Subject: Origins: Jez Lowe re couple dance Xmas Eve
From: G-Force
Date: 03 Jan 18 - 08:55 AM

I remember a song from way back that Jez wrote. Might have been written about Christmas and believe it was about a couple away from home (possibly West Indian?) who dance to old songs on their record player which makes them feel less homesick. It was a good many years ago and we don't seem to have it on vinyl or cd so it might have been on a tape, which of course we no longer have. Forgive me if I've mis-remembered some of the details but it was definitely by Jez Lowe as I complimented him about it when he was a guest at the White Horse Festival at Grove a long time ago.

Would be really grateful if anyone who can help with this search: name of the song and which album it was on.

Many thanks

I think it might be Gramophone Dancing from Wotcheor! (2010) by Jez Lowe and the Bad Pennies. 2010 is not so long ago so Jez might have re-recorded it or only just got round to it by then!

The couple in the song are Mr & Mrs Patel who Jez describes as "Hindu and homesick"

Available on Amazon & iTunes.

From the listing on Jez's site:

GRAMOPHONE DANCING – 3.33 (J.Lowe / Lowelife Music) Jez – Vocals, guitar / Kate – violin / Andy – Piano / David – Bass / Hinny – Violin

Christmas through the eyes of immigrant shopkeepers from India, who came to make their home and their living in North East England back in the 1960’s

You're welcome, G-Force. It's a charming song I wouldn't have come across if not for your query!
