Many times have I bought alcohol in a supermarket and got the alarm signal ' approval needed ' but this morning I had to get approval to buy a shirt in ASDA, what the f*** is that all about ?

Jacqui and I went to Tesco to get a bottle of Aberlour. There was one on the top shelf. I was surprised to find that it was just an empty box!

I fooled them then Jack, and I didn't buy an empty box like kendall did.

Good price on Laphroaig and Highland Park at Tesco at the moment.

I am 70-some years old and I was miffed and disbelieving when I discovered that in Alaska everyone now has to present ID even for a beer. At Folk Festival I stepped over to a pizza place for a sandwich and a glass of Alaskan Amber.

I hadn't brought along any ID- for heaven's sake I was at a Folk Festival. A young man from our party gave me his identification to present- they accepted it.

A local liquor store asked gray haired old me for my ID and I refused, left the bottle on the counter and walked out. They soon stopped doing that.

The jar stores here stipulate that if you look under 25 you will be asked for ID.

It seems that all of Alaska is being required to check ID of everyone. The premise, I am told, is that they catch people who have driving violations of some sort. Can't imagine why that would work.

And the counterguy accepted a young man's ID for an old woman. Humph.

Alaska, like Hawaii reqires the ID for ALL alcohol sales....even airports and hotels.

IF you have had troubles (DUI spousal etc) your drivers 's license is punched with a hole it has NOTHING to do with age...it is to let everyone know "no booze for this abuser. Both states have indigenous populations...for whom alcohol has a horrible effect.

In Tescos UK, if you buy clothes (eg a shirt) and use the automatic checkout, it comes up as 'assistance needed' because the clothes have a security tag attached. The assistant comes along and removes it. Maybe the Shirt Incident was something along those lines, Dave? I once bought a skirt there and used the normal checkout. The checkout lady forgot to take off the tag, and of course the alarm sounded as we left the store. I was petrified and the Guard came racing up. As we had the receipt, it was ok. But I hate it when that happens, people turn and look and you imagine them saying "That woman looks shifty, I bet she's a shoplifter!".

Dan... a few days ago, I returned an item. I had paid cash. I dislike it when they want my name, phone number, verify the address on the screen, whatever. I have two favourites. J. Cash, and the address they have is not me on accounta I'm from Nashville. The other is H. Dumpty and I live on Wall Street. My phone number is unlisted. And when I sign... yup, X or a real flashy Z but don't recognize me without my mask.

I wanted to stock up on Paracetamol Plus before we went to Spain in April in case I had headaches. I took 3 packs of 16 to the checkout and was told that I could only take 2 packs. I pleaded with the checkout lady that I might want to kill myself at which she was not amused!!!

I'd have thought that 32 Paracetamol Plus taken all at once are quite sufficient to do the job! (Not that I'm encouraging you Bonzo!) Anyway, what's to stop people going to several different shops and buying two packets in each? Nanny State! My friend Pat takes a low-dosage aspirin each day, and the woman behind the counter always asks if she's taken them before, and if her doctor approves. It makes her hopping mad. She says she's always tempted to say "Sod the blooming doctor!" but she's too much of a lady.
