The tune for the "Hot nuts hot nuts, get 'em from the peanut man" chorus
is the chorus of "Ja-Da (Ja Da, Ja Da, Jing, Jing, Jing!)".

This tune is used with other bawdy songs: Sarah, Sarah, Sitting in a Shoe Shine Shop,
Matches & BVDs, and S-C-R-O-T-U-M.

KELSEY'S
(Ben Smith)

Now momma said my darling
Go to the store for me
Get some eggs and butter
Some coffee and some tea
Drive the flivver slowly
Don't play into all the ruts
And stop at Kelsey's delicatessen
And get some salted nuts

Kelsey's nuts are sweetest
Sweetest nuts in town
Kelsey's nuts are neatest
When toasted crisp and brown
Some say there hot when they're cold.
But I don't say that they're not
Just try a couple of Kelsey's nuts
And try them while they're hot.

Say when Kelsey's nuts are cold
They're just like fridgeaire
Kelsey's nuts are like rat traps
They catch you unaware.
Duly examination to camels
Down to their butts (?)
And every night they say a prayer
For a couple of Kelsey's nuts.

Kelsey's nuts are sweetest
The sweetest nuts in town
Kelsey's nuts are neatest
When toasted crisp and brown
Some say there best when cold.
But I'll say they're not
Just try a couple of Kelsey's nuts
And try them while they're hot
What I mean.

September 12, 1933. Washboard Rhythm Kings. Vocal refrain by Ted
Tinsley. Matrix BS-77809, 78 record, recorded 9/12/1933. This was
also titled "Kelsey's Nuts" on the Bluebird label.

HOT PEANUTS

Henry Lee, from Tennessee,
Was nothing but a business man
And at business he was grand;
He bought himself a peanut stand;
Henry Lee was every wise,
One of those guys that loves to advertise,
So when you'd pass him by,
You'd hear Henry cry:

Hot nuts, hot nuts,
Does anybody here want hot nuts?
Hot nuts, hot nuts,
I'm telling you, they're grand;
Go get them hot, the way you should,
'Cause we all know, cold nuts are no good,
Hot nuts, hot nuts,
Go get them from the peanut man.

Hot nut, hot nuts,
I'm telling you they're grand;
Go get them from the peanut man,
'Cause that's what makes the peanut stand.
You ask me why the whistle blew;
If you had hot nuts you'd whistle too;
Hot nuts, hot nuts,
Go get them from the peanut man.

Get 'Em From The Peanut Man (Hot Nuts)
(Johnson)

Selling nuts! Hot nuts!
Anybody here wanna buy my nuts?
Selling nuts! Hot nuts!
I've got nuts for sale.

One for five, two for ten.
If you buy 'em once,
You'll buy 'em again.
Selling nuts! Hot nuts!
You buy 'em from the peanut man.

Nuts! Hot nuts!
Anybody here wanna buy my nuts?
Selling nuts! Hot nuts!
I've got nuts for sale.

They tell me your nuts is mighty fine,
But I bet your nuts isn't hot as mine.
Selling nuts! Hot nuts!
You buy 'em from the peanut man.

Selling nuts! Hot nuts!
Anybody here want to buy my nuts?
Selling nuts! Hot nuts!
I've got nuts for sale.

They tell me that man's nuts is mighty small.
Best to have small nuts than to have no nuts at all!
Selling nuts! Hot nuts!
You buy 'em from the peanut man.

Hot Nuts!
Peanuts!
Nuts, cheap!
Nuts!

Selling nuts! Hot nuts!
Anybody here wanna buy some nuts?
Selling nuts! Hot nuts!
I've got nuts for sale.

You see that man all dressed in brown?
He's got the hottest nuts in town!
Selling nuts! Hot nuts!
You buy 'em from the peanut man.

Nuts! Hot nuts!
Anybody here want to buy my nuts?
Selling Nuts! Hot nuts!
I've got nuts for sale.

When a hog get hungry,
He began to grunt.
When a man get hungry,
He began to hunt.
Hot nuts.
Hot nuts!
You buy 'em from the peanut man.

I'm going to have Mr. Poe sing a little number that was
written by a young chap. The only number that he ever
wrote. But he happened to be called away in the great American
army to fight for his country and upon leaving he dedicated
the little number to his sweetheart a very beautiful number
titled "I Can't Leave Her Behind Alone".
Henry Lee, from Tennessee,
Was nothing but a business man
At business he was grand;
So he bought himself a peanut stand;
At selling peanuts Henry was every wise,
He was one of those guys who love to advertise,
Now when you'd pass him by,
You'd hear Henry cry:

Hot nuts, hot nuts,
Now does anybody here want hot peanuts?
Hot nuts, hot nuts,
I'm telling you, they're grand.
Go get them hot, the way you should,
'Cause you all know cold nuts are no good,
Hot nuts, hot nuts,
Get them from the peanut man.

