Hello, I'm catching a ride to the gathering with Bill Sables and Company (thanks, Bill), and they are planning to camp. I'm looking for a bed and won't have a sleeping bag. Bron, can you help with suggestions?

Would any of the London Mudcatters have room for one going back, dropping me off somewhere, Bill suggested Wiltshire? I was thinking of visiting Stonehenge. I'll have a medium size suitcase, small bag and a fiddle.

Are there any odd things we should bring to Llanstock?

Thanks, and see you soon, Linda from Portland, Oregon

I've got my car now (after a three month wait!), but Mark is iffy as to whether he wants to come now (typical!!), so I might be coming down on my own (with the dog for company). I'll probably sleep in the car (I can pretend its just a squished down camper van). If Mark & Amoret come then we'll bring a tent & worry about the details when we get there. Looking forward to it.....

Bron,

Would it be possible to summarize where everyone will be at what time and when? Like, I'll be booking in at Pippins around ... 5.30ish on Friday. Where would I find people then? I guess everyone will be arriving at different times, so might need to know this sort of thing...

I'll be at the Red Lion from lunchtime on the Friday, so if people would like to make it their first port of call, I can give directions and stuff. Lucky I'm not a drinker, all afternoon and evening is a long time.
I'll take my knitting!!!!
I'll be checking that everyone's got somewhere to sleep during the week, as we now have 23 members definitely coming, and with spouses, friends etc, plus people who decide to come at the last minute, plus local musicians, there's going to be quite a crowd!!!!
Cheers, Bron. (good job I'm feeling better!!!)

Looks like Mark, Amoret & I will be arriving sometime on Saturday morning. Will worry about accomodation when we get there, else will sleep in the car. Dog still undecided! REALLY looking forward to it now that I've convinced Mark he needs to come. Only possible fly in the ointment is that Amoret is quite ill with an infection, and is on her third course of antibiotics. X-fingers she'll be OK by Llanstock-time though.

Amoret's infection is not an infectious one (if that makes sense). Its a bacterial thing..... We won't be spreading anything.

Amoret is human? Animal? Both??? (I have a child, I know of what I speak)

There may be room with us going back, but even better would be getting into Morticia's good books, as she actually lives not too far away from Wiltshire.

Hello, Pippins and the Red Lion were full (except for the caravan at Pippins), but I just booked a room at the Bryn Teg? B&B. She said she has plenty of rooms. The number is 01938 810535. I think it is outside Llanfair, so I'll need to figure out transportation. I wonder if there is a bus? Looking forward to meeting everyone, -Linda from Portland, Oregon, US

Amoret is, as you suspect, a bit of both!! Actually, she's our 9yr old daughter - also known as Omlette because that is the closest approximation for Japanese friends & relations. The dog is Noni. Noni is the more sensible of the two.

Kris

PS. That knitting business is a bit scarey isn't it? I made a jumper once, but only out of straight bits (and I didn't bother with sleeves). I can do straight bits in Tunisian crochet as well & that's great fun. I think I'll play to my strengths though & stick to straight bits. I stand in awe of the turners of heels!

Make that ... Would-Be-Turner-of-Heels. I've only done it once, successfully. And I use the word, Successfully, loosely. Strictly speaking, I think you have to do it twice to be truly successful, at least with socks.

So what happened to the other sock? Personally, I think I'd be better off cutting off my heels so that I could make socks out of straight bits. Or, and here is a stroke of genius I believe, how about knitting a sock out of straight bits but cunningly leaving a slit for the heel. Then you could put it on and darn the heel whilst it were on the foot (needs considerable bodily flexibility I admit) - resulting in a perfectly fitting and tailored sock (or two).

Perhaps we could have a darning workshop. Anybody remember darning?

I'm still in denial about my all-in-one 1950 knitted swimming costume. How could my parents have done that to me, and take a bloody picture! It has just struck me, finally, after 39 years, I was sodding well dressed up in a knitted GIRLY swimming costume. Therapy beckons.

Bron, it's entirely probable that the answer to this question is lodged somewhere in the earlier threads, but as I am too lazy to sift through all 200 or more posts, I'll ask anyway: will any of Llanstock be heard via HearMe, perhaps in the concert room? Those of us who will be resignedly stuck somewhere other than the center of the musical universe during the gathering would be glad for a chance to hear some of the festivities.... again, sorry if this has already been asked and answered. Best, Margaret

Kris, the other sock was fine, just different. So I now have two socks to use for Christmas Stockings. Believe it or not, there's a pattern in the book for a sock with a replace-able sole. (I think there's a philosophical point to be made there somewhere...)

