He is stupid scary. At the southern border he asked why security guards
don't just shoot illegal immigrants in the legs. They actually had to have a doctor explain that wounding the femoral artery is fatal.

The one-third plus of the U.S. population that still thinks he's great is what's terrifying -

Drew Brees is a football player that said Blacks were direspecting the flag by taking a knee etc. He is being defended by claiming much to do with racism is UNCONSCIOUS.

"Disrespecting the flag" is straight out of Donald Trumps mouths*.

*he talks out of both sides

There are lots of stupid white people who are not truly conscious.
Are they really unconscious about choosing to hate?

African Americans attacking property because it is "owned by whites" IS also racist.

I think that is called mob rule.
We had something akin in the UK over pedophiles, and vigilantes meted out some rough justice. And it wasn't long before a pediatrician was targeted as a criminal. Vigilantyism receded swiftly thereafter.
Mobs react, they don't think. And agitators know this, and enjoy/are payed to go stirring.

It is becoming a major issue since Farage and the Tories played the race card for Brexit - the spike in racist incidents has scared even the authorities
I spent my life, from the early Civil Rights days to the Anti Apartheid Movement, George Jackson... fighting for justice somewhere else - now it's coming home to roost here
The use of Populism has let the old 'Empire Superiority' Djinn' out of its bottle big time
Racism never really went away but it was considered an institutional problem when the Stephen Laurence murder hit the headlines, now it's back big-time
The extremely rightist Daily Mail published the results of a survey not so long ago on national racism and came up with the astounding figure of a third to a quarter of those interviewed admitting that held and had expressed racist views
Without pre-empting a thread I am hoping to start, the Anti-Semitism of The Israel Governmet defending its atrocities by making criticism of it's policy "antisemitic" has painted a target on the backs of every Jew on the planet
These are dangerous days

It is eye opening to see how willing Mudcatters are willing to dicuss racism. The myriad of threads above the line regarding racism is impressive. In America the subject is difficult and in real life whites are reticent to speak about it unless thay are at either end of the spectrum of attitudes.
The demonstrations are a 9 point earthquake in the movement toward sanity. But merely gaining the right not to be murdered when black, is too little at this late date.

Sec. Mattis' letter is so eloquent, timely and scathing that it's worth posting here.

In Union There Is Strength

I have watched this week’s unfolding events, angry and appalled. The words “Equal Justice Under Law” are carved in the pediment of the United States Supreme Court. This is precisely what protesters are rightly demanding. It is a wholesome and unifying demand—one that all of us should be able to get behind. We must not be distracted by a small number of lawbreakers. The protests are defined by tens of thousands of people of conscience who are insisting that we live up to our values—our values as people and our values as a nation.

When I joined the military, some 50 years ago, I swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution. Never did I dream that troops taking that same oath would be ordered under any circumstance to violate the Constitutional rights of their fellow citizens—much less to provide a bizarre photo op for the elected commander-in-chief, with military leadership standing alongside.

We must reject any thinking of our cities as a “battlespace” that our uniformed military is called upon to “dominate.” At home, we should use our military only when requested to do so, on very rare occasions, by state governors. Militarizing our response, as we witnessed in Washington, D.C., sets up a conflict—a false conflict—between the military and civilian society. It erodes the moral ground that ensures a trusted bond between men and women in uniform and the society they are sworn to protect, and of which they themselves are a part. Keeping public order rests with civilian state and local leaders who best understand their communities and are answerable to them.

James Madison wrote in Federalist 14 that “America united with a handful of troops, or without a single soldier, exhibits a more forbidding posture to foreign ambition than America disunited, with a hundred thousand veterans ready for combat.” We do not need to militarize our response to protests. We need to unite around a common purpose. And it starts by guaranteeing that all of us are equal before the law.

Instructions given by the military departments to our troops before the Normandy invasion reminded soldiers that “The Nazi slogan for destroying us…was ‘Divide and Conquer.’ Our American answer is ‘In Union there is Strength.’” We must summon that unity to surmount this crisis—confident that we are better than our politics.

Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people—does not even pretend to try. Instead he tries to divide us. We are witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort. We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership. We can unite without him, drawing on the strengths inherent in our civil society. This will not be easy, as the past few days have shown, but we owe it to our fellow citizens; to past generations that bled to defend our promise; and to our children.

We can come through this trying time stronger, and with a renewed sense of purpose and respect for one another. The pandemic has shown us that it is not only our troops who are willing to offer the ultimate sacrifice for the safety of the community. Americans in hospitals, grocery stores, post offices, and elsewhere have put their lives on the line in order to serve their fellow citizens and their country. We know that we are better than the abuse of executive authority that we witnessed in Lafayette Square. We must reject and hold accountable those in office who would make a mockery of our Constitution. At the same time, we must remember Lincoln’s “better angels,” and listen to them, as we work to unite.

Only by adopting a new path—which means, in truth, returning to the original path of our founding ideals—will we again be a country admired and respected at home and abroad.

In my last post about the Insurrection Act of 1807 I mentioned reluctance by military to be used for domestic law enforcement. Today, the Secretary of Defense, who up to now had staunchly supported Trump policies, issued this statement: “The National Guard is best suited for performing domestic support to civil authorities in these situations in support of local law enforcement. The option to use active-duty forces in a law enforcement role should only be used as a matter of last resort and only in the most urgent and dire of situations. We are not in one of those situations now. I do not support invoking the Insurrection Act.” Trump's top aides were not amused. I expect him to be asked for his resignation soon.
If anyone reads this shortly after I post it here's a heads up. President Barrack Obama will be making a public statement shortly if you want turn om a news channel not named Fox.

