I've had to round up the new dog toys; Pepper had a hidden trait we didn't see till now—she doesn't share toys well. She'll play, but then it becomes hyper-real and she hunkers down, hoarding them, and she had the puppy squealing bloody murder this afternoon. One more episode and that was enough, they're all bagged and on top of the refrigerator.

Did I mention I have sprained right foot (Podiatrist visit this past Monday), a visit to the dentist today (cleaning, etc. with a bigger thing later this month), an ultrasound tomorrow, a dexascan (bone density) next Monday, and a CT scan next Wednesday? And this coming Saturday we'll be hosting a memorial service at our house for a friend who died whilst we were in Ireland?

I'm the heartless owner of a Havahart trap, in which I catch mice (they go into a tall bucket of water) or toads (they are released). Mom wants to use salami to bait it, I've been using peanut butter. Since we're in the city and they're so small, there is no lead in use, just water.

Always ask first if you can pet a service animal; that said, there are a lot of bogus "service" animals out there in public with people these days. They can buy the bibs on Amazon and they don't train their dogs to even fake being well-behaved.

And that said, I have a puppy who chews lots of stuff and has to do regular cooling-down periods in her crate, though today one of the big dogs was egging her on. Pepper was squeaking Cookie's toy and not letting Cookie have it when she pulled on it (they usually do) and Cookie in return jumped all over Zeke and bit at his poor tender ears. He doesn't cry often, but he complained about that treatment of his velvety ears. Cookie is in time out right now but the toy is in with her so I'm hearing lots of squeaking. MOM took a bottle of Scotch and a glass and headed out onto the porch.

Mom, I escaped from Indiana and I'm HOME!! Tired, and my coat has bullet holes from where the guards shot at me, but I escaped more or less unharmed. It's a good thing we had pre-purchased airplane tickets or they would have taken me at the ticket counter. But I fooled 'em and got home with little or no mishap. Oh, sure, I did have to take out that one guard but he was less than six feet eight inches and didn't really count. Now I must go upstairs and get a very small percentage of the total laundry out of the dryer.

I met an acquaintance who has a service dog.
Big strapping young male black Labrador Retriever, the dog is.

I guess I am an evil influence on dogs like this one.
When I greeted man and dog,

who had his service-dog harness on.

The new dog is starting to fit in as far as the other two are concerned, but she still has a long way to go as far as growing up and not chewing up everything around the house. MOM had to lock up all of her shoes after a right shoe and a left shoe of two different pairs were destroyed and she decided to wear the remaining shoes out in public. A Cole Haan loafer and a Jimmy Choo high heel look strange together.

We are just over an hour into the integration of a new boxer/pitbull puppy into the household. The Blue Heeler is jealous, the Labrador retriever doesn't care. The puppy is rolling over for everyone and has already snagged her collar on the drawer pull in the kitchen, in the nick of time I was able to avoid tragic consequences of that. MOM says she doesn't want dogs on the furniture but I think she's going to be busy trying to keep this one off.

I had two trees cut down last weekend; one was a very large pine in the front yard that I didn't want to fall on the house in a windstorm, the other was a vitex (purple chaste) in the back yard managing to grow into all of the power lines and cables (I thought I'd put it far enough away - who knew?)

Two different artists have stopped by the house asking for pieces of the pine at the curb (waiting for trash pickup). One is a blacksmith who needs it next to his anvil, the other has a daughter who makes glass art and she needs the chunks of wood as bases to mount her rods that support her glass. MOM was so tickled to see the blacksmith; he arrived via skateboard (he lives 2 blocks up the hill from here) - he shifted a very large piece (24" tall by about 16" across) onto the skateboard and took off pushing it up the hill.

I was reading the Fairbanks, Alaska newspaper over the weekend (don't ask me why, it just strikes my fancy) and they did an article about local gardens, and I noticed they all had that high-quality almost clear panels, sometimes just around the sides, and others of them completely over the top. I can't find it now, and it might have been a video in a story that I'm thinking of. Pretty interesting, the growing season is shorter but the days are so much longer they get some pretty good crops.

Actually, we have a small greenhouse whose frame is made of PVC. It's an octagonal dome we call "The Igloo". (My wife dreams up weird projects and then makes me figure out how to build them.)

We also have a much larger greenhouse made from the tubular steel frame of an old 10' X 20' portable garage.

Both are currently covered with screen cloth for shade and insect control. The clear plastic will go on around Halloween.

I'm going to be reinforcing the ceilings in a hall and at least one room, to be safe rather than sorry. The tape lines have pulled as the house shifts on this dodgy foundation. MOM says it's because of all of the holes the dogs have dug in the back yard, but it wasn't the case. They did make an unlevel mess of the PVC greenhouse out back, digging under one end of it.

We're gonna have to throw a little party here - Pepper tested negative for heartworm today! I brought her home in June 2018 and we were using the "slow kill" method that the shelter uses on any of it's HW positive dogs. It worked and now she's free to race around to her heart's content. MOM needs to run by Cabela's and buy her a new bumper, the old ones are pretty torn up.

BWL, It's a testament to your big heart in not holding your injuries and recuperation against the happy pooch. Same here with Zeke - accidents happen and we learn to watch out for the dog direction of travel that sometimes illustrate too well the Newton's law of motion, where the acceleration of a smaller solid body colliding with a larger human body results in the transfer of energy and your sudden acceleration to the ground.

If we ever get our hands on MOM MOAB, there are some great dog stories, and one of the funniest I've ever read was BWL describing the neighbor trying to find his dog.
