What I love about this is that the man has actually built a better mousetrap, shown how it works and is hoping that the world will beat a path to his door.
If it is combined with some heat storage then it could really provide some useful energy savings in cold (but sunny) climates.
Compare this with the multitude of GREEN WIDGET SCAM companies that demand money up front from investors and governments to keep their directors supplied with FERRARIS and TRUFFLES (OINK) while they make endless excuses for the delays in delivery.

I got bored (and poor) trying to stop the GREAT SUNCUBE SWINDLE
but I've found another target.

This wave energy (Oh Lordy!) company has been snuffling up green swill for 25 years and has delivered NOTHING!
Green Widget coming real soon...send munny!

My take on this....

The only thing OPTT produces is bullshit.
After 25 years they don't have a working PowerBuoy.
They have never delivered ANY power to shore.
Nobody wants their stupid autonomous PowerPhooeys, that is just another delaying tactic.
Oh dear, the weather is a tad inclement we'll have to delay some more!
Where are the PowerPhooeys that have been promised (and paid for) at the Cornwall Wave hub and EMEC in Scotland?
As for the idea that the PB150 was "just a prototype" and the new PB500 will be along real soon "send munny now".

WHOO HOOO!

The idea that a behemoth like the PB500 will be more efficient is laughable.
What responds best to wave motion?
A CORK or an AIRCRAFT CARRIER?

The PB500 will just sit there in the water like a big pile of rusting scrap iron as the waves slosh up against it.

Naturally the analysts at the press conference never ask the hard questions.
If they did then the game would be all over.

The only money that OPTT has ever earned is the cash that has been paid up front by dumb as dogshit governments who want to be seen to be green.

One final thing, how does a company that has never earned a cracker from sales justify paying half a dozen geriatric directors MILLIONS of dollars in salaries? 14 Dec, 05:36 P

Thanks, gnu. That's most interesting, and I hope it's for real.

Now, the next step to true greenness would be to produce the units without people manufacturing, shipping and drinking soda pop first.

leeneia... I guess someone else DID find... INVENT... some GREEN! What wonderful idea! "Stop POP! Save (insert whatever green... the polar bears... the children... the planet... us)". Call India and get the t-shirts made! There's a million dollars in t-shirts, lass. And, green plus green is a win-win!

Although much of the hype has been about solar electric conversion, solar thermal panels have been in fairly common use for supplemental residential heating in the US since at least the early 1950s. The percentage of houses built with them as original equipment has never been high, but most "developments" with 50 or more units would likely have at least one or two, and within a decade after first sale perhaps a half dozen might install add-in units, in areas that get sufficient sun.

Lots of experimenters have used about any material/construction one can imaging for the plumbing, and although I haven't seen Al beverage cans used it's within the general scope of "creative ideas" that have been touted.

Although the usual claim for projects that use them is that the cans are free, scrap dealers in the US at present offer about three cents per can (80 cents/pound), so not selling them for scrap has to be counted as a cost for materials. It appears that the tube assemblies used in the video use about two dozen cans per tube, with 8 or 10 tubes. That's 200 joints to be welded or soldered (or glued). [I didn't get how he puts them together 'cause "she was listening to somethin' else and I couldn't turn the sound up.]

The scene at the beginning showed him taking about 20 seconds to punch a clean hole in one end of one can, so just initial prep of the cans for one exchanger would entail an hour or so of "drill time," with additional for cleaning/polishing the joint and then making a whole lot of joints. Experience has been that welding thin aluminum is a pretty touchy process, so I'd guess 10% scrap rate(?), but he might be really good at it by now.

Probably cost competitive, and maybe lighter weight, than a dozen old truck radiators ... ? maybe ...

Ya gotta know that it's terribly difficult to make a commercially viable product with unconventional methods and materials, especially for a product with "low market penetration." But it's also exceedingly encouraging to see the few people who keep trying. When the applause dies down for this guy, we should have a spokesperson wish him immense good luck with the project.

Along the same lines, a recent article reported a teenager in some remote (desert?) country who built his own "turbine" powered generator to tap the flow (they said water but it looked like sewage) in a local ditch. The town had NO ELECTRICITY and he wanted to be able to get the evening news on an old TV set, and of course charge his - and his neighbors' - iPads or whatever they had. In the process he had to build the turbine, generator, and a battery our of scrap parts and materials, according to the article.

There really is A LOT of this sort of stuff going on, although it's mostly in fairly isolated places. "Somebody" really oughta form up a club to get more people involved.

John

Dude....you don't have ANY evidence that your dumb as dogshit solar heater provides any worthwhile energy whatsoever.

But that doesn't stop you from selling DEALERSHIPS!!

Google SunCube scam to see how a green vapourware scam works.
Too fudging easy!
And it's probably not even breaking the law.
Licensees should have known better...tough titties!

SunCube scam sold dozens of million dollar franchises around the world for the vapourware SunCube.
The idiotic AlCan air heater is in the same catagory.
It is TOTAL BOLLOCKS!!!!!

The ALcan solar heater thread nearly had me going!
It SOUNDED like a good idea.
Take waste aluminium cans and convert into a low cost space heater.
TRIFFIC .........BUT!!!!

Idea has been around for 20 years, no genuine test results, no happy customers but a whole train of disgruntled dealership purchasers.

Website disables cut and paste (what are they afraid of?)
so I'll have to do it the hard way.
Wanna buy a franchise?

http://www.cansolair.com/cansolair-network-requirements#our-expectations

OH LORDY!

We back our dealers with our years of experience and knowledge of solar heating systems. blah blah..

Start up costs can be as little as $6000
(but we'll take as much as you're dumb enough to pay)

Dealers have to come to terms with our expectations OR it's time to close up the dealership!!! (WTF?)

Sorry dude....you are not performing.....see ya!

Seriously guys have a look at the website
If you want to have a good scam.....make it a GREEN SCAM!!

Go ahead...prove me wrong....I'll eat my fur king hat!!!!

Further research has been shown that beer cans work best and of those Moosehead Dry Ice and Keiths IPA work best. A Guiness or two in the stack also improves the air flow. Bud is pure shit and gums up the works. Problem is that those cans have to be empty before they are of use. I would be more than happy to help my Mudcatter friends with the tideous job of empting them and would be more than willing to bring a guitar along and jam to relieve the boredom of preparation.

A lot of work has gone into making better absorbers for solar energy, and one of the areas receiving a lot of attention has been on micro-treatments of the absorbing surfaces, to minimize the fraction of the incoming that just gets reflected back out.

Obviously the b-can heat excangers could be significantly improved if the cans were wrapped with those Christmas tree "rope style" tinselly thingies to make them more fuzzy - or once the tubes are assembled one might just spill some beer on them (even Budweiser surely would work for that) and wait for them to grow their own green fur.

I have invented a renewable energy device that harnesses the wasted power in your wrist whenever you are enjoying the simple pleasure of beating your banana.
In order to meet the expected demand a highly robotised manufacturing facility is being built by our Asian partners Wang-King Inc.
Distributors are now being appointed for this paradigm shifting disruptive technology wot is eco-friendly and all shit like that.
If you wish to take advantage of this ground floor opportunity please send shirtloads of munny to Keef Wivanef c/- P.O. Box 3 Boggabilla NSW Orstraya.

Fank you very much
