Subject: Stolen Tips Sorcha Dorcha From: InOBU Date: 18 Mar 00 - 09:05 AM Re: Sorcha Dorcha on Saint Patricks Day Oh, one more gripe about Saint Patricks day, Which maybe should be its own BS thread, (I copied and pasted this taking it out of my Saint Patricks day post) and does not in any way relect on the REALLY good welcome we got from Garry and Brewskys, but, is something I am sure all you other struggling musicians can relate to... some poorassed son of a bitch stole our tips can during the gig. Now, this group of folks, were mostly middle class college kids, who from the look of em, didnt work very hard a day in their lives... So, if anyone sees a black can, with a gold top, and our bands logo on it, with a lable saying Gratuities for the band greatly appreciated... give the poor son of a bitch a penny from me, he obviously needs it. Subject: RE: BS: Stolen Tips From: Áine Date: 18 Mar 00 - 09:18 AM A Lorcán, I'm so sorry about your loss. I just hope that the condoms that the little bugger bought with the band's money had holes in 'em and the girl has a daddy with a double-barrel shotgun and four big brothers who kickbox and lift weights! What goes around, comes around. -- Áine |

Subject: RE: BS: Stolen Tips From: Little Neophyte Date: 18 Mar 00 - 11:00 AM Larry, it is very difficult not to become angry when something like that happens. When someone has taken something of mine, I try to imagine they were desperate for the money and that one day they will realize the impact their actions have on others. Sorcha Dorcha did not have an easy time this Saint Patricks Day. I hope your future performances go much smoother Larry. Sincerely, Bonnie |

Subject: RE: BS: Stolen Tips From: The Beanster Date: 18 Mar 00 - 04:43 PM Larry, So sorry that happened. Really bites the weenie. Whenever anyone has done something that nasty to me, I always find solace in the fact that, in order to behave that way, rest assured they are a sad, sorry person, inwardly living a miserable life. And as they continue to act out in antisocial ways, they become more miserable each day. That's the revenge. And it has a ring of perfect symmetry. |

Subject: RE: BS: Stolen Tips From: InOBU Date: 18 Mar 00 - 07:07 PM To all who expressed sympathy, thanks, and to Beanster, though I thank you fro the kind words and agree with you generally, the other thing which happens to such people, is that they are elected to the presidency of the United States on the Republican ticket or inheret their parents multi-national corporations. Then they pay other people to experience the health and phycological damage from their life choices. But, well, thats life in America! Could be a song in it. All the best Larry |

Subject: RE: BS: Stolen Tips From: Banjer Date: 18 Mar 00 - 07:34 PM Can anyone account for the whereabouts of Cletus and Reg x3 during this event? I think this need looked into! 'Spaw, since they are almost blood kin, can you tell us anything? |

Subject: RE: BS: Stolen Tips From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 18 Mar 00 - 07:44 PM "Could be a song in it." Exactly. That's the way to think. A song of malediction perhaps. "Lorcan's Lament and Cry for Vengeance". It could be an epic of malediction.

Subject: RE: BS: Stolen Tips From: Sorcha Date: 19 Mar 00 - 04:12 AM I thought maybe it was about "Secret Tips Stolen From Musicians Like Rick Feilding"........you know, the stuff They NEVER TELL! Well, here we are shown up again. We folkies like to think that WE would never play a venue where this would happen, after all there is the Folk Ethic, but obviously it can and does. I figure if somebody is that desperate, they need it worse than I do. That is why my house and car are never locked. I do take reasonable precautions with my cash, etc. but everything I have, except my people is replaceable, kind sorta. BUT DONT F**K WITH MY PEOPLE!!I am sorry, guess it was just a Dorcha type day. Some days are like that, even in Australia. |

Subject: RE: BS: Stolen Tips From: wysiwyg Date: 19 Mar 00 - 10:45 AM Corrie ten Boom said something like, "I try not to hold too tight to things-- for then when God wants to take them from me, it will hurt when he has to peel my fingers off of it." Another version is, leave the car unlocked, if they want the stereo, they'll take it, and I'd rather not have to also replace the smashed window. How much do you figure you might have lost? Look for it coming from another unexpected source, when you need it. I bet it'll be there. I've looked all over the house for the $200 I KNOW I mislaid one week. Grocery money. The week it got lost, the cupboard was BARE. We ate off of what neighbors just happended to leave on our back step, altho no one knew the $$ was gone. I know the $$ will turn up when it's really needed. Probably to help someone else. Hope it works that way for you. |

Subject: RE: BS: Stolen Tips From: Rick Fielding Date: 19 Mar 00 - 12:33 PM Nope Sorcha...THOSE kinda tips are given most freely to anyone who wants 'em. Absolute bummer INOBU. I'm truly sorry. I've talked to many buskers who've had the same thing happen, and it just saddens me to see how despearate so many folks are. Same with instruments being stolen right off the stage during a break. (that's happened to me, and it hurts) Rick |

Subject: RE: BS: Stolen Tips From: Jon Freeman Date: 19 Mar 00 - 02:23 PM Once when I was busking I had someone come up to me and tell me he was going to take a pound out of my hat. I pointed to it and told him to take what he wanted and he seemed quite taken aback and ended up giving me a pound. In last years North Wales Bluegrass Festival, the festival organiser had his Grover 5 string banjo which he had owned for some 20 years stolen which left a nasty taste in a lot of people's mouths. A lot of people got to know about it and like myself knew the banjo and it got a little bit hot. It ended up in a pawn shop in Liverpool - a £3000+ (so I'm told) banjo sold for £100. Anyway the good news was he got it back in perfect condition. Jon |

Subject: RE: BS: Stolen Tips From: InOBU Date: 19 Mar 00 - 03:49 PM On the general scale of things, whatever was in the pot was no great loss, Another happy banjo story. I was walking down Lafayette Street one evening and a fellow approached with a lovely old tenor banjo. He said he was selling it for $20. I handed him the cash and he handed me the banjo and I walked on. In about three blocks I was passing a pawn shop, and a fellow was standing out on the street. He asked me where I got the Banjo and I told him. He told me that it was his, and though it was in the shop, it was his personal banjo and not for sale, and some fellow had just boosted it. I hand it back to him, and he offered me a reward, which I declined, saying if he wanted to give me back the $20, that would be fine with me, or not, he should not have to pay to get his banjo back. He greatfully gave me the 20 and we both felt grand. The quickest lost and found story I know. Well more bitching and moaning to come in a post about Sorcha Dorcha now homeless... Larry |

Subject: RE: BS: Stolen Tips From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 20 Mar 00 - 02:31 AM If it wasn't for bands taking breaks, I wouldn't have most of my equipment, and if it wasn't for handicapped folks, I'd never get a parking-spot near my gigs. Just kidding, folks! Larry, put a lid with a slot in it on the top of your next tip can, and stick a loaded mousetrap in the bottom. People can put money in, but if somebody tries to take it out... All the best. Seamus |

Subject: RE: BS: Stolen Tips From: Amos Date: 20 Mar 00 - 02:46 PM Get a big old dairy can -- heavy steel -- and weld a shackle to it. Padlock it shut and shackle it to the stage. 'S no worse than a big amp or a drum set...and it adds character. |
