Today's Guardian has a full-page feature on Irish folk band The Mary Wallopers. It says one of their favourite songs is Hamish Imlach's "Cod-liver Oil and the Orange Juice", which it says is about a man from Brighton. The character actually comes from Bridgeton, pronounced in the song (and generally in Glasgow) Brigton, an area in Glasgow's east end.

Typical, the song was written by(Ron Clark / Carl McDougall, not Hamish Imlach.

Brigton -> Brighton: that looks to me like it was done by an overzealous profreeder, or a spielchequer (much the same difference, esp in the Grauniad).

It is important that song writers are credited, after all there would be no song withuout them, Hamish pppopularised it, there is another different wonderful song by the flanagan brothers called cod liver oil, which can be heard here at ITMA IT WAS WRITTEN BY CHARLES BENDER
https://www.itma.ie/digital-library/sound/cid-230499.
there seems to be a lot of ignorance on this forum, one suggestion that Rees Mogg was a leader of an extreme right wing racist party. REES MOGG is a Conservative mp, who has never led any party, he claims to be a christian, but IMO worships Mamman

Saw that this morning. Emailed the Guardian corrections and now they've changed it to Brigton. Which is still wrong, actually, as it's spelled Bridgeton, although often pronounced mair like Brigton.

Ronnie Clarke and Carl McDougall were waiting for the late night bus in George Square when they were motivated to compose this song!

(Ronnie telt us the story o' it at The Glasgow Ballad Workshop, which he founded along with Gordeanna McCulloch and Anne Neilson and I think Adam McNaughtan - he has certainly been part o' it since inception!)
Yes Hamish Imlach picked up the song and many folks learned it frae him - but many ithers o' us learned it frae ither sources and huv been singin' it under oor ain steam!

Hamish was a great inspiration to Christy Moore, although I don't think he ever sang the song in question.

I remeber him telling of his sadness the news of Hamish's death when I was supporting him at a concert in deBarra's in Clonakilty in the 90s. I thought at first he was referring to Hamish Henderson, but no....
