Enjoying this.
Roger Waters, "Money"... vocalist sings "don't give me that do-goody-good bullshit" and then, right after that, comes the split-second muting, presumably intended to have been for "shit". Somehow, it doesn't seem like an accident.

For real, I gave up trying to sit through this. Man, I saw Pink Floyd do this on tour, live. And Springsteen/Bon Jovi?

I'm pretty sure I heard the word "shit" - maybe because they think Canadians can handle it?

Not a big fan of Pink Floyd - a bit over produced and over blown for my taste but I really like Eddie Vedder's voice.

Bob, the rawness of the voices made Roger Waters and Eddie Vedder made it not over-produced, although Pink Floyd recordings were fairly slick.

The bleeper stumbled over (actually some blips AFTER) "fanculo", but I'm gonna quit listening for words like an immature teenager. It's the Madison Square Garden--a huge show--and not something they'd have to clean up LIVE, and I'm glad they could televise it.

Looking at McCartney on stage you can still see the young Beatle up there, tired tho.

Why.
As the Usa was the worst polluter in the world it is surely good that the are getting some of their own medicine.
As the richest country in the world - do they really need charity aid?
I can understand feeling sorry for those left home less etc but the USA needs to ' put its house in order' first.

You know, FloraG, after the Boxing Day Tsunami, someone told me that God had punished all those dead people for being Muslim. I thought at the time that that was the most insensitive, tasteless comment I'd heard in my life.

Thank you SO much for providing me with a new one for my collection! And I'm sure all those rich homeless folk (after all, all Americans are rich, don't you know?) will thank you for enriching their lives with your philosophical gem...

(Remember Hurricane Katrina and all those dead or homeless Black millionaires? Oh, hang on a sec - they weren't rich? Oops!).

Brian - Im not sure which country you are from, but if you live in a democracy you not only have to take responsibility for your own actions but those of your government too. For too many years the usa people and their elected governments have been over complacent about global warming, to the point of denying it.
In GB we let builders build on flood planes - and then complaned when the houses flooded. Who is to blame? The planners, the builders, the purchasers, the banks who lent the money, the surveyors, people like me who elected the local Government or the people who could not be bothered to vote. We all are, I think. Democracy is not about being rich or poor but about being active.

FloraG, I think you're missing the point here - you're confusing 'the people' and 'people'. The former is a convenient abstract; the latter are real human beings who bleed, and drown, and die, and suffer loss.

I still think you're basically saying that the victims of Hurricane Sandy somehow DESERVED it. And, regardless of your environmental or political point of view, they didn't.

Brian

bobad... I am 55... if my gut looked that trim, I'd walk around Sobeys grocery without a shirt. >;-) 70? with a gut that trim? Why wouldn't he show it off? On WORLDWIDE TV, rock star, trim gut. Now, THAT IS A FANTASY! I'll bet when he gets back to the nursing home there are gonna be a lot of dentures in drinking glasses overnight!

But, yeah... The Who was good for two songs but five? six? Like Jeri said... had to switch the channel me.

And, I heard The Boss was on minimum wage... one REALLY good album and that makes you "The Boss"... wtf wit dat?

In any case, some of the comedy was okay.

You missed another 70-year old (69, actually) ripping of shirts down to a black see-though number and doing his chicken-with-attitude strut all over the stage and belting out songs as if he were immune to the aging process (except for wrinkles). Keith Richards is finally starting to look his age. I finally gave up when Kanye West was on.

Caught some of what I missed on various sites this AM - really liked the job on "Under the Boardwalk" with Billy Joel, the Aerosmith guy, Jimmy Fallon and Springsteen.

Brian - in new orleans they put up some flood defences using collective ( tax ) money. It worked in the last hurricane. This is in a country that one major party claim to be against collective expenditure, and individual expenditure is the capitalist way. It would seem obvious to most Brits that collective flood defences make more sense than each individual putting a wall around their house.

Of course its tough on individuals, but most of the financial loss is covered by insurance. Thats why most people take out insurance. The emotional suffering can not be recompensed by any amount of funds, however raised. Reducing their carbon emmissions has to be a more effective long term ploy than a concert. Think globally, act locally. Since Kyoto the USA has increased its emissions. Are they such slow learners?

However, we got a concert, which obviously gave joy to many - and the world needs all the joy it can get.

Seasons Cheers Brian
FloraG

Seriously, the whole "broader picture" of the Evil USA, with and various hurricanes as punishment from God, is stupid. If you're going to jerk the focus away from individual people devastated by an individual storm, in a specific area of specific country, start a new fucking thread!

It's a lame-ass troll to pick on people who've had homes and lives destroyed to make a point--that you are so much better than them. As trolls go, this is only going to suck in some easily pissed off folks, bored people who've had their fill of Honey Booboo and some usual British flamers.

I don't know that it's legal for anyone trying to pick fights on a website dedicated to music in such an artless manner to ride horses that high.

In light of that, I think I can do a more effective troll, based on dragging out a sacred cow and... well, you know.

Adam Sandler "doing" Hallelujah.

So you think Leonard Cohen should sue or not?
[The above is heavily laced with sarcasm, except that I think trolling this thread is pretty lowlife-scummy-douchebaggy.]

Observations

The Stones mailed in their performance. Pretty uninspired. Keef looked like the unwrapped mummy of Ramses the Third.

The Who were very good, and Daltry surprised me by hitting most of the notes in Love Reign o'er Me. Didn't need to see his gut, though. Somebody further up the thread called him "trim"?

Billy Joel gave a very enjoyable and professional show, in a tough spot following the Who.

McCartney started a little weak, but got better through his set. I really enjoyed blackbird.

LEJ... "Somebody further up the thread called him "trim"?"

Not an ounce of fat on the lad. That is what surprised me. That and the wig... it WAS a wig, right? I HOPE it was a wig. Of course, the last time I had curly hair I was about three years old and the last time I had hair... So, I suppose I shouldn't dis his hairstyle.

I did see some of The Stones but when the West wind blew (pun intended), I hit the bunk too.
