as we speak here in Laurel, but it shall most likely all be cleared by the time of your arrival.

Eagerly awaiting your arrival with a hot cup of Santee-Freeze to keep warm while you're staying a-nest-thetized in your nest until leaving time,

Severn

Sorry I've not written my favorite fluter
But I've had some problems with my damned computer.
"A germ of excitement", said your last polemic,
But it turns out that you'll get a whole epidemic!
I'd told you some time ago that I had mailed
Your gifts, but alas it seems that fates prevailed.
Mailing had to be delayed by aquisition
Of a special last-minute new-minted addition.
A follow-up to something quite dear to you
That contains your Santa in a cameo, too.
Huzzah! It is finally well on its way
And will reach you without too much further delay.
It will come to you in a plain box, nothing fancy
You can open it early, if you're feeling antsy.
Enjoy all in Spirit of Holiday Season
For Your Santa considers you well worth the teasin'.

O squirreldly-wise Santa,

I recieved a box in the mail today from a San Jose address that sounded like it was full of nuts when I shook it. I take it that this is indeed and in word the very Box (it had no handle, so it can't be a nut-case) that I'll get to Fanta-Santasize over until I wake up on Christmas morn. It just rattled when I shook it. I was half expecting to hear The Chipmunks doing the Nutcracker Suite or something else from the Squirreled Music section of the library, but I'm sure that

Bushy-Tailed Secret Santa,
You'll go down in Hickory....

...Or get a McAdda-Mia Award or something.
(Acorny joke, I know)

Or some of Mrs. Margerine's Filberts....

I'm just trying to think of Folk-related things that squirrels might do, besides maybe fill oaks.....

But thank you, and Merry Christmas
(unless you're Jewish and attend a Squirrely Temple)

I'll try not to overdo it with the nuts, as I tend to get Planter's Wart.....

Your pleading "In" Santee,
Severn
