Santa? Are you out there somewhere? I've been pretty good this year, and I believe in you...

Planning to leave out smoked salmon and blackberry brandy for you, Santa -- even better than last year. Please come!

Yours,
ClaireBear

Hi Dan

Hear you are one of those wonderful people who don't take any offence at what arrives. I've been grovelling around in the back of the workshops to see just what is lurking there - and come up with a 1950's treat for you.

I'll carry on looking. You never know......

Silly woman! I'm at the North Pole of course, where else would I be at this time of year?

I've found a good elf who should be able to make sure that your giftee gets to you in time of the Yuletide feast. That way we won't have to ask the jolly old Post Office to get involved.

Now then, earrings. Do you like outrageously dangly ones, comical ones or do you prefer them to be just a little bit more refined? I note your interest in science fiction and think that I have just the books for you. I enjoyed them and hope that you will.

Back to the hunt now for other interesting items to fill up the sack.

Ho ho ho........

I hope you are still being as good as possible? I must apologise for the lack of recent tease but the other elfses got to Santa's computer and messed it up......buggered it good and proper they did......but Mrs Claus (who is really the brains here) realised they still had their old computer in the cupboard. It's not as beautifully lovely as their new one but it works OK. Which is good.

Santa! My Santa! It is I who must serve you!

(In my cave, we have always believed that perpetual offerings of cookies and milk must get awfully monotonous for Santa. So, we try to compensate.)

Come Christmas Eve, I shall serve gleaming Copper River salmon in your honor, smoked lovingly over applewood and topped with a sauce of honey and blueberries. And of course, the blackberry brandy as a winter warmer. It shall be done!

Erm...really did have something to say....

Been perusing the catalogues, checking in all of the little shops and going through the odd dustbin - nothing seems quite right. Didn't someone suggest inflatable animals? Most of the ones I've found seem a bit...kinky...but I did run across a 20 foot long inflatable lobster. Ah well, something will come to me.

Thank you for your haunting tales
Where zombies stalk and a spirit wails
But now's the time we must start talking
Of Yuletide spirit and your Christmas stalking
Get rid of those library blues
From underpay and overdues
That haunt you in your "Reading Gaol"
And wear you out from your week's travail.
Sit back and let your mind succumb
To thoughts of presents yet to come
Of treasures great in their abundance
While hoping there is no redundance.
Your gifts have all been found, in fact,
Although they had to be repacked.
I hope their eventual host'll
Forgive delay from matters postal
But now they're set to go and I'm
Sure they'll arrive by Christmas time.
Ere Christmas Morn there will be there a
Box full of loot for flautist Sarah!

Of course you're at the North Pole (silly question) but surely you have a 'holiday home' elsewhere? Can you give me any clues?

Re. earrings, how nice of you to ask! I have a fairly large collection now, mostly pretty and not really outrageous. The majority (apart from all the moonstone) are plain silver dangly ones and I've been particularly looking for spirals recently.

Looking forward to hearing from you again and I'll try to keep the Christmas spirit flowing!

Dear Cats, and her Cats,

Even here at the North Pole the flooding of the Country of Cornwall has been News and my Elves are keeping track of the current situation. We are all hoping that you will not be needing water-wings at Christmas and that Cornwall will recover from this devastation quickly.

We assume that as neither Cats or Hens like water, you will be using your 'fluence to charm the weather, wind and wave to ease the situation as best you may. We are hoping that your lovely old cottage has escaped harm and that all your fellow creatures are in comfort?

Our thanks for your concern regarding our reindeer but they already have wings, albeit invisible ones.

Your gift will be something closer to your heart, methinks.

Just checking in to see how you are behaving, and the reports I have so far are encouraging. You have been kind to animals and small children, and are helping little old ladies to cross the road, all of which is good. But reports about a break-in at a chocolate shop, in which eye-witnesses reported a person running away who looked somewhat like your good self....not so sure about that. Before the sleigh is loaded do you have anything to say in your defence? Perhaps someone else was the guilty party, and you were trying to catch them before any more mischief was perpetrated?

Because, you know, we wouldn't want to see the sleigh drive off and then notice one forlorn package left behind in the snow........that would be very sad.......

The sleigh has left and there are no parcels left behind on the cold cold ground, that's a good sign......in a while or so an elf should be trudging through the snow to your mail box with a package. You may open it before The Big Day if you so choose, or put it under the tree (any tree will do) for as long as you can wait.

Down in yond forest free
One evening you could see
A squirrely Santa digging
Underneath the Christmas tree, and singing...

"Oh, I've got a lovely bunch of ho-ho-nuts.
There they are all lying in a heap.
Big ones, small ones, done in paper and string.
Give 'em away, no need to delay," so did that squirrel sing.

"Oi! I've got a lovely bunch of ho-ho-nuts.
I've dug 'em up from all around the woods.
Wrap 'em, tag 'em, seal 'em up in a crate
Then ship the lot to Severn's cot, for Santa can't be late!"

Not one, not two, not three, but four packages to deliver in time for you lot to pull 'em out from under that tree on Christmas morning. I tell yer - that Santa gets all the credit but who do you think does all the work? Yours truly of course.

And do I get to enjoy a mince pie and a glass of sherry? Not on your nelly mate. I have to stay off the stuff to watch me figure and Rudolph's the only one allowed to have a red nose this time of year.

I can tell yer - I am well looking forward to Boxing Day when I can put me feet up and 'ave a nice glass of plonk, although I think that there might still be stuff to deliver after that. Ah well, life's a wotsit, ain't it?

G'day my little chickadee!

Looking at the weather I am hoping that the number one elf makes it through. It's a determined little bugger so I reckon there's a good chance, especially if there's a nice reward at the end of its journey. anyway, all that nasty white stuff might have cleared by the time it sets off. Let us hope that is the case.

I have been giving a lot of thought to your gift selection. Maybe something for the summer, to match what you have for colder times. I've taken account of one, at least, of your hobbies, just a little something for you to work on. Something spicy and something sweet. Something to listen to as well. It's all in the bag and ready to go.

Fret not Dan. Your prezzie is still under construction but due to the fact I have spent the last week building igloos, stables and small shelters for the dwarves it hasn't got any further.

I KNOW I am supposed to know all the words for snow but I've been here 27 years and never had it so deep - about 15" by my bird table! Trying to keep them fed is difficult enough. There is no post around here at the moment either.

Please remember I use the OLD Christmas for my celebrations - and don't give up on me yet.

Warm hugs from a chilly place.