Jeff Foxworthy is a comedian known for his, “You might be a redneck…” jokes. These are ours;

If you own a confederate flag you might be a racist.
If you combine the words welfare and queen you might be a racist
If you lock your car doors only upon seeing a black person you might..
If you ever shot a black person you might be a racist

“You might be a racist” if you use your power to establish systems, rules, practices, or laws that support your beliefs that people of other races are inferior. Consequently, when you hear the words “systemic racism” it is because racism still persists across systems such as government, insurance, education, finance, criminal justice, etc. In America, white people are the dominant group controlling positions of authority across most systems, so it is technically incorrect to call a person of color a “racist”, because of their position/lack of power to establish/maintain racist practices within systems.

“You might be a bigot” if you are completely intolerant, and devoted to your own opinions and prejudices such that you treat members of other groups with hatred and intolerance.

“You might be prejudiced” if you have a feeling for or against something or someone without any good reason. For example, if you feel that a certain group is inferior or bad because of their religion, gender, race, etc., but you really don’t know anyone from that group or much about them, then you are prejudiced.

“You might discriminate” if you have strong prejudicial or bigoted feelings about an individual or group and treat them unequally or unfairly due to their individual or group membership.

“You might be biased” if you have a preference that keeps you from making a fair judgement. For example, it could be as simple as a bias for vanilla over strawberry ice cream or as harmful as an employer preferring men over women or a realtor preferring white people to people of color.

Archie Bunker, of the 1970’s sitcom “All In the Family,” was openly prejudiced, biased, and generally considered to be a bigot. The show became a “safe place” to spark discussions on a number of race related issues, using humor to “ease” the conversations. Unfortunately, there is no humor in what is happening in the current political climate. As we endure the next 70 or so days, I’m deeply concerned about the post-election environment that is being created in our country by the use of harmful and inflammatory rhetoric.

No racism is justifiable,
though it is understandable when victimised folks fight back fire with fire..
But that kind of racist response is still wrong..

There will always be collateral damage and injustice in these extreme circumstances...

If we are to discuss racism one should be clear. One should be Honest and one should not call the kettle black and denigrate. was that racist?

Racism must have existed before the Neanderthals. Animals practicing animal racism is unclear to me but I know the ant insect world engages in race wars.
Whites in the US are the racists I know best. A response to white racists by the victims of that racism is not racism. but this is an opinion board.

Donuel said: He can't issue an order to have the Army to attack the demonstrators and or looters due to the Posse Comitas law. Unfortunately, not true. After the greatly muddled election of 1876, we still have no idea who really won, a compromise was made to put Hayes in office. In return for southern delegates Hayes withdrew all federal troops from Southern states, effectively ending Reconstruction. With southern politicians back in charge they tried to return as much as possible to the "good ol' days". Of course. the 13th amendment kept them from bringing back chattel slavery, but sharecropping scams, prison farms and vagrancy laws created new forms of forced labor that lasted well into the 20th century. As southern politicians returned to the U S Congress they pushed through Posse Comitatus to prevent military interference with these policies. This law did not keep Eisenhower from using the military to desegregate southern schools in the 1950s because one of several limitations to Posse Comitatus is Federal troops used in accordance to the Insurrection Act. Bottom line is that the Comitatus law is superseded by the Insurrection Act of 1807.
Most presidents have avoided this option for many reasons, not least of which is that the military is not trained in law enforcement and crowd control and is reluctant to square off against U S citizens. The last time troops were used in this regard were the Rodney King riots in L A in 1992 after Bush was asked for assistance by the governor. Using Armed Forces for policing without the consent of a state governor would have such a stench of autocracy that most presidents simply wouldn't consider it, but we all know that Trump doesn't care.

There is antifa and there is antifa.
One is anti fascist and the other is anti facts.
On Inauguration day Trump blamed antifa for one broken window and dozens were charged for rioting. We all know about Trump's anti facts and alternative truth.

In this time of cold truth war we are all vulnerable believing almost anything. All I have is 'what is more likely possible' and that too is untrustworthy.    So I choose to believe both boogymen exist.

It would be possible for Trump to anonymously make himself president of antifa and and stir the pot (a trick he did before in 'call in' shows back in NYC.)   In short nothing is as it seems but crime is going big time.

A bit establishment PFR
Trump's type of misrepresentation of vigorous demonstrating as "rioting" is as old as public demonstration itself
Anyboy who has been on a demonstration knows the latest hostility emanating from those there to keep the peace
I haven't been on a demo since I marched in protest at the closure of our local A and E here in our market town, but the last time I felt this hatred was when we attended The Notting Hill Carnival when a black friend offered two policemen a share of his locally-bought kebab
Peaceful demonstrations ended around the time youngsters got the shit kicked out of them outside the Greek Embassy when the Colonels were in control
I think Steve Shaw knew Blair Peach - go dig him up and ask nim how his headache is after having en killed after having his head rammed into the corner point of two walls by two jolly London Bobbies
ASK THIS LADY ABOUT PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATIONS
Public demonstrations were really never more than paying lip-service to democracy - now that is have all but gone because people are automatically give "mob" instead of "demonstrator"
It's a bit like the rem "terrorist" - adaptable