Skippy, I remember darning with great pleasure. I quite enjoyed it. No point these days; these mixed fibre socks aren't worth ... well ... a darn.

The swimming suit point embraces several possible interpretations of thread creep...

How to return to subject? So ... is someone at Llansock (sic) gonna help me with m' heels or not? I remember seeing an engraving once of a woman (19thC) walking to market from Tregaron to Aberystwyth with two baskets of produce to trade, a pig on a lead, and knitting as she walked. Good knitters could apparently knit one sock going to Aber. and the other coming back. Then they sold them to itinerant traders who sold them to men working in the iron mills of Merthyr Tydfil.

Bet they sang, too.

Bingo, back on topic!

Nice one Sian, a well-crafted thread creep control!!!!
Margaret, I think Hearme is out because there is no phone connection in the Institute. We are planning to record the highlights on CD for posterity, and I'm borrowing my sister's camcorder so we can send a video to Max for the radio.
It would appear that the accommodation is now full. If you need somewhere to sleep when you get here, please contact me, because some B&B places are miles from anywhere. I have a list of people who can offer accommodation.
Cheers, Bron.

Huzzah! Racketty old banger has fixed the..... no sorry, that should be the racketty old banger is still not well but the other car has been fixed!! No, we haven't had it taken to the vets, although judging by the last but one mechanics that fixed mine, they couldn't have made a worse job..... it has had a new elastic band and the wick in the engine has been replaced, so we will not have to a) suffer a train journey of longer than 20 mins with the bratling, b) suffer a train journey with the LFU for longer than 20 mins or c) have to scrounge a lift from Welshpool..... 5 days and counting..... should we bring our thermals/wetsuits??

Would the people planning on camping in tents please consider sharing the 8 berth caravan at Pippins. It was raining, it is raining, and it's going to rain for the forseeable future.
Just let me know, and I'll let Julia and Jim know.

Hi all.

We've got organised and looked at a map now - makes it all seem more exciting (especially as its a really simple route). Someone tried to break into the car the other night, so its gone on holiday to its granny's drive for a week so that we can be SURE of it still being around for Saturday morning!!! (and then.... Mark will just have to clear out the garage for it). Amoret has taken possession of the boot (her 'foxy hole') and is desperate to sleep in there. Its not as cruel as its sounds - the seats go down so she can get in & out - and the boot is huge.

See you all soon....

Just seen the forecast, Bron! Caravan with seven other bodies looks eminently more appealing than bailing out the tent, so yes, please put me down for a berth.

Thanks for all the work. How many years before we can beatify (yes, the sainting process) you for the Mudcat sainthood. I take it, Wales being Wales, you already have a St Bronwyn, but perhaps we could suggest you for one of these people's peerages, Lady Bronwyn of Llanfair?

I take it Mudcat T Shirt and Tig & Badger Badge are de rigeur.

There is one important question that hasn't been asked here and at the risk of getting shouted at, here goes.......

Are the sheep pretty?

And why does everbody need wellies?

That's two questions

My third and final question tonight is.......

Do I need to bring my wellies? They're green,

Does it make any difference?

That's four questions....blast it! NO MORE QUESTIONS

except.....would they be better if they were black?

Stop it! this is getting too silly and I didn't come here for an arguement!!

Goodnight all.

Only 3 days to go.............

Amoret is still off from school - so we might come down on Friday. But - would that be a miscalculation? If we come on friday night would we be thrown out of the pub at 9pm due to having the kid with us? What's the rules down that way? Could we get around it by ordering a meal? That's the official getaround at our local singaround pub. She's not a very kiddish kid, and given the chance will just blend in with the adults (and she's my singing partner). If its not feasible then we'll go back to plan A and arrive sometime mid-saturday.

KingBrilliant- it's ok for Amoret to be in the pub after 9pm, you being visitors and all.
Eric, if you wear black wellies, the sheep can see you coming, or were you talking about black sheep?
Cheers, Bron.

Ps. I've got a truly horrible image now of a field full of sheep watching with interest as Eric pleasures himself in a pair of black wellies.

I feel really left out -wish I didn't have to work and besides my husband reckons we only have enough Air Miles to get us to Goole!!! Saw Sam Pirt today and he was as excited as the most excited man in the kingdom of Excited. Hope the weather improves or wellies might not be enough. Have a really great time and I expect lots of threads telling us how wonderful it all was.

Hi all

We're definitely starting out Friday lunchtime. So this is my last day to gather information...... We've got enough roadmaps to get us to Llanfair Thingywhatsit, and I've just printed out the various maps from the threads. Will The Lion be obvious & easy to find?

