Damn it...This computer is still screwing up. Uncle Joe passed into a coma this day, he is not expected to awaken.

Dear Mikal,

Thanks for letting us know. I am so sorry. As my dad, who is 82, reminded me when I saw him last week, passing on is something we all have to do; it's just so hard for those left behind.

You will be on my list and remembered in my morning and evening meditations, as will your family and your Uncle Joe. I had a beloved Uncle Joe, too.

As you probably know my mom passed away last January; she was THE matriarch and it has been difficult this year. if you ever need to *cybertalk*, please don't hesitate to leave me a message.

Do you have a request for a favourite song we could all sing when thinking of your dear uncle?

BSeed: Yes, I have been out of it for a while. Joe had his first stroke last month. The successive ones nearly killed him. In the end, this last one left him in a coma. There is no hope.

Katlaughing, et al who asked: I dropped out last summer when my best friend, David, was diagnosed with liver cancer, and went through the long, slow decline and death. I was there for him, like I will be for Joe.

Sorry for bringing this to this thread, but I hesitate to open another thread. If I happen to disappear, how will anybody know about that ? Did the creators of the cyber communities know that some day, some remote place, someone who was a cyberfriend will die, and nobody will know, unless his/her relatives dig into the postings, and take the trouble to contact all people in the address books, etc.? There should be a program for reporting such natural and unavoidable events.

Escamillo, good question and idea. The only solution I've thought of, for myself, is to leave instructions for my family to post to the Mudcat and my email list. With three children who are well-versed in computers and Rog, who KNOWS how much you all mean to me and who also knows how to post, I feel confident they will comply.

Mikal - maybe you and some of your relatives can still do a recording "in memoriam". This could prove to be a very healing process -- not least of all that it would give you a process for remembering the good memories of your Uncle Joe - and also give you something that could be shared with new friends and younger members of the family who never knew him "when".

This isn't "Mikal", it's his brother, Dan.

Mike is at the hospital. He has been sitting with Joe for the last three hours. Every once in a while he whill sing something softly to the old man.

He wanted somehow to tell you how much your letters have meant to him. So I took the time to turn on his computer and guess what the home page is?

Well, if "Mikal" dies, we will definitely know where to post it!

All of our family appreciate your prayers. If you would like to sing something for Joe, his favorite was "A Cup to the Company".

Thank you, Dan, that's what good brothers are for! Nice image, that, of Mikal singing to your uncle. Hearing is the last sense to go. I am sure on some level Joe hears and feels some peace.
