Subject: Richard and Mimi Farina song
From: GUEST,saggio

I have a song in my head from Richard and Mimi Farina. It's probably been 30 years since I've heard it. Can any one tell me the name of the song and the "album" it was on?

I think the chorus goes something like:

Listen to the wind my friend It will bend your heart, not break it. Time is nowhere near the end There's plenty of room for those of us who make it.

Remember, it's been 30 years so I may not have it exactly right.

Any help?

No luck at all. This site lists all the albums by both/either of them. If you click on the "More" you can scroll down to track listings. No lyrics, though. I thought it might have been Reflections on a Crystal Wind, but it wasn't. Sorry.

Try "Celebrations for a Grey Day." The first part, "Listen to the wind, my friend," sort of rings a bell. They made only three albums together, so it shouldn't be hard to track down.

I had a quick flick through the 3CD complete Vanguard recordings set and could not find it. The only song with the expression 'listen to the wind' that I could find is 'Swallow song' and that was not in a chorus. I may have missed it, but I don't think so.

No, that's the first song from the Mimi Farina and Tom Jans album, "Take Heart": song is called "Madman". I recall the line as "...plenty of room for all of us to make it." There's a heartbreaking song about Janis Joplin on there called "In the Quiet Morning". Jans also wrote "Feww and Easy" ("...the best part of a good love's free and easy," on a solo album. I think Helen Reddy (!) covered it.

Looks to me like it is the 6th track, but I still didn't find lyrics.

Lyrics copied from http://marcogiunco.com/Testi/000743_06.htm

MADMAN
Mimi Fariña, Tom Jans

Like a madman, he drives himself to the grave.
Such a sad man, he never knew how to behave,
Never at home with life,
Driven by his father's will.
Before he finds the perfect wife,
He's on the field. He'll fight to kill.

CHORUS: Oh, listen to the earth, my friend.
It'll bend your heart, not break it.
Time is nowhere near the end,
And there's plenty of room for all of us to make it

In the morning, he will cast away his dreams.
Running fast, he will pass life's precious themes
Not knowing the tides roll on,
Not feeling the winds flow free.
His growing will soon be gone
To an aging memory. CHORUS.

[From the album "Take Heart," 1971. Information about the album here.]
