Anyway, I was hoping you'd get yer ass back here.

Warren Buffett is honest enough to say that he should be taxed instead of the money being taken out of Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid. The Republicans won't allow this.
Their goal is to undue the "New Deal" by Roosevelt and make this country into a religious oligarchy.

Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid

Should be tampered with. Warren Buffett doesn't need it. He should pay for his own.

Bobert, remember that the cuts don't include revenue that could be provided by the wealthy tax evaders. Some of the Repubs such as Paul don't care or would support tax cuts for the Pentagon.

There is no guarantee by this president or any other member of Congress that Medicare, Social Security or Medicaid will not be tampered with through the gang of 12, one way or another.

Right now, 999, damage is continuing in America and the only way for the stock market to rise is with consumer confidence and that's not there. The Tea Party are blaming the wrong institutions. Wall Street is not on their side and will use them and spit them out. The wealthy CEO's are using the Tea Party to retain their wealth at the expense of the populace.

Fortunately, all this is unsustainable as we slip into a double dip recession or further depression. The entire world is feeling the effects of a recalcitrant Republican Congress and until we vote them out of office and replace them with rational Democrats (not much in evidence these days), the US is headed for a downward slide which might result in the future by Americans with sense taking back their economy from the Fascist Oligarchs. Things will have to get a lot worse, first.

The Tea Party has done damage to America, but they will fail as have all fringe groups. The stock market will return to normal within four months, and the notion of democracy will revive as people begin to realize the TP deluded them. I think Americans are smart enough to read between the lines, even if many folks have some difficulty reading what's being said. Anyway, that's my new year's prognosstication/proggnostication/proggnosstication guess, fwiw.

The Tea Party has controlled the conversation in the US Congress, Obama, playing right into it with this ridiculous idea of cutting social programs in the middle of a depression, cozying up to ideologues for the sake of "can't we all get along", who have preachers and demagogues pulling their strings and being exploited by the Koch Brothers and every other corporate fascist that robs the American taxpayer, poor and working class.

The gang of 12, sounding like a mafia organization, will reach a quick stalemate that solves nothing and do you think you can trust the Congress from keeping their grubby hands off of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, not to mention educational programs, fixing infrastructure, unemployment insurance, and allowing the Pentagon free access to the taxpayer's pocketbook for useless incursions into foreign countries, promoting torture
throughout the world?

The Tea Party is rightly named as "The Mad Tea Party" out of Alice and Wonderland.

GfinS, I quote my sources consistently throughout (including quoting YOU, which, if you will recall, you did not like at all!). And during my stint as news director at the radio station, rather than me quoting my sources, I used what are known as "actualities." I would TAPE the source and use that in the newscast. So my sources were speaking for themselves.

There are three newscasters and commentators whom I admired very much. Edward R. Murrow, Walter Cronkite, and Daniel Schorr.

You either don't read very carefully, or you are given to prevaricate.

Tell you what, GfinS; study THIS for awhile.

Then study THIS.

When you can tell one from the other, you'll be better equipped to converse with the intelligent, well-informed folks that you liken to the Three Stooges.

As for my son??? Hey, he works and goes to college and blogs at CNN and knows more about American History, Economics and American Government than you seem to know, GfinS... I mean, if you actually have any understanding of these subjects you certainly are keeping it under wraps...

BTW, ya'll (except GfinS who refuses to learn new stuff) there is a great op-ed by Thomas L. Friedman (New York Times) that appears in this morning's "Charlotte Observer" entitled "The day leaders got unstuck"... A very good read and shouldn't piss anyone with average intelligence off...

Don, (Moe)Well, for a "... I have worked as a news director at a radio station (KORD, Tri-Cities, Washington--ABC network affiliate) and a technical writer and editor under contract to a government agency (BPA, under the DOE),....", you sure can't quote your sources when asked to verify your 'reporting'....when 'called out', because your info was all screwed up! What is that?..Years of being in the misinformation business??! Now you round up the 'big brains', and want to re-live being a 'political activist'??..Holy Shmoley! Well, I guess its an alternative to growing old graciously!

And Bobert, (Larry)...Two degrees and you made it to 'social worker'??..Then bitch, piss and moan that your kids don't seem to want to amount to much?? Sounds like some serious under achieving going on in that crew!!
Then, in the former Tea Party thread I ran your posts, five of them to be exact, through the 'Bullshit Detector' that analyzes texts for unneeded 'bullshit', (I can link it for you, in case you missed it), and it said that it could not recognize YOUR texts as a decipherable English text!!!.........Two degrees?????????..in what?? ..Food stamps?

and John P. (Curly), Look at the short sentences. See Spot. John plays with Spot. See Spot run. John runs from Jane. He likes Spot. Just like his Spot.

...and I betcha' you all understood!

By the way, before this inflames, I won't be escalating any rebuttals, in keeping with the 'mods' wishes. We already did that. So let the 'Nasty Spot', run away.

But it was cute of you!

Waving,
GfS

It strikes me that if there is no difference between political parties, then it should make no difference whether one votes for Barack Obama for a second term or (scary but possible prognostication here) Michele (God help us!!) Bachmann.

I had high hopes for Obama when he was first elected. He has had absolutely vicious and irrational opposition on everything he has tried to do, but even so, I really wish he would grow a spine and stop seeking compromises with those who, out of sheer cussedness, have absolutely no intention of giving an inch.

Knowing (disgusting, but unfortunately true--UNLESS we were to go to a preferential voting system, but when both current parties agree to that, there'll be ice hockey in Hell!) that third parties don't stand a chance under our present system—and especially in the current political climate—it's pretty much between Obama and whoever the Republicans put up, possibly (shudder!) Michele Bachmann.

