Subject: Lyric Request: The Old Man From: briegelg@bah.com Date: 14 Nov 96 - 07:50 AM I am looking for the lyrics of a song I heard years ago from an Irish folk group, entitled, I believe, The Old Man. I remember it as the memories of a son or daughter about his or her father, that had recently died. The father of a friend of mine died in an accident, and I would like to share this song with him. |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE OLD MAN (Phil Coulter) From: lwagers@academyonline.org Date: 19 Nov 96 - 01:40 PM THE OLD MAN (Phil Coulter) As recorded by Phil Coulter on “The Songs I Love So Well” (2000) The tears have all been shed now. We've said our last goodbyes. His soul's been blessed; He's laid to rest, And it's now I feel alone. He was more than just my father, My teacher, my best friend, And he'll still be heard in the tunes we shared When I play them on my own. CHORUS: And I never will forget him, For he made me what I am. Though he may be gone, mem'ries linger on, And I miss him, the old man. As a boy, he'd take me walking By mountain field and stream, And showed me things not known to kings But secret between him and me, Like the colors on a pheasant As he rises in the dawn, Or how to fish or make a wish Beside a fairy tree. CHORUS I thought he'd live forever. He seemed so big and strong, But the minutes fly and the years roll by For a father and a son, And suddenly when it happened, There was so much left unsaid-- No second chance to tell him thanks For ev'rything he'd done. CHORUS Enjoy, Gudrun ! Regards, Alisdair |
