Subject: RE: BS: Last meal From: GUEST,Ed T Date: 13 Aug 13 - 06:51 PM I don't recall these posts Gnu.I only look at those that seem to have an interesting (IMO) title. So, it is not odd I missed your posts. What shellfish are you refering to - I don t believe all shellfish types have worms? When you eat many marinme molluscs - like clams, mussels and oysters you are eating the guts. But, mot so for Scallops (also a marine mollusc), lobsters and crab. |
Subject: RE: BS: Last meal From: GUEST,John Coffey Date: 13 Aug 13 - 09:40 PM Meat loaf be nice. Mashed taters, gravy. Okra. Maybe some of that fine corn bread your missus make... |
Subject: RE: BS: Last meal From: Rapparee Date: 14 Aug 13 - 11:27 AM Come to think of it, 10,000 year old eggs would be good...and they have to start them immediately. |
Subject: RE: BS: Last meal From: GUEST,Ed ( Date: 14 Aug 13 - 11:52 AM OK, since I opened a thread speculating we have reached the end- I had my last meal a few minutes ago. It was lobster poutine- Fresh cut fries, gravy, cheese curds with lobster on top. Not too bad. The gravy is kinda a cream typem |
Subject: RE: BS: Last meal From: Allan C. Date: 14 Aug 13 - 01:04 PM At least a couple of pulled pork sandwiches - I'm talking about a pork shoulder that has been slow smoked over a hickory and apple wood fire for about twelve hours. Then it is hand pulled - as with two forks - none of that chopped crap that many restaurants try to give ya. Pile the pork onto a sliced, hard-crusted Kaiser roll and top with a sweet/hot barbeque sauce. On the side I'll have a "wilted lettuce" salad made with fresh bib lettuce mixed with some baby spinach. This should be made with apple-smoked bacon. Finish this with some of Mom's Chocolate Marvel pie. And follow it all with a snifter or two of the best Napoleon brandy. |
Subject: RE: BS: Last meal From: gnu Date: 14 Aug 13 - 01:45 PM Ed... a pub here in Moncton used to (I haven't been to a pub in well over 10 years) serve fried mussels and they were far better than fried clams. Gave up eating mussels after the tainted mussel scare... a couple of elderly people died and some people suffered seriuos early dimentia, ie, memory loss. Of course, the time is nearing when neither will be of consequence for me and I'll be back at Cheers Tavern fer a BIG feed. I think it's on... oh... you know... the street with the fire department on it... down near Rinzler's Meat Market... wait... yeah... in back of Rinzler's somewhere. Oh crap! I was right close today and forgot to go to Rinzler's for carrots and onions on sale. No... no... that was last week. Hmmmmm. I must check the fridge and see if I went to Rinzler's and got carrots and onions last week. And then to Sobeys and get some mussels. |
Subject: RE: BS: Last meal From: Joe_F Date: 14 Aug 13 - 03:41 PM Hey, I forgot the booze. A $10 bottle of red wine. |
Subject: RE: BS: Last meal From: GUEST,Ed T Date: 15 Aug 13 - 03:16 PM You got me craving scallops Gnu. Yes, I paid almost sixteen dollars a pound - but they were fresh off the truck. At least there are no shells and all meat (lobster are only about 20 to 25 percent meat, the rest is shells and water). |
Subject: RE: BS: Last meal From: gnu Date: 15 Aug 13 - 05:48 PM Ed... that's why I only buy lobster on Mother's and Father's Days, at Kissmeass and at midnight onthe wharf. >;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Last meal From: Suzy Sock Puppet Date: 15 Aug 13 - 06:24 PM Ok. Provided I don't know it's my last meal and God happens to time it so that I don't actually know it's my last meal (in which case I couldn't eat): My brother-in-law's Italian restaurant, "Michael's." Beef tenderloin and mushrooms in Michael's wine sauce, with the french fried onions on top, and a side of spaghetti with Michael's AWESOME Italian "gravy." Salad with Michael's house dressing. Red wine. With Michael's grand player piano in the background, playing beautifully whatever... Maybe I should start ordering a lobster tail with that. Just in case. |
Subject: RE: BS: Last meal From: GUEST Date: 15 Aug 13 - 06:53 PM It was good. Flour dusted, cooked in olive oil and a small amount of butter and black pepper.Removed them once cooked brown, and then cooked PEI mushrooms in the reserve and added sherry and sea salt to the 'shrooms. I steamed fresh yellow string beans from my garden. On the side were small boiled new Annopolis valley potatoes with home made green tomato chow-chow on top. Yummy. I had blueberry pie with French vanilla icecream and a margarita to finish. A good last meal contender. |

Subject: RE: BS: Last meal From: GUEST,eldergirl Date: 17 Aug 13 - 11:49 AM Thinking about Velveeta: on the pack it says Velveeta Cheese Food, right? So proper cheese has to feed on Velveeta to become respectably matured? That's always baffled me. Last meal, now.. My Mum's Spag Bol, wit grated mature Cheddar on top, followed by my Mum-in-law's Xmas Snowball Pudding. And a bottle of Asti, I think. HIC. |
Subject: RE: BS: Last meal From: gnu Date: 17 Aug 13 - 04:09 PM SSP... yer gonna get baked if ya partake of any samples of Bobert's culinary delights. |
Subject: RE: BS: Last meal From: Suzy Sock Puppet Date: 18 Aug 13 - 03:58 PM I was mentioning on another thread, the current research on medicinal marijuana. It's looking more and more like this other component known as CBD (as opposed to THC) is the true medicinal component. So then, the "high" would be more a side effect of the medicine. Now they are trying to cultivate strains that are low in THC and high in CBD as small children prone to seizures are actually benefitting from this. Truthfully, a reduction in THC does not bother me at all. I joke about it but in reality I don't smoke anymore because the stuff they are producing these days is just too strong for me. My friend Doug says the same thing and we were both potheads back in high school. Back in the day, it was a relaxant, now it's like a stimulant. No way. Coffee's bad enough. |
Subject: RE: BS: Last meal From: Suzy Sock Puppet Date: 18 Aug 13 - 04:29 PM Here's the article. This is amazing: http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/07/health/charlotte-child-medical-marijuana?c=&page=1 |
Subject: RE: BS: Last meal From: gnu Date: 19 Aug 13 - 02:12 PM SSP.... saw that on FB. Cool! I hope they get this to market without interference from Big Drugs. Big Drugs have just made medical weed in Canada go from $0 to $28k per year. It's shameful! Steven Harper (PM) is a cruel, cruel man... no, Ahole. I am ashamed he is a Canuck. He should be cut up and used for lobster bait, if they would eat him, as he is lower than a bottom feeder. |
Subject: RE: BS: Last meal From: GUEST,SSP Date: 19 Aug 13 - 02:31 PM gnu, that is just so wrong! I listen to the Canadian news on NPR regularly- "As It Happens" with Carol Off and Jeff Douglas. It sounds like the US and Canada have the same kinds of problems. |
Subject: RE: BS: Last meal From: Ebbie Date: 19 Aug 13 - 03:42 PM Back when I still smoked cigarettes, my favorite meal was chicken livers, fried crisp outside and velvety inside, a large mound of cottage cheese and steamed asparagus (strangely enough, I wasn't fat then). To that, today, I would add sauteed mushrooms and a side of deviled eggs. Alongside that I would have a small bottle of cabernet sauvignon. Yep. That would do it for me. |