Go get them from the peanut man,
'Cause that's what makes the peanut stand.
Hot nut, hot nuts,
Get them from the peanut man.
Now folks, you ask me why the whistle blew;
If you had hot nuts you'd whistle too;
Hot nuts, hot nuts,
Get them from the peanut man.

1940s. Blank 78 record. Attributed to Fred Shaw. The singer
is a "Mr. Poe". The text is very similar to printed version
in The "Wrecks" (1934)

Hot Nuts (part one)

Spoken: In the garden of Eden stood Eve & Adam
Stroking the loins of his madam
He smiled and with mirth
Because he knew that on earth
There were only two nuts and he had 'em

If any young girls in here my as well start walking
My friend Johnny is likely to do some fancy talking

Nuts!
Hot nuts!
You get'em from the peanut man
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Nuts!
Hot Nuts!
You get'em anywhere every you can.

You see that man all dressed in brown
He's got the hottest nuts in town

The fat man there standing tall
Tell me he aint got no nuts at all.

Now the girl over there dressed in green
She lost her quarter in the bathroom machine

The cool guy there who's name is Harry
He's got nuts but he's still a fairy

Now you hear our drummer going [tap tap]
I bet you five dollars he's got the [clap clap]

I got some in the kitchen, I got some in the hall,
I got some on my finger and I wiped it down the wall.

Well I got some in a Cadillac and I got some in a Ford
But the best I had was on the running board.

I got some in the sunshine, I got some in the rain
But the best I had was on a choo-choo-train.

The guy over there is a PiGam
Now he's got nuts but they ain't worth a damn.

See that girl her name is Pearl
She cracked so many nuts we call her squirrel.

Now you see that girl wearing the slacks?
She shacks!

Well bob-a-bob-a-loo-bob ju-bob-a-bam
They won't stay hot, I just don't give a damn

Not Nuts (Part 2)

Spoken: Ah, yes, here we are again. Once again we
are going to bring out Doug Clark and his hot nuts
and more nuts to you

Nuts!
Hot nuts!
You get 'em from the peanut man
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Hot Nuts!
You get 'em anywhere every you can.

Now this guy Bill is a DKE
His nuts are so long they hang below his knee

Me and my girl we went on a hunt
I didn't shoot nutten so she gave me some smiles

The little red rooster said the little yellow duck
You ain't good looking but you sure can fight.

Now the girl over there her name is Mary
She ain't got nuts just dingleberries.

We went to Debonell's for fancy dress
While we were there I got in a hell of mess
I saw a girl all dressed in white
So I got behind her and took a bite
I bit and I bit and I bit and I bit
'Till I found out I had a mouth full of...

The guy in the back his name is Tommy Tucker
He's got small nuts but he's a bad motorcycle.

The girl in blue whose name is Sue
She'll polish your knob if you ask her to

The girl over there that's dressed in green
Goes down like a submarine

That guy over swinging that pick
He missed one day and cut of his finger

I got some in the river and I got some in the lake
The best I had was in The Tar Heel State.

Our guitar player thinks he's it.
That's why we call him chicken ... whoa

Now old Pete has a big old grin
Somebody told him humping was a sing

Adam and Eve were sitting on a rock
Eve told Adam, "I can see your smile."

Now you see that guy who's name is Ben
He buy's his nuts at the five and ten.

The guy over there goes to Georgia Tech
His nuts so long they wrap around his neck

The man who's name is Maryland name Trendell
Says his nut's sound like Chinese bells.

See that guy he likes to drink wine
Bet his nuts ain't as hot as mine

You see that girl dressed in pink
She's the one that made my finger stink

If you've been to this party your crazy
I be there ain't a cherry in the whole damned place.

The guy name Art is a basketball player
Every girl he takes out he wants to lay her.

The fellow over there who's coat that's green,
He's got nuts that swing and swing.

Our vocalist who's name is Prince
He caught his nuts in a picket fence.

See that guy dressed like a fool
He's got a lot of nuts like a Jersey fool.

You see that girl wearing the pumps
She humps

Well bob-a-bob-a-loo-bob ju-bob-a-bam
They won't stay hot, I just don't give a damn

Late UK bluesman George Melly did a version for many years. My own challenge was to find a rhyme for orange. The best I could come up with needs odd pronunciation to work: "See that man who's shirt's orange? He's got big nuts but they look a bit strange."
(Ira Gershwin, I'm not!)
