Subject: RE: BS: Alfie Evans From: Senoufou Date: 24 Apr 18 - 10:36 AM Hello there Mike, I think everyone feels disturbed by this case, just as they did when Charlie Gard was in Great Ormond Street Hospital. Alfie's father is only 21, and his mother 20. So young to be having to cope with all this. They're little more than children themselves, and have naively been swept up in the hype (as you say) generated by the Internet and social media. One can only sympathise, and hope they can weather this somehow. |
Subject: RE: BS: Alfie Evans From: punkfolkrocker Date: 24 Apr 18 - 10:31 AM Italy and the pope can make all sorts of cynical populist PR stunt gestures, safe in the knowledge this poor kid probably wouldn't survive the journey from Alder Hey ...??? |
Subject: RE: BS: Alfie Evans From: Senoufou Date: 24 Apr 18 - 10:28 AM The thing is, both the Pope (in giving the poor parents utterly false hope of a 'cure') and Alfies' Army (in vociferously clamouring for doctors to 'do something' and accusing Alder Hey of being 'murderers') are interfering with his parents' need to somehow accept the situation, and to spend the little boys' last hours/days sitting quietly at his bedside. When the end comes, all they will remember will be the aggravation, the Press, the threats to staff, and they will have persuaded themselves that 'if only' they'd been allowed to take the child abroad he'd have been cured. Agree with Iains that these disruptive demonstrations near a hospital should be addressed vigorously by the Police. Disturbing the Peace etc. surely? |
Subject: RE: BS: Alfie Evans From: MikeL2 Date: 24 Apr 18 - 10:24 AM Hi Sen Yes a very disturbing case. On the one hand I understand the parents' position but I feel that they have become involved in the hype that is being created. This is not good for Alfie nor the other babies in the hospital. Let the little boy pass away in peace. Regards Mike |

Subject: RE: BS: Alfie Evans From: Iains Date: 24 Apr 18 - 10:05 AM I can feel for the parents, but the doctors are best equipped to judge. Protest within 1 mile of a hospital should be made a criminal offence. |
Subject: BS: Alfie Evans From: Senoufou Date: 24 Apr 18 - 09:41 AM I've been following this tragic case for some time now, and am appalled at the circus it has become. 'Alfie's Army' is disrupting the entire hospital of Alder Hey and distressing the other patients and their families. Very similar to the Charlie Gard case. However, I can also understand the utter despair and fierce determination of his poor parents. The picture of his father today was heart-breaking, he looks so thin and haggard, and no wonder. As in Charlie's predicament, the Pope has got involved and offered 'treatment' in Rome, and has even given Alfie Italian citizenship to enable him to be brought there. But as far as I understand, Alder Hey specialists have emphasised there can be no hope and the child will never survive. His brain is totally irreparable. They've now removed ventilating intubation and amazingly Alfie is still breathing. But this will apparently not last. Anyone else disturbed by this sad situation, and by the awful behaviour and ignorance shown by the 'Army'? |