I hadn't looked at it that way Micca. I am ashamed of myself! In general, finding pubs is not a problem. Finding the right pub might be more of a challenge. I will be considerably hampered by the navigational skills (or not) of Mark & Amoret. Mark is the only person I know that reverses his left and right instructions if the map is upside down. Approaching T junctions, he responds to my anxious queries with 'I don't know which way to go, I haven't decided yet'. AND we've been to Farnham TWICE on the way to the Gosport & Fareham festival!! I worry.............

We'll find you somewhere, Jon, there are still beds available.
DIRECTIONS TO THE RED LION, LLANFAIR CAEREINION.

From WELSHPOOL, take the A458, signposted to Dolgellau and Machynlleth. When you pass the steam railway station at Raven Square, it should be on your left as you head up the 458. 8 miles or so along this road, you will enter Llanfair Caereinion. The railway station is on your left. Go past that, and the road that leads to it, and the next left turning, which you will take, takes you over the river and on to Bridge Street. At the end of the street is the HBSC dead ahead, and, to the left of it, the Red Lion. Park where you can to start with, I'll show you the proper carpark later.
See you tomorrow or Saturday, Bron.

You will be surprised no doubt, to hear that we've had some quite heavy rain round our way just recently. I like to think it's nature's way of preparing us for the Llanstock event. I realise the Welsh have an understanding of rain that transcends the English experience and any suggestion that a road might be un-passable in the event of a torrential downpour might seem like paranoia born out of ignorance. Maybe, but what are the chances of a car being washed off the road and swept into one of those bottomless valleys I've woken up screaming about so often this last week?

Well, it's here (almost) my bags are packed and I should get down for about 20.30(Traffic around Manchester and Chester permitting). I can't leave until about 17.00-some of us have to work (more's the pity) So see you all tomorrow night. I won't bring me wellies, I'll creep up on tmem instead-it makes it more fun!!

And so amongst our ranks is a voyeur-King Brill is already getting images!!

Everyone have a safe journey.

Perhaps in an act of selflessness, the rest of us should pray for it to rain on us this weekend, so as to confuse the rain gods. Worth a try. yours, Peter T.

It didn't rain today!!!
When we have really heavy downpours, the streams tend to relocate to the roads, but it doesn't last long!!!
I'm getting an early night in preparation for late nights all weekend.
But I think I'm too excited to sleep!!!
Cheers, Bron.

Ah, French Tickler Gumboots...... rag mags of my youth.... must get them back from him.....

Someone has to get their wellies on to get my wellies, they are in the cellar which has flooded (only about 2 inches, no mega tsunami's here......) being as how we sit on a gravel bed that until about 150 years ago was a water meadow..... the cold has set in, but I'm hoping those lovely welsh germs will push it out, so long as I keep a voice for next weeks recordings, I don't mind!

Phoebe has bought a new hat and pair of gloves, the sheep will see her coming.....

LTS, second most excited person in the kingdom of Excited.... although if I don't stop posting and get on with my sewing, I may well be wearing ONLY my wellies....

I tried to post here last night, but the cat was down.
Everyone due on Friday arrived safely, and managed to squeeze into the lounge at the Red Lion. There are some amazingly talented musicians here, and we played and sang until 1am.
Micca was taking pictures with his digital camera throughout, and will put them in the computer when he gets home.
JON, if you haven't left already, THERE ARE NO BUSES TO LLANFAIR. I'll pick you up at the station.
Cheers, Bron.

To all our Mudcat brothers and sisters at Llanstock:

Have a great time! Sing, eat, drink, and be merry. Take lots of pictures. Ignore such things as sleep and Monday.

And, if you think of it in all the merriment, take a moment to raise a glass to your brothers and sister out here who couldn't be there. We are thinking of you (and green with envy).

Still planning on getting there... should arive 8:06pm now... I'm paying the price of trying to burn the candle at both ends and couldn't wake upfor the first train and just fell asleep by the computer and missed the next.

I'm pretty sure that there is a festivial on in Portsmouth, NH this weekend with Louis Killen and others. I hope that those who get there have a great time - would like to be there too (2 places in one time! - wouldn't that be nice).

I will get to Llanstock and will take pictures but I hope to see pictures of the Portsmouth do and thinking of pictures, Jeri, if you read this thread, I want to see some trees and the fantastic colours... maybe next year, I will get a chance to see them first had.

Jon

It's Sunday morning, and I'm about to go and clear up the hall, though there's not much to do because the playgroup mums did most of the work last night.
Most people arrived for the Friday night session in the pub, and we sang and played till midnightish.
I'll continue this later on the Post Llanstock thread.
Cheers, Bron.
