Subject: RE: BS: Ate my Frog ... From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 28 Aug 12 - 07:56 PM The trick to having frogs and fish is to have a big enough pond that you don't give a damn if the birds eat a few. The local great blue herons and belted kingfishers think of my pond as an all-you-can-eat buffet. |

It would come over to you in its little cage all nice and sweet, then bite ya right on the finger when you tried to pick him up. Thing lived for 4 years which is pretty long for a hamster |

Subject: RE: BS: Ate my Frog ... From: olddude Date: 28 Aug 12 - 01:56 PM so last night I go out to my genuine plastic fountain and there it was. A new frog, (nice looking one too) and two gold fish, and a can of gold fish food. Note from my doc buddie. Don't jump out of planes, fish instead LOL Well since his farm pond has gold fish and frogs, I figured out before the note where they came from. Nice fat fish too |

Subject: RE: BS: Ate my Frog ... From: GUEST,999 Date: 18 Sep 11 - 12:35 PM I moved recently and had to leave behind my toad whom I called Winston (after Churchill). The only thing me was missing to be the spitting image of Churchill was the top hat and the cigar. I did offer him a drag of a cigarette but he just kept hopping. I go back to that place every few days to see if he's about. No luck so far. He had this facial expression, but he was brown without the bumps. |

Subject: RE: BS: Ate my Frog ... From: Rapparee Date: 17 Sep 11 - 09:50 PM Back during my Boy Scout days we used to hunt frogs along the shore of the lake at the Camp. We were going to fix us some frog legs! Funny thing -- somehow the frogs knew we were coming (could it have been the noise?) and vanished before we approached. We did catch a fish once, though. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ate my Frog ... From: frogprince Date: 17 Sep 11 - 09:37 PM Maeve, you missed a good opportunity; you could have had his little legs to eat, and made a little wheel chair for him. Subject: RE: BS: Ate my Frog ... From: Janie Date: 17 Sep 11 - 09:11 PM Frogs have been known to eat hummingbirds. Maybe it was the frog's karma? Neat frog story got related to me tonight when I took an old friend out to dinner who I hadn't seen for awhile. Said friend had raised a couple of tree frogs he had grabbed from his backyard when they were tiny. This summer he grabbed another couple of tree frogs to raise and observe, and as they are doing well in the aquarium, he decided earlier in the summer to liberate the first two. One of them frequents the water garden. (He knows it is one of the frogs he raised because, due to the constant good diet of crickets they got in captivity, they grew to a bit larger size than tree frogs in the wild achieve.) Two weeks ago he was sitting on the steps of his deck, near the water garden, and the tree frog jumped down onto the ground, and hopped toward him. To his amazement, the frog hopped up the steps and then onto his leg, and sat there looking up at him for quite a long time before finally turning and heading back into the yard and up into a tree. His best guess is the frog recognized him by sight or smell as the source of live crickets tumbling into the his previous aquarium home at regular intervals. |

Subject: RE: BS: Ate my Frog ... From: maeve Date: 17 Sep 11 - 06:07 PM Dan, I had a froggy resident in a little wading pool I planted in my yard. A leopard frog moved in that day, and did well for about a year. One night, a raccoon grabbed hold of his back right foot, and Leopard pulled free, minus one foot. When I found him the next morning he was in bad shape. I wrapped him in a damp towel with that ragged leg poking out one end of the roll, and his nose at the other. A friend held the frogroll steady so I could take a close look at the damage. It took a sharp pair of scissors, a needle, and some effort, but I managed to trim the rsgged skin and stitch a flap of skin over ihs leg stump. Dang, frog skin is some tough! That frog and his slightly altered foot arrangement continued visiting my little faux pond for another two years. |

Subject: RE: BS: Ate my Frog ... From: gnu Date: 17 Sep 11 - 01:17 PM "All decked out for a hot night on the town." What kinda bar was he going to? Speakin a turtles. An elephant arrives at a waterhole, spots a turtle on a log, walks over a kicks it up over the tree tops into the forest. A giraffe asks why he did it. The elephant says that he recognized the turtle as the one that bit him on the snout while he was taking a drink at the water hole when he was a baby 50 years ago. The giraffe says, "Wow! You have a great memory." The elephant says, "Yeah, turtle recall." I don't care if you two don't like it. That's all yer gettin from me for your B'days. |
Subject: RE: BS: Ate my Frog ... From: GUEST,999 Date: 17 Sep 11 - 12:52 PM I think part of the problem is that frogs don't seem to know squat about camouflage with regard to their backdrops. Look at this guy. All decked out for a hot night on the town. Just four seconds after this shot was taken, there he was, gone, clutched tightly in the claws of a terrodactill/pterohdacktil/fu#ckingfast bird. I love the little critters, but damn they ain't too bright. |

Subject: Crows are unpleasant f-ers? From: Crowhugger Date: 17 Sep 11 - 12:02 PM Big Al, Crows are known for doing an exemplary job of raising their young and for being adaptable.
