Subject: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: John MacKenzie Date: 23 Nov 12 - 11:47 AM That's what it's taking today. |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: Lizzie Cornish 1 Date: 23 Nov 12 - 12:43 PM With me too....although it was a bit faster just now...but normally I get 'connecting' and it just sits there, er connecting... :0( |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 23 Nov 12 - 01:47 PM Somedays you just have to open the Mudcat twice and let one page load while you read another. It was slow for me a couple hours ago, but now it's fine. Both of you are regulars. Have you made a donation? Bought Amazon items from the page where Mudcat gets a cut? Hmmm. Does that 'Mudcat gets a cut' feature work outside the United States? |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: John MacKenzie Date: 23 Nov 12 - 02:32 PM I have made many donations to Mudcat. No more now. You get no accounts, and no appreciation.. I guess the more you can donate, the more return you see for your bucks. It helps to retain your position in the pecking order, if you can donate large sums. |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: Jeri Date: 23 Nov 12 - 02:42 PM Max is working on a big upgrade, and it means that the place will run slowly sometimes. |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: kendall Date: 23 Nov 12 - 03:02 PM Slow but free. Poppa Bear said, "My porridge is too hot", Baby Bear said "My porridge is too cold." Mama Bear said " Bitch, bitch, bitch." |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 23 Nov 12 - 03:31 PM It is taking ME less than two seconds. I keep preaching "leave your java and flash at the door before entering the Cafe". I still cannot figure out the "tracer cookies " that Max is now using...interesting persistance. Sincerely, Lizzy I can understand if they put a 24 hour hold on your account...you have been spewing a lot of vitrol lately...they have put me on retainer. |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: BrooklynJay Date: 23 Nov 12 - 03:41 PM Speaking only for myself, for the last couple of months it haas been impossible to access Mudcat from my old ComputerSaurus at home. The pages never stop loading, and everything freezes up. I know Max always wanted to keep this site simple and easy to use, especially if you have an older browser like I do, but I'm wondering what he's done that has changed everything recently - and what "big upgrade" he's currently planning. At this point, I'm limited to visiting occasionally when I'm at a public computer (like right now). Any chance Max's upgrade will restore Mudcat to compatibility with my ancient PC? I miss this place!! Jay |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: gnu Date: 23 Nov 12 - 04:05 PM leeneia... I happen to know (don't ask) that John "Giok" MacKenzie was (and still is, technically) one of the MAJOR contributors to Mudcat over the years. Even if he never gives another dime, he will still have given FAR, FAR more than his fair share. There are others but, as far as I know, not many. |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: Joe Offer Date: 23 Nov 12 - 06:32 PM Yeah, it's been a little sluggish off and on, especially in the mornings. It was off and on today, I hear - the moderators sent a report to Max. Seems to be working OK now. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: Bill D Date: 23 Nov 12 - 06:45 PM People who know about web hosting and discover that Mudcat has been run out of someone's house for 16 years... and was written in house (not a standard clone)... are amazed that it can have this many hits per day and keep running at all! |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: Beer Date: 23 Nov 12 - 06:45 PM Real fast now. 2 seconds. Ad. |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: gnu Date: 23 Nov 12 - 06:51 PM Not only out of the house... next to the litter box in the basement! Hence my comments years ago when the cat was down or slow... "Cat's scratchin today". |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: ChanteyLass Date: 24 Nov 12 - 12:04 AM I haven't donated, but I click on some ads! |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: John MacKenzie Date: 24 Nov 12 - 05:17 AM Much better today thanks. BTW Garg, I removed Jave a from my system totally, so I can't blame that. When a site I use occasionally asked me to reload it, before it would work. I thought I'd reload and see what happened, but my PC won't load it again. ;) |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: Mr Red Date: 24 Nov 12 - 07:54 AM 0 - Bitch in 65 seconds - chill out guys, the 'Cat is worth every penny you aren't contributing. I volunteer at a Community Radio station and there are 60 members who volunteer and use high tech equipment but there are some who can't change a toilet roll! Yea yea, some who are too lazy to engage the "community" brain cell, and some who never had it. We are a community here. And there are notso techy ways of dealing with latency. Multitasking!, Us men may have a problem with that but computers - they lap it up. |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: MikeL2 Date: 24 Nov 12 - 09:05 AM Hi Occasionally it goes a little slower but hey only marginally. Usually I get almost immediate responses. I have a good modern computer with an Intel i7 processor and have a good fast reliable broadband supplier. No problems here. Even though I am across the pond !! Thanks to Max and all involved for this great site. Cheers MikeL2 |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: GUEST,ketchdana Date: 24 Nov 12 - 01:57 PM I haven't had a problem lately, but whenever a page seems stuck on "loading...", any page, I figure the problem is probably not the page itself, but the extra add-ons, like adverts, java-script bells & whistles, google-metrics kinds of things contacting external sites... After 30 seconds or more, I just click on ("Stop loading this page"), then click on ("Reload the current page"). Usually brings the page right up. Whatever I'm missing, I don't miss. =Bob (USA, mid-continent) |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: Stanron Date: 24 Nov 12 - 03:13 PM This is a bit off topic but every now and then my browser slows right down for everything irrespective of the time of day. It's not often, maybe once or twice a year. My solution is to use a different browser. I'm currently using Firefox. I have Opera as a back up and in the past have used Avast, Explorer, Google Chrome and others. With a new browser the speed becomes normal again. |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: GUEST,999 Date: 24 Nov 12 - 03:52 PM Takes me at least that long to open a CD package these days. |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: fat B****rd Date: 24 Nov 12 - 04:01 PM I have to re-register every time I come here. It's not the end of the world but I'm not sure why. |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: Joe Offer Date: 24 Nov 12 - 04:41 PM Seems to be more sluggish in the morning, for some reason. Sure is sluggish now... Fat B****rd, if you're having to log in every time you come to Mudcat, it's probably a setting on your browser. Your login sets a cookie on your computer, and that cookie should identify you at Mudcat until it's erased. Try another browser and see if that helps. Also, check your security settings on your browser and your antivirus program. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: 65 seconds to open a thread!! From: fat B****rd Date: 25 Nov 12 - 03:45 PM Thank you, Joe. I'll be doing just that. Charlie. |
