Carol should get one, or at least two. I don't think Corgis can help you spell, but they speak Welsh quite well.

Corgis are on average better smelling than ferrets, too. Ferrets are mustelids, and mustelids have glands.

Glands, yes indeed. Glands are NASTY......this was supposed to be part II, but they are still posting to part I.........and Corgis are nearly Human, too!

My quondam boss's quondam girlfriend had a quondam ferret that was named "Stink". With cause. May even have been a contributing factor to all that quondamnation.

Liland

I know this is supposed to be a Part II Thread, maybe we should go back and seed a bunch of blue clickies at the end of the old one.

Liland, thank you, but "quondam"? What are quandoms? Related to Condoms? or to Ferrets? Perhaps to "Carols"? I once knew a ferret called "Stinky"..and he was....does this compute? Carol, just get a Corgi. Makes life easier. Someone to talk to, who actually answers. I swear, our boy, Ghillie, speaks English. He says--yes, no, hello, meow, what, NOW? go, when, bed.......these are sounds he actually vocalizes, his Understood English vocab is several hundred words.........(not including "food", "eat", "cookie", etc.......

What does your boy Ghillie mean when he says "meow"??! (Does he date members of the feline persuasion?) Quondam is a perfectly good Latinate English word, though perhaps it would be more at home in the pedants and langu thread. It means "former" as in "my former employer" or "sometime" as in "and his sometime girlfriend". Feel free to use it. ;-)

Actually, yes he does. We have 4 of the feline persuasion here, and when he says "meow" he wants to know where his favorite cat (The Yentl) is....she usually comes running to clean his ears.....) This is weird........

Well, when I was in high school we had a small brown dachshund named Mousse (pronounced to rhyme with goose), a male dachshund, who was firmly convinced he was (or should be) a female cat, and when the mommy cat left her litter in the box and went to the other box to use the other kind of litter, Mousse would jump in with the kittens and try to force them to nurse on his tummy. Now, that was weird.

Liland, growing up, we had a brown dachsund named Toby, or as we commonly called her (because of her fatness), Tobble Dobble (as in Weebles Wobbles but they don't fall down). Every place we lived in through the years, she had her own special route that she would walk on, during a certain time of day....she knew that all the suckers on that route would feed her something....sandwiches, cookies, ice cream, you name it she probably had some one give it to her.....there were times she was so fat her belly would scrape the ground.

Corgies never lit any kind of spark for me. I used to have a Great Pyrenees, and then I had a Newfoundland. I've also had an assortment of mutts.

My favorite of all the animals I've kept company with was the first raccoon I ever raised. She was found as a baby, in the middle of Dupont Circle, in Washington DC. I was a wildlife rehabilitation worker back then, so they brought her to me to raise her and eventually to release her.

I named her Bergamot. She thought I was her mother. We used to talk in raccoon talk, and she followed me around wherever I went. Imagine this... a very small woman with a great huge white dog that looked a bit like a polar bear with a tail, followed by a raccoon, walking around the neighborhoods of suburban Maryland.

She was incredibly smart. She used to like to play in the toilet (looking for crayfish, I guess). One time a guest who didn't know about her went into the bathroom intending to use it. Upon walking in, the guest was confronted with a raccoon poking it's head up out of the toilet. I have always wondered if that guest still needed to use the bathroom after that bit of surprise.

I really miss raccoons. I've raised several, but I wouldn't do it now. There's too much rabies around these days.

Carol

I saw this thread, but didn't realize it was a continuation of the other one. "The Same Name Part II" is a little more clear for continuations.

Ferrets smell less if you keep cleaning the cage out regularly and get either a jill, or a neutered jack.

Ferrets are lovely animals, much nicer than some men I've dated (and a lot less smelly, even when left whole!!), and there is no reason for them to be vicious unless you hurt them or treat them badly. My granfer used to keep them as working animals, and yes, he kept them in his trousers. They'd get out through the hole in his pocket (he had very deep pockets anyway) and rummage around in his trouser legs. Great fun to watch when you are 6.....

When I was in high school my father brought a baby raccoon home from the feed store. They ad killed the mother and then found the litter. Everyone told Dad the 'coon would grow wild and injure us kids but he determined to raise it like one of our cats. That is what we did. Little Charlie was trained to use the litter box, he went in and out of the house unsupervised, slaept on the back of the couch, and went into town with us riding on our choulders. He never did grow very big. I think he was the runt of the litter.

Eventually he did start to get less inclined to be civilized. We started to take him for long walks in the woods. We figured he might find a female and settle down. Simetimes he would disappear during these walks. We would figure he was off and about on a romantic chase and go home. To find him waiting on the doorstep.

Eventually he wound up losing an argument with a truck down on the road and all was over but he was a great pet.

Oh, and about half way through our association with Charlie we found out from the vet that we should have called him Charlotte.

Naemanson, I named one of my raccoons Charlie, too. But he really was a Charlie.

flattop - Yes, I chuckle with glee when I think how many men I may have offended in my previous posting to this glorious saga...but I question the premise that those men have " only have that one bad habit of leaving the seat up". I have never met a human being of either sex who had only ONE bad habit...

By the way, hesperis said that she thinks the reason men like to pee standing up while using the toilet is primarily that it makes them feel like REAL men, because women "can't do it that way". If so, they deserve to be ridiculed for it, IMO.

Yes, Dylan is a pistol, metaphorically. Well said. He has fired shots heard round the world in his time.

I guess I'm willing to slap you with a glove if you feel that is what is required, but I hesitate to use the angora ones that you mentioned. I think one of the lacy black ones that go up to the elbow would be more appropriate, don't you? You know, like the ones that Julie Christie wore in the party scene in Doctor Zhivago?

As to the other stuff...you're really getting petty, and I feel I must respond in kind:

You're a fine one to accuse others of sitting for hours on the toilet. At least I don't disappear into the washroom with a collection of press pictures of Mila Mulroney, scrounged from the pages of McLean's and the Globe and Mail, and make strange utterances and use up all the hot water.

Nor do I think that Jerry Lewis is still cutting edge, and try to emulate him in my mannerisms and personal habits...

I have never felt welcome in Buffalo at all, but I think you should consider moving there. Jerry Lewis is still very popular in Buffalo, and the general ambience there would suit you to a "t".

I have to tell you that it is no longer cool to carry 5 pens and an automatic pencil in a special protective holder in your front shirt pocket, nor are Mickey Mouse watches in vogue these days.

I'd give you advice on the haircut too if I thought it would do any good, but it wouldn't, so never mind.

My excuse for not seeing Seamus is that I'm already booked for something else this weekend.

Now go easy on the Cadbury bars, you know they make you break out, be sure to wear an extra set of knee-highs, and try to avoid making disparaging remarks about Lithuanian chorus girls while playing pool at Finnegan's Walk. After all, you never know who might be listening, and it's not nice to offend people.

Cheers,

Little Hawk

Corgis? Nasty yappy little dogs with foul tempers. The mother of my chilldren was once bitten by one of the queen's superannuated corgis when staying in Scotland and quite rightly has nurtured an overwhelming urge the kick out whenever she sees one of the stunted, runty little apologies for dogs.
Sorry about that - rant off. Ferrets, on the other hand, are wonderful beasties. If I was a woman, I'd marry one.
