Can any of you come up with the words (and, if possible, the chords) to Jean Ritchie's "None But One"? She wrote it to the ancient tune of "Nonesuch", and I can only pick out about 3/4 of the words from the album.

Thanks, Phil

This is what I've got. I don't know what key she sings it in, and I'm not sure about the G's with the [?] next to them--Ely
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Am
Across the plain there moves a sway,
G[?] Am
It moves with human sound,
Am
And some do walk and some do run,
G Am
some crawl upon the ground.
G Am
And some do stop to help the weak,
G Am
some trample on the others.
G Am
And some do laugh and some do weep,
G Am
and all of them are brothers.

Am
And sounding all around the sound [?],
G[?] Am
Round and everywhere,
Am
And none but one can understand
G Am
And none but one can hear.

I'm mine and are thine,
Father, mother, son,
I'm me and I'm thee,
And all of us are one.

I saw four travelers in a dream,
All in the wind and weather,
The chain they carried in their hands
had bound them all together,
And one was yellow, one was red, and older than the other,
And one was black and one was white
and all of them are brothers.

God, I HATE it when [enter] doesn't actually mean [enter]. Let me try again. Sorry to use so much space

Thanks, Ely, Looks like you have trouble with some of the same words that I do, but you got a lot farther than I have, far enough that I think I can sing it...unless some folks have other ideas.

Listening to Kat Eggleston sing the song (I don't have a recording of Jean singing it), I can understand the lyrics to the chorus parts.

Here are the lyrics (with chords as posted by Ely) transcribed from Kat Eggleston:

None But One (Jean Ritchie)

[Am] Across the plains there moves a sway,
It [G?] moves with human [Am] sound.
[Am] Some do walk and some do run,
Some [G?] crawl upon the [Am] ground.

And [G] some do stop to [Am] help the weak,
Some [G] trample on the [Am] others,
[G] Some do laugh and [Am] some do weep—
[G] All of them are [Am] brothers.

Chorus:
Some [Am] may run around the sounds,
[G?] Around and every[Am]where.
[Am] None but one can understand,
[G] None but one can [Am] hear.

I am [Am] mine and I thine,
[G?] father, mother, [Am] son,
I am [Am] me and I'm thee,
(And) [G] all of us are [Am] one.

I saw four trav'lers in a dream,
All in the wind and weather.
The chain they held in their hands
Had bound them all together,

And one was yellow, one was red
And older than the others,
And one was black and one was white
But all of them are brothers.

(Repeat chorus 2 or 3 times).
