Subject: A baby fell out of the window

Does anyone know the words to this old shaving cream advertising song? My Dad used to sing it to me... he was always coming up with some wacky song that I loved! I know that it starts out:

" A baby fell out of the window,
you thought that her head would be split.
But when they found her the next morning,
she was lying in a big pile of ....
Shaving Cream ..be nice and keen...
use shaving cream and you'll always be clean."

Or something like that? Can anyone help? And Where is it from?

Also, my son and I play a game to make up verses to this of our own. It really cracks us up. (I have a very youthful sense of humor!) Thanks for the help........kat

I think it was "shave every day and you'll always look keen", but it's been a while!

The last verse was something like

So now my song it is ended,
yes I think it is time I should quit.
If any of you feel offended
stick your head in a barrel of SHHHAaving cream, etc.

T.

I heard a member of the 'Bubs, short for the Beelzebubs, and all-male a cappella group from my Alma Mater, sing this one, he said it came from a commercial, I always thought he made it up:

I have a sad story to tell you
It may hurt your feelings a BIT
Last night I stepped out of my bathtub
And into a bucket of
SSSSHHHHHHHHAving cream, be nice and clean,
shave every day and you'll always feel keen!

There once was a very old lady, she died in a terrible FIT,
one day she slipped out of her armchair, and fell in a pile of
SSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHH...

and there were lots of other verses... but you had to SHOUT the word that rhymes with the word that starts with SH but you never say.

My family still sings the song SHAVING CREAM. When we all get together and have a few too many, we start singing old songs. I dont know all the words off hand, but I did, a few months ago, download that song off of Napster. I think it was by a R. Clemente. Just type in Shaving Cream in the title bar. Try that.

Here they are:

SHAVING CREAM

Benny Bell

I have a sad story to tell you,
It may hurt your feelings a bit,
Last night when I walked into my bathroom,
I stepped in a big pile of

Shaving cream, be nice and clean,
Shave every day and you'll always look keen.

I think I'll break off with my girlfriend,
Her antics are queer I'll admit,
Each time I say "Darling, I love you"
She tells me that I'm full of

Shaving cream, be nice and clean,
Shave every day and you'll always look keen.

Our baby fell out of the window,
You'd think that her head would be split;
But good luck was with her that morning:
She fell in a barrel of

Shaving cream, be nice and clean,
Shave every day and you'll always look keen.

An old lady died in a bathtub,
She died from a terrible fit,
In order to fulfil her wishes,
She was buried in six feet of

Shaving cream, be nice and clean,
Shave every day and you'll always look keen.

When I was in France with the army,
One day I looked into my kit,
I thought I would find me a sandwich,
But the darn thing was loaded with

Shaving cream, be nice and clean,
Shave every day and you'll always look keen.

And now, folks, my story is ended:
I think it is time I should quit.
If any of you feel offended,
Stick your head in a barrel of

Shaving cream, be nice and clean,
Shave every day and you'll always look keen.
DMS

We always thought it was really funny, too, and as close as we dared to get to saying a real 'swear word!'

So, was it written as a song or as an ad? Seems a little off-center for an ad, if you ask me. What is the tune? jb

Looks like it's always been a song. A Google search came up with:

"Shaving Cream" - Benny Bell with Paul Wynn transcriber unknown

"There are more verses to this than you can imagine. In fact, there are an infinite number. People continue to make them up all the time. First are the words to the original recording. It was written by Ben Samberg (a/k/a Benny Bell) and sung by Phil Winston (a/k/a Paul Wynn). It originally came out in 1946, but finally hit the Billboard charts in 1975! This original recording is available on many 45's, as well as the original Paul Wynn album of 78's called _Cocktail Party Songs_ (wherein it's the B-side to "Automobile Song"), the LP/CD _Dr. Demento Presents the Greatest Novelty Records of All Time, Vol. 1 - The 1940's (and before!)_, Rhino 820, 1985, and the CD/CS _Dr. Demento's 25th Anniversary Collection_, Rhino 72124, 1995."

There are several different sites which have lyrics, the ones Denise put in and more, if you go to Google and search for "shaving cream lyrics."

Oops--

Anyway, Google is where I *did* the lyrics search for "Shaving Cream." Took me about 10 seconds to search, find, and copy them...

...took me longer than that just to put all of the line breaks in to post it on Mudcat!!
