Subject: Lyr Add: SEVEN DRUNKEN NIGHTS From: Mick Lowe Date: 24 Nov 00 - 02:13 PM Just in case you can't be bothered looking.. here is one version.. there is a more "flavoured" one we used to sing after rugby matches that had all 7 nights listed... SEVEN DRUNKEN NIGHTS As I went home on Monday night as drunk as drunk could be I saw a horse outside the door, where my old horse should be So I called me wife, the curse of me life, will you kindly tell to me Who owns that horse outside the door where my old horse should be. Ay you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool As drunk as drunk can be That's a lovely sow that me mother sent to me Well it's many a day I've travelled, a hundred miles or more But a saddle on a sow, sure I never saw before. As I went home on Tuesday night as drunk as drunk could be I saw a coat behind the door, where my old coat should be So I called me wife, the curse of me life, will you kindly tell to me Who owns that coat behind the door where my old coat should be. Ay you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool As drunk as drunk can be That's a woollen blanket that me mother sent to me Well it's many a day I've travelled, a hundred miles or more But buttons on a blanket, sure I never saw before. As I went home on wednesday night as drunk as drunk could be I saw a pipe upon the chair, where my old pipe should be So I called me wife, the curse of me life, will you kindly tell to me Who owns that pipe upon the chair where my old pipe should be. Ay you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool As drunk as drunk can be That's a lovely tin whistle that me mother sent to me Well it's many a day I've travelled, a hundred miles or more But tobacco in a tin whistle, sure I never saw before. As I went home on Thursday night as drunk as drunk could be I saw two boots beneath the bed, where my old boots should be So I called me wife, the curse of me life, will you kindly tell to me Who owns those boots beneath the bed where my old boots should be. Ay you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool As drunk as drunk can be They're two lovely geranium pots me mother sent to me Well it's many a day I've travelled, a hundred miles or more But laces in geranium pots, sure I never saw before. As I went home on Friday night as drunk as drunk could be I saw a head upon the bed, where my old head should be So I called me wife, the curse of me life, will you kindly tell to me Who owns that head upon the bed where my old head should be. Ay you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool As drunk as drunk can be That's a baby boy that me mother sent to me Well it's many a day I've travelled, a hundred miles or more But a baby boy with his whiskers on, sure I never saw before. Cheers Mick |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: drunk, silly old fool From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 24 Nov 00 - 02:50 PM It's a bit difficult to search for songs when you only have a few words and the "Digitrad and Forum Search" is down again (normally, I'd recommend that you start there). The song belongs to the group Professor Child called Our Goodman, and assigned number #274. There are three versions in the DT database: Five Nights Drunk (Our Goodman) The Traveller (Our Goodman) Shickered As He Could Be There are also a number of past threads containing further discussion, background information and a number of other versions: Seven Drunken Nights Seven (?) Drunken Nights LYR ADD: Seven drunken nights 5 Drunken Nights ?!? Malcolm |

Subject: Lyr Add: SEVEN DRUNKEN NIGHTS From: bill\sables Date: 25 Nov 00 - 09:36 AM This is one of the earliest versions I know , I think it came from the West Country ( Devon , Cornwall.) I first heard it in the early sixties and used to sing it to a tune similar to "Dear Old Donegal". For the Americans; pittle pot is chamber pot, braces are suspenders, bum is arse, and twelve bore is shotgun.
