Well, bobette, I've found that if I slather an item with enough lemon oil and black shoe polish I can sell anything and get top dollar for it.
I don't know why, but it works. Use a Q-tip in the nooks and crannies.
Lemon oil.
Black shoe polish.
=(:-( ))

Give them to a local thrift store, Dan. That's what I did with a whole bunch of paintings that were left at my parents' place (none of them were notably valuable, so not much point trying to sell them...but the thrift store was happy to take them). I mostly deal with the Salvation Army, because they are a real charity.

Since Flavor Flav (who wore a big clock)has had some problems, you could just carry it around. The girls seem to a guy with a big clock.

That's about what I'd figger. 800-1000 can buy a lotta bananas, Bobertz.

And a reasonable amount of good whiskey too.

- Chongo

p.s. But if ya can't find a buyer, it'll still make a great boat anchor.

Bobster if it runs and in good shape, ya can get 800-1000 fer it and that is a realistic number

Okay, Bobertz, there is all kinda info out there about Ridgeway Grandfather clocks.

Take a look at this, for instance:

http://www.nextag.com/ridgeway-clocks-value/shop-html?nxtg=f6b0a500520-DB6D86D55BAB04D6

They appear to mostly run around about $2,000 and up. Looks like they are still in business nowadays. Yers bein' an older one, it might be worth less than the new ones or it might be worth more. Hard to say.

Check here for more info:

I wish I had never volunteered to get the clock 'cause, to me, it's everything I didn't like about the style of the 60s but the P-Vine loves it... I can't see it anywhere in out house... I was hoping it was worth enough $$$ for me to buy another geetar... I don't have a clue what it is worth, really... Can't find any like it on ebay or anywhere...

BTW, it is a 1968, Ridgeway, model 172, Movement E, Finish FTW, Serial 227 in case anyone is bored and wants to see if they can find out what it's worth...

Bobert, a grandmother clock is like a grandfather clock, only smaller.

as for what to do with it, wind it up and use it to tell time.

The song "My Grandfather's Clock" is great on fretted dulcimer.

The difference between a grandfather and a grandmother clock is just size. Grandfather types are imposing big ones.

Bobert-

Let me see if I've got this story straight.

So this lady wanted you to wind her clock, so to speak? And you and a neighbor went over to her house to do the job?

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Okay, then, what ya do is advertise it as "one-of-a-kind", "the only surviving example of this extremely rare and valuable classic grandfather clock", and start the bidding off at $35,000. Make sure you go a lotta real good photos from all angles.

Well, I don't have a clue, Chongz... Yeah, I know the story sounded fishy and it is but I don't know why she gave me the clock... BTW, she also gave my neighbor, who drove me over there, a gas grill which works...

I donno about finding one on the inter net... I punched in the model number (127) and the nane (ridgeway) and the year it was built (1958) and ain't found nuthin'...

Don is on the right track, Bobertz. Get the brand name, model number, and do a search. You'll probably find one on Ebay or some other auction site and you can get an idea what it's worth.

- Chongo

p.s. What else did she want? I thought you was goin' somewhere's else with that story. Spill the beans, but keep it clean! ;-D Ook! Ook!

This lady referred to this clock as a "grandmothers clock"???

No matter, it's in my possession now... It's real 50s-ish... I mean, well made and all but kinda dated...

So this past Tuesday or Wednesday, I donno, I was at the local nails place getting a nail put on my picking finger and there was a lady next to me getting all ten and me, well ya' know I'm gonna be talkin' shit and so this lady and I get talkin' and she wants to know why I was getting just one nail so I told her and then we get talkin' music and me talkin' blues and next thing we're talkin' about her husband... Seems that hubby just don't do what he's 'sposed to and...

...well, this ain't goin' where you thought it was 'cause...

...in this case it was a clock that she wanted to give away???

Well, seein' as there have been a lot of clock stories of late her in the Mudpit I figured that I'd ask her about it and next thing ya know this ol' gal is offering this clock to me???

Hey??? Free???

So, in spite of a recent inhury, I had a neighbor drive my truck to this ladies house this morning and there in her garage was a perfect 1958 Ridgeway Model 127 grandfathers clock?!?!?!?...

So it's out i the gargage and I have the original owners card and some envelopes with spare parts and a warrent bbok and an owners manual, to boot...

I am clueless what to do with it but...

B~
