Subject: RE: Get well soon Big Mick From: Lonesome EJ Date: 03 Nov 99 - 02:55 PM Now, Mick. You've not been well. I am counting on you to show restraint in your consumption of the vile black stuff when you meet with Spaw. It would be a damn fine example for him as well. If you just can't restrain yourself.. well then have one or two for LEJ! |
Subject: RE: Get well soon Big Mick From: Bert Date: 03 Nov 99 - 02:52 PM I'm glad I asked now. I've learned something. A friend of mine once said that "a day that goes by without you learning something new is a day that you've wasted". |
Subject: RE: Get well soon Big Mick From: Jeri Date: 03 Nov 99 - 02:45 PM Barry, don't read this. I know you meant it the way Bert explained it. I never knew about that meaning before, so thanks, Bert, for the info. A 'yobo' (pronounced yoe-boe) in Korea, at least as the term is used by American GIs, refers to a 'live-in girlfriend.' It was never very clear to me whether this was a relationship or a profession. I've heard married partners refer to each other by that term, to them it probably means 'honey' or 'darling-dumpling-sugar-plum.' I don't know which usage came first. A bit of totally uncalled-for information: Koreans don't call each other by their names, but rather by their positions/titles. A man would normally call his wife by the Korean word for wife. Men in general are called 'adashi,' which as near as I can tell is a word that means 'man' respectfully, like 'sir.' |
Subject: RE: Get well soon Big Mick From: bbc Date: 03 Nov 99 - 11:30 AM Yes, Bert. Jeri knows something you don't know & so do I. Hint--it's Korean. love, bbc |
Subject: RE: Get well soon Big Mick From: Bert Date: 03 Nov 99 - 08:42 AM Jeri, do you know something about 'yobo' that I don't? Where I come from, yob is backslang for boy. The final o in yobo (more often spelled yobbo) is added 'cos it sounds better. Backslang is used in England by shop keepers, especially butchers and to a lesser extent grocers. It is used so that the customers don't know what they are saying. Because of supermarkets, butchers and grocers are dying out, and backslang is dying with them. The term yobbo is derogatory and most often used to mean layabout. Except of course when it is used as a term of endearment by the likes of Barry. Bert. |

Would you folks call the Municipal Authorities and have them put on an extra cruiser tomorrow?? Thanks. I am trying to get better, and I will get caught up on my 'Cat duties this weekend, I promise......And Susan, would you mind icing those shrimp down real well?? thanks. Your good wishes are making me feel very good. I really do love you all. Mick |

I've been vicariously medicating for you and don't know how much longer my liver can hold out. Tried to do the "seven nights drunk" therapeutic regimen, but had to give up after only four. Maybe there's some other catters than can do the full week for you. A pint and a jimmy, that's the ticket. |

I knew you guys liked each other, but I never suspected... |

Subject: RE: Get well soon Big Mick From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 02 Nov 99 - 01:45 AM Mick, I think I read this in the Berkeley Barb, a Vietnam Era underground newspaper: it's the hippy's cure for the flu: Toke up, crawl into a sleeping bag with your girlfriend, make love, go to sleep; when you wake up, start the whole process over and over and over. In three days your flu will be gone (of course it's usually gone in three days, anyway, but you don't usually enjoy it). I suppose the original also said something about replenishing body fluids as needed, and I don't recommend peeing in your sleeping bag, not if you're going to stay in it for three days... --seed |

I did that last year -- strep and bronchitis in Washington D.C., then taking the airplane back looking obviously sick. Nothing like that to make you feel like a complete pariah....) Well yobo, you can go ahead & fall down now that you're been knocked out for so long,,, then you can get back up & sing. All that sweating & I thought you were doing the pig thing again & here I was teasing you about whimping out, ya know I didn't think you looked so hot the first time I laid eyes on ya but that was before I knew ya, then I thought he probably never looked so good, go figure. Well I'm about 2,000 east of you & you're really gonna have to make a full recovery to come this far to kick my butt. So I'll being seeing ya soon? Best of health & luck & lots of love. Barry |

Subject: RE: Get well soon Big Mick From: KathWestra Date: 01 Nov 99 - 03:16 PM Hey Big Mick. Big Hugs! I've been missing you around these parts. Take very good, tender care of yourself (just pretend you're one of your best friends kinda like Spaw). As so many of our buddies have said earlier in this thread, when you're sick is no time to be a hero. Whimper a lot and get people to take care of you. Wallow in being coddled by anyone willing to coddle you. (No, not cuddle, although now that I mention it...) Get well soon, my friend. (And you'd better be ALL better by the first weekend in December, when I intend to traipse down to Conklin to hear you and the fellas hold forth at Fenian's and collect on that brew you promised.) Kath |
Subject: RE: Get well soon Big Mick From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 01 Nov 99 - 02:39 PM So, Mick, you should take better care of yourself. As Catspaw intimated, it's time to throw that macho stuff out the window. I know that that big heart shines on these threads, but let it shine on you sometime. So you're sick and you think you're strokin' out. Yeah, that's what ambulances are for. I'm sure Dave would have picked you up if you had only called down to 'Spaw's place. And now, you're headed for Cincinnati and you not only want to work, but you want to go out to the music while you are there. Modern medecine works miracles, but you don't have to force them to be miracle workers. Slow down a bit! Come to the important realization that you can't do it all. You will live longer and less stressfully. Seriously, Mick. I'm sorry you had that scare. I don't do sick very well either. I'll put you in my prayers. Love, Roger in Baltimore |
Subject: RE: Get well soon Big Mick From: Cara Date: 01 Nov 99 - 12:54 PM Oooh, those sinus deals are brutal. Sorry to hear it. If you don't get better soon, cut off your nose and learn to breathe through your mouth. It's a quick fix (*BG*) I hear that alcohol kills germs in your bloodstream. I've replaced my former regimen of echinacea and zinc with a steady diet of beer and wine, and I've never felt better (except for the mornings but I've never liked those much anyway). Seriously, breathe well and feel better. |

No there will not be an indesciminate attack on the catholic clergy, parish priests are another name for Mick nad my favourite tiple the glorious cure for what ails you. The wonderful pint of Guinness sccchtout. Den (I know waffeling a bit) |

Subject: RE: Get well soon Big Mick From: Alice Date: 01 Nov 99 - 10:27 AM Hey, big guy, you're not supposed to get sinus infections.. that's my department!! I still have the effects of a year-long sinus infection that came from letting what I thought was a "cold" go too far without going to a doctor. So much for saving money on medical bills. It took a year of heavy duty antibiotics, so, man, I hope this doesn't happen to you. Now I will live with the tendency to get them forever. As you know, it hurts your brain and makes thinking very fuzzy, as well as general body weakness. No fair, man, you were supposed to be the big strong guy all of us ladies could lean on!
Well, enough of that mutual misery mumbling... get better, and email me privately for advice on the home remedies and preventions I've discovered.
love, |
