As a Canadian, I have no objection to Americans calling themselves Americans. It's what I call you, after all. I do hate hearing Canadians refer to the US as "America" - but nobody seems to care what I think, so ... tough noogies for me!

To be honest, Joe, I am one hundred percent certain that Bill didn't mean to attack Asian people via his thread title, and I'm sure that he would be perfectly happy with the edit provided. Why we dwell escapes me.

You can call me a Brit if you like. I'm totally insensitive. It seems to me that some of you yanks have this weirdly vague flag-allegiance thang that causes you to bristle if someone calls you yank, merkin or the like. It honestly doesn't matter. It could even be a term of endearment, as is, in Australia, "G'day, you old bastard!" However, if I call you a hillbilly or a backwoodsman, you may assume that I don't like you...

I'm sure you're right that Mossback didn't mean to attack Asian people. But so far, all attempts to replace "American" with a better word, have come out awkward. I'm still waiting for a solution.
    -Joe-

I've heard various attempts to refer to people in the United States without calling them "Americans," and I see wisdom in those attempts. I hadn't heard the term USasian before. I thought it had something to do with Asian-Americans, but the Urban Dictionary says it is
A derogatory word for a citizen of the USA. Usually reserved for red-necks or members of the far right Repubublican party.Originates in the U.K.
Amurkin has an even more interesting (and more credible) definition, as does Merkun.

I admit that it might feel offensive and jingoistic to Canadians or Latin Americans to hear us claim the title of "American," but it's what has been used forever and ever - and anything else sounds awkward and overly fussy. People in the Union of South Africa have a similar problem. So, not having found a better solution, I guess I'll keep using the term "American" and not be jingoistic about it.

As for the main story, it happened at a Sanders rally in Vermont on Thursday, March 6. The CNN story says it was apparently just one crazy person, and he was kicked out of the rally. I don't know that the activity of one crazy person would make me ashamed to be an American, but it certainly is a matter for concern. I wonder how people would have reacted to a Nazi flag at a Trump rally.

Whatever the case, I'd hate to see the Sanders candidacy become a cause for anti semitism.

-Joe-

I just finished watching the 'Hunters'. A group hunting and eliminating nazi war crime monsters. (On Amazon prime video)
There is an existential danger with the nazi movement and don't think I am exaggerating.

Jack crawl back under your rock. Your closed minded arrogance will not get a free pass from more reasonable people in America.
You are the kind of coward who knows 'about' the holocaust and does not have the empathy to really see prople who have live it or lived with it. I have never seen you learn when to shut your hole.

For the record, If you make editing suggestions IN A THREAD, we probably see the problem before we read your post. So it's not helpful, except to allow people to feel like they've done something.

I read it as ‘USAian’, which is a common term for ‘American’. I didn’t even notice the small ‘s’.

Yes, and after change remove the second message which will not make sense at that point. And then this one.

Better yet, kill this thread and restart it

Especially as Sanders' family died in the Camps.

Oh, please Robo - get a grip. Nothing to do with ethnicity, just nationality; the term has been in use tongue in cheek for yonks. Would you prefer Amurkun? Yank? Colonial? Citizen Of The United States of AmeriKKKa?

Please feel free to change it via Mod if it makes you feel any better.

Cheers.

Check out how your thread title might be (hopefully) misinterpreted.

Maybe you should just be ashamed to be Mossback.

When that thread title is updated this message should be removed. Maybe the thread can be restarted more properlike.

A man high in the stands behind Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) during his Thursday night campaign rally in Phoenix surprised the crowd by unfurling a large red Nazi flag emblazoned with a swastika.

Dear God, has it come to this??

HEIL TRUMP !!