If Bachmann were to win, I think I would move to Somalia and take my chances. . . .

Well yeah, GfinS's writings have gone downhill since she has fallen into the Tea-cult but she vacillates on even that "fact"... One day she's all Tea-cultist and the next day the problem is me or both parties or little green men climbing out of that space ship in her front yard...

She's like mercury (the element) in that she squishes out in any direction she thinks might sound plausible... She really is rudderless other than she hates Democrats... That kinda tells me that she is a clueless Republican who refuses to just step up and admit it...

The default argument in her repertoire is that "both parties" are the same... Yes, in our history this was very much the case... I worked two elections for the Green Party and that was a song-'n-dance routine that was fresh and relevant in those days but those days are long gone and the game has changed...

I mean, if folks can't see the difference between the parties today then Helen Keller could give them lessons in sight... Yeah, as an ol' Greenie, I hate it but that's reality...

As for GfinS making any sense in threads like this??? It won't happen because she is unwilling to learn any new material so we get worn out stuff from elections long ago and we get typical Republican-speak...

In other words??? Keep your day job, GfinS...

B~

Recommended books:

First of all, a good dictionary. Merriam-Webster is good (accurate definitions, and much of the broadcast industry uses it both for definitions and as a pronunciation guide for announcers and newscasters).

A couple of style manuals. On the shelf above my desk, within easy reach, I have the Chicago Style Manual and the New York Times Manual of Style and Usage. Both of these are available on-line, but it's better by far to have hard-copies at hand. I also have an excellent volume entitled Getting the Words Right:   How to Revise, Edit, and Rewrite (from a quote by Ernest Hemingway when he was asked why he had rewritten the last chapter of one of his novels twenty-nine times: "I was just trying to get the words right.").

An absolute must is a small volume that is essential to anyone who wants or needs to write anything beyond a "twitter" and have the words understandable to fellow humans who speak English:   Elements of Style, by William Strunk, Jr. and E. B. White, known among writers as, simply, "Strunk and White."

These should be readily available in any well-appointed book store, and most certainly through Amazon.

But beyond this, none of this will really help unless you have a clear idea of what it is you are trying to say. Mere grunts will not suffice.

No need to thank me. I'm always glad to help.

Don Firth

Is that why your replies are so fucked up?? I just thought it was your outlook on life!

This is a good start, GfS! Short sentences which each express one thought are your friend. I have no problem perceiving what you are trying to say here. Now if you could only learn about how your insults indicate incompetent communication you'd be on the way to being a viable discussion partner.

Note: Ad hominem attacks are generally regarded amongst REAL communicators as signs of faulty reasoning, bad writing, stupid tactics, and generally not being able to argue your points effectively.

Note two, just to continue your much-needed education: Ad hominem attack refers to attacking the people you are debating with instead of addressing the points under discussion. It's a well-known communication faux pas.

Note three, since it's impossible to tell just how illiterate you actually are: Faux pas is a phrase meaning, loosely, that you made a public error that you should have known better than to make.

Really, how would you feel if you were in a jam session with a musical incompetent who insisted on playing with good players, played too loud, didn't pay attention to what was going on, and wouldn't go away?

Good advice from John P., there, GfS, if you really want people to read what you post.

Run-on sentence generally indicating that the system is not working, and expressing general malaise with the world, along with contempt for anyone else who may comment, leavened with snide comments and personal insults at others on the thread, and then, when it finally reaches about a page and a half, with no major clause evident and with no paragraph breaks or puntuation, whatever punctuation there is appears to have been applied with a double-barrelled shotgun loaded with commas, periods, excamation points, and strings of dots and dashes (and Morse code doesn't really help with that).

No, GfS, your screeds are not easy to read. I have worked as a news director at a radio station (KORD, Tri-Cities, Washington--ABC network affiliate) and a technical writer and editor under contract to a government agency (BPA, under the DOE), and even I have difficulty deciphering what it is you're trying to say, and I've had to decode some real doozeys!!

DO put some effort into trying to be coherent.

The problem might be with you!!

Nope, GfS, you really are mostly incomprehensible most of the time. I hear you talking on music threads about practice, practice, practice, and LEARN YOUR INSTRUMENT! I agree completely. The exact same thing is true of learning to use the written word, and you haven't done so. Your writing usually makes you look like an idiot, whether or not your meaning has any intelligence. Your posts would have a lot more impact if it was really clear what you were trying to say. As it is, most people get part way through what you write and have such a hard time following you that they give up and move on. You are, perhaps, as bad at this as anyone I've seen.

Think about how you would feel in a jam session with a bunch of people who act like they know what they're doing, but one of them is out of tune, out of rhythm, plays way too loud, and puts all the chord changes in the wrong places. And won't leave the room, or admit he has anything to learn about music.

Note: A typo is not the same as illiterate syntax, lack of clarity, and faulty punctuation.

Assumptions, assumptions, assumptions! How come you guys insist on putting words in people's mouths, then go on to debating what was never said??? I thought that old hat trick would have worn out it's purpose. So, do you have a 'ghost writer'? This is sounding all too familiar!
Hey, you like the rudderless direction the ship of fools are taking us, well, goodie goodie..vote for them again....but don't expect things to get better....and for goodness sakes, ignore the last two years...where things certainly got better, didn't they?
Good Grief!

Bottom line, GfinS is exactly what what you said, "I don't care"...

Well, having knowledge of history, government and economics makes you want to care...

Get some education and then maybe you'll get beyond bumper sticker slogans...

I've given you 2 things to Google and if you were to do that then maybe I'd think that you are trying to find some real world justifications for your policy positions... But you don't seem to want to learn anything???

Go figure???

B~
