Subject: Quiet Joys of Brotherhood From: Margaret V Date: 13 May 00 - 05:23 PM Richard Farina wrote words to the same tune as Lagan Love (which is, I think, really the tune called Belfast Maid, right?), and it's called "The Quiet Joys of Brotherhood." I have only heard it sung by Sandy Denny and am wondering a few things. First, can anyone post the lyrics (my Sandy Denny is trapped on vinyl and I haven't a turntable)? Second, is there a recording of Richard Farina singing this himself? Third, did he have anything to say about it and his inspiration to use the Irish tune? Thanks. Margaret |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Quiet Joys of Brotherhood From: Joe Offer Date: 13 May 00 - 06:33 PM This song was printed in Volume 15, #4 of Sing Out! Magazine. Does anybody have the tune, and can they transcribe a MIDI and xe-mail it to Alan of Australia (click) for the Mudcat MIDI Page? I have a recording of this song on Pete Seeger's God Bless the Grass CD. It's a beautiful song, but I'm not sure I could sing the melody. It doesn't quite fit my style. Dave, note that I changed your lyrics to Digital Tradition format when I harvested it, including the songwriter name in parentheses and putting the song title in ALL CAPS. I also added
line breaks in the blank lines between stanzas so the lyrics would copy-and-paste properly (blank spaces and
paragraph marks between stanzas cause problems). -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Quiet Joys of Brotherhood From: GUEST,Arielle5050 Date: 17 Oct 13 - 08:43 AM DO I need copy right to sing this song in a movie? who do i contact about that, many thanks! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Quiet Joys of Brotherhood From: Phil Cooper Date: 17 Oct 13 - 09:12 AM I suspect you would need permission to use the song in a movie. My understanding is that each deal has to be individually licensed. Richard Farina recorded for the Vanguard label and the song publishing information would be on the album. That would be a good place to start. The Harry Fox agency might help with mechanical royalty questions. Also either ASCAP or BMI might be able to help. |
