In separate statements, world-famous director Clint Eastwood and internationally beloved porn star Jenna Jameson have both endorsed Mitt Romney as the next President of the United States. Clint played "Dirty Harry," and Jenna markets porn-moan ringtones for your phone.

Eva Longoria, "Sexiest Woman of 2008," is backing Obama. So is Adam Baldwin, the friendly "Mr. Conductor" at Shining Time Station.

Question: Why should we care who entertainment celebs endorse?

Better question: Why do they want us to?

Best: Do we go with the candidate picked by our favorite celeb, or the candidate who's garnered the most celebs?

Suggestion: If voting in presidential elections could be restricted to entertainment celebrities over the age of 18, making at least $250,000 in the prior year, votes could be counted more quickly, and network TV broadcasts wouldn't have to be interrupted for boring Election Night Coverage.

Why should we care who entertainment celebs endorse?

We shouldn't other than as a point of interest, and as an expression of their personal opinion.

Why do they want us to?

Who says they do?

Somebody does. Otherwise it wouldn't be in the news.

"Why should we care who entertainment celebs endorse?"

When I was entering my impressionable teenage years back in the early 70's
countless pop culture celebrities endorsed promiscuous sex , booze, drugs, and rock 'n' roll....

so I would hope by now I've learnt enough to mistrust the judgement of celebrities by now...........?????????

"Why should we care who entertainment celebs endorse?"

The question is better phrased as "Why should I give a rat's ass who ANYBODY endorses?"

I'll study 'em and make up my own mind, thank you. Right now I'm kinda leanin' to my own candidacy -- the only honest candidate, because I admit that I'm only in it for the money.

Of course, you could always do what the media here have begun to persuade us - elect the celebrity. Boris for our next PM!

BTW, I like the urban dictionary's derivation of Politics: from poly meaning "many" and tics meaning "blood-sucking parasites".

'[Jenna] Jameson was a political liberal and during an interview with Allison Kugel on May 17, 2007, revealed that she supported New York Senator Hillary Clinton's bid for presidency.[109][110] Jameson endorsed Mitt Romney to CBS News on August 2, 2012, stating, "I'm very looking forward to a Republican being back in office. When you're rich, you want a Republican in office."'

999: That makes no sense. For every celebrity who supports the Republicans, I could name 10 who supports the Democrats, but that would be severely boring.

That Jenna! *She's* no phony.

Same with Clint. He says Romney will "restore a decent tax system."

I know what that means.

I had to look up Adam Baldwin. He is not related to Alec Baldwin and hence has a good chance of being sane.

He is a family man with a wife and three kids and has a libertarian streak.

Oops! I meant "Alec Baldwin," of course. The friendly "Mr. Conductor" and cell phone miscreant.

That's what happens when you type without enough Sunday morning joe.

""Of course, you could always do what the media here have begun to persuade us - elect the celebrity. Boris for our next PM!""

They already tried that disastrous idea in the US, and got Ronald Reagan for a Pres.

That's like Boris on steroids!

Alec Baldwin is an endorser of Democrats, famous for his acting.

Stephen Baldwin is a former actor, famous for being a brother of Alec who is a now celebrity for endorsing Republicans.

Would Jenna Jameson be in the news now had she not endorsed Romney?
Would anyone have even noticed her among the crowd endorsing Obama.

Clint is a little different. He's been a Republican for years. He's beem elected Mayor as Carmel, CA as a Republican.   It would be news for him to support a Democrat. As it was big news, but not totally unexpected when Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama in 2008. Certainly Mr. Powell was a meaningful endorsement. Jenna Jameson? It is hard to see how she could do Gov Romney any good.

It may surprise people, but Clint Eastwood is trained in music theory, was a jazz pianist at one time ('till he needed money) and has been on the board of directors of the Monterey Jazz Fesitival for decades.

He is also a lifetime civil rights activist, strongly supports the right to abortion, he is a huge conservationist, and has opposed all our wars since WWII. However, I believe he supprted stopping Fidel from building a full military landing strip and airport in Granada.

The question I would ask is, "Why would a celebrity who wishes to appeal to a broad audience want to risk alienating part of that audience by endorsing a particular candidate?" It's one thing when a celebrity's reputation is based upon a particular set of social/political values (Michael Moore doesn't care if he alienates conservatives because they don't watch his films.), but another if one's art is politically neutral. There are probably a fair number of Obama supporters who will take a pass on Mr. Eastwood's next film because of his endorsement of Romney.

"There are probably a fair number of Obama supporters who will take a pass on Mr. Eastwood's next film because of his endorsement of Romney."

There are probably a fair number who will SAY they'll skip Clint's next movie. IMO, few people do a damned thing that inconveniences themselves in the slightest.

Clint gets a pass he's old. He plays jazz. He is socially liberal.

I think its the Stephen Baldwins of the biz we have to look at. The lack of movie deals came before the Republicanism. That is the usual pattern.

Note that George Clooney is as big a star as he has ever been.

Some Hollywood "conservative" people claim they are afraid to express right wing views or else their movies won't get made. But there seems to be a relationship between right wing views and lack of acting talent. And don't say that Clint Eastwood was a good actor. He just wasn't.

Right on JtS.

The terms "Film Star" and "Actor" never have been, are not now, and never will be synonymous.

Some actors may be film stars, some film stars may be actors. Clint Eastwood is simply a film star.

The Republican Party was a lot more moderate then Bruce. Obama's economic policies are a lot more like Reagan's than Romney's are.

Almost all of the country has moved to the right. But the GOP is in some sort of "the debt gets paid off without revenue" fantasy land.
