Seems the song origin was (partially) clarified in This thread
I think Manchester came out ahead there.

And (DtG) it appears to be 'Pomona' not 'Pamona'. Spelling always helps when searching for an earlier ref.
Cheers

”Lamorna Devon? Not so! Lamorna is a village in West Cornwall (the gorgeous Lamorna Cove is nearby, between Mousehole and Porthcurno).”

Well thanks for clarifying that, Steve! My misconception was due to the builders of my guitar telling me that all of their instruments are named after Devon waterways, although where/how I made the Barnstaple connection is a mystery to me - I’m guessing I’d drawn it from a conversation at some time or other.

Whatever, the guitar was built at the Brook Guitars’ workshop at Easterbrook, nr. Hittisleigh, Devon - I know for sure that I’m correct on that because I’ve been there, stayed overnight at the pub in Spreyton, spent the next morning at the workshop while the guys did some work on my guitar. It’s a beautiful instrument.

St Just to Larmona, Cornwall - 8.6 miles

Albert Square to Pomona Gardens, Manchester - 1.5 miles

(St) Just saying...

:D

Lamorna Devon? Not so! Lamorna is a village in West Cornwall (the gorgeous Lamorna Cove is nearby, between Mousehole and Porthcurno). The Albert Square in the song has been claimed for Manchester, but we in Kernow hotly dispute this: there's an Albert Square in the nearby town of St Just-in Penrith. It's all not far from the G7, though I doubt that Joe Biden and Boris Johnson will be doing a turn in the Star Inn in St Just, quite likely the best-known session pub in Cornwall...

Yes, Lamora is that well known typo but it was not the press that got that one wrong, it was me :-( Mea Culpa

The Lamorna is a river in Devon, flows into the Bristol Channel, I believe, near Barnstaple. I have a Brook ‘Lamorna’ guitar, built in Devon and named after the river - it’s a beautiful-looking and -sounding instrument.

Now back to the thread topic….

The story in "Lamorna" is of two people out to trick each other in different ways.
Could be appropriate?

Robin

To give this a more folkie flavour, I have just read that local shanty group "Bhyer's Boys" will entertain the world leaders with the traditional Cornish sea shanty "Lamora".

It's just a shame that Lamora is neither traditional, Cornish nor a sea shanty :-D It started life as a Music Hall song from Manchester - Pamona.

It was quite an endearing sight to see Jill Biden and Carrie Johnson walking barefoot on the beach with baby Wilfred. I'm not usually interested in such things but I must say it made a pleasant change from all the bad news :-)

I don't know if I feel sorry for or jealous of Joachim Sauer. The only bloke amongst all those ladies. I wonder how he responds whenever anyone says that behind every successful man there is a good woman?

I just read an article about Jill Biden participating in some events with Joe (two meetings with the queen and "will Jill be too casual?" questions and a reminder that Michelle Obama put her arm around Liz's shoulders at one point, and got a reciprocal hug around the waist). The nonsense people have to get up to to meet that particular figurehead.

Dr. Biden is also meeting with various groups that support military families, an ongoing interest of hers. She and Prince Harry have been friends for years since she attended the Invictis Games a number of times over the years and they co-sponsored a US/UK walk here; perhaps the two of them are exchanging texts about this trip. :)

It's good to hear all the talk from Biden about alliances rather than the nationalistic drivel that came out of the turnip. It's very weird to hear Johnson talk of alliances while most people can still remember his nationalistic drivel about Europe. What are the chances of Putin playing along and dropping his version of nationalism?

Shall we try again? The snotty unnecessary remark (and a couple of responses edited out with a very light hand) and the bad poetry are gone.

I'm listening to news stories about all of the hacking that is coming out of Russia these days (there was a long discussion on Fresh Air today called Inner Workings Of DarkSide Cybergang Reveal It's Run Like Any Other Business. I'd hope that part of that muscle flexing has to do with addressing this kind of crime.

Trump trashed so many international alliances and was so focused on what all of these countries could do for him (host his golf courses and hotels?) that I think everyone still has a bad taste in their mouths. Biden as the clean up crew has to not only do the forward thinking things of a president, but the repairs from the last one.

What a coincidence. I got chance to order 6 decent wines from Naked for £20 and one of them is Portuguese Montaria. Looking forward to trying it.

Dick, if you hadn't noticed Steve and I know each other pretty well and I knew he would see the funny side. Your post was not only provocative but also completely pointless.

Now, back to G7. Anyone but Steve got anything sensible to add?

Fortunately for me and my logistical requirements, the action is at the other end of the county. Cornwall is long, thin at one end and thick at the other, and the G7 gang are meeting at the thin end, whereas Bude is at the thick end. There are thousands of cops in St Ives/Carbis Bay, in an area that doesn't even have its own police station, and Cornish people are not used to road blocks and coppers carrying weapons. I'll be steering clear, though my daughter does live a lot closer to proceedings, in Truro. The weather is damp, murky and muggy today, not Cornwall at its best, so a few of the dignitaries may be somewhat unimpressed. However, a barbecue weekend is forecast. I've laid in a supply of the sensationally good Portuguese red wine from Morrison's, Cidade Branca, currently £6.50, Dave...

What will come out of the meetings is probably less important than the bigwigs actually getting together in person and seeing that other countries are run by similarly vulnerable and imperfect human beings. As Dave says, progress on the climate emergency would be good (I was on the A30 near Launceston this morning and the banners were up on the flyovers). They'll have their own agendas, of course, and, as Maggie Thatcher once famously said, will not be wanting to go naked into the negotiating chamber. Whilst the very last thing I would ever have wanted to see was a tits-out Thatcher, it might actually have been quite a good idea...

There will be an attempt to mend NATO alliances. How it is recieved is important.

Anyone any thoughts on it?

Couple of things I have spotted. Biden seems to be flexing his muscles a bit. Understandable as it is the first time has has been in such a position. Good luck to him as long as he does not overdo it!

If anything to fix global companies taxation comes out of it it will be good. Even better if they get an agreement on controling climate change.

I know it is in the UK but mods please note - This is not UK politics! Well, unless Steve Shaw gets stuck in all the road blocks :-D
