Subject: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 21 Jan 01 - 07:38 AM http://users.jings.com/~traditional/ |
Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: GUEST,Ewan McVicar Date: 21 Jan 01 - 08:52 AM Thanks, Animaterra. It is odd to state that if you type what Animaterra gives you may not get there. However, if you type http://members.jings.com/~traditional/ you should reach the 'users' site! I do not know why. |
Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: GUEST,Ewan McVicar Date: 21 Jan 01 - 08:58 AM Sorry sorry - it seems to be working direct now!! Go there for obituaries about Hamish Imlach, and a sample chapter of his autobiography. |
Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: Jeri Date: 21 Jan 01 - 09:36 AM Ewan, I would dearly love the tune to "Absent Friends." I'm also glad to see the lyrics for "All The Tunes In The World" - the song you did in PalTalk at Barry's party. As I recall, a number of people remarked on what a great song it was. I had no idea you wrote "Shift and Spin!" I've heard it, and always thought it was traditional! |
Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: GUEST,Ewan McVicar Date: 21 Jan 01 - 09:54 AM Jeri Thanks for the kind remarks. I can see it is time I learned how to put tunes on to the Web - and blue clicky things too! I will I think be able to create a midi file for Absent Friends (which I just did the dots for so my 84 year old mother-in-law could play it on the piano). Send me your email address by sending me a message at mine - on the website - and I'll see if it will work. |
Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: GUEST,Ewan McVicar Date: 21 Jan 01 - 10:07 AM This thread is becoming Ewan McVicar's Solo Flight! Yes, I have sussed it, and can send you a MIDI file and a TIFF file. |
Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: Jeri Date: 21 Jan 01 - 10:25 AM But we are the wind beneath your wings... (sorry) I e-mailed you. Please feel free to ignore the part about me helping where it's not needed. I figure you probably learned how to write elaborate HTML thingies in the 10 seconds after you posted that, so links should be no problem. ;-)

Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: Micca Date: 21 Jan 01 - 12:38 PM I would love to see some of these but EVERY link on the page returns error 404 I reaally hat links that dont work, it really spoils my day, I esp. wanted to see the stuff about Hamish Imlach as I had the pleasure of hearing him in London in the 60s. still thats life... |
Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: Jeri Date: 21 Jan 01 - 01:06 PM They work fine for me. Did you try both the link Animaterra posted and the one Ewan posted? |
Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: Nynia Date: 21 Jan 01 - 01:50 PM I tried both too and the internal links weren't working Nynia |
Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: Jeri Date: 21 Jan 01 - 02:56 PM It's probably a browser compatability thing. I've tried the links with MSIE and Opera - I don't have Netscape. If this link to Ewan's obituaries of Hamish Imlach works, (for people who get the error messages otherwise) it's the spaces that are causing the problems. Note: I represented the blank space with a "% 20" (without the space) which is what my browser automatically inserts. |
Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: SINSULL Date: 21 Jan 01 - 03:19 PM I had no problems. There is a wealth of children's songs for anyone interested. Now if we could only get Mr. McVicar to visit us on Paltalk. Maybe a story? I was late getting to Barry's party and missed his global performance. Mary |
Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 21 Jan 01 - 03:27 PM The links work in IE but not in Netscape. I think the problem is spaces in the filenames; IE adds a % symbol to fill the gaps, but Netscape assumes that the first space is the end of the filename, and therefore cannot find it. Malcolm |
Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 21 Jan 01 - 03:29 PM Sorry about the repetition; I somehow overlooked Jeri's earlier message! |
Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: Susanne (skw) Date: 21 Jan 01 - 06:08 PM I got to Hamish's obits via the link above, but not via the site. (I use Netscape.) Sure this can be fixed. I have quite a different problem: I've switched off 'graphics' in my browser because most of them take too long to load for the fact I don't want to see them anyway. This causes Ewan's homepage to come ip with some text and dotted with little icons in place of graphics. Maybe it would be possible to provide a link that doesn't need graphics, or at least some indication where to go next? Having said that, I have to admit that the graphics on Ewan's site neither take too long to load, nor are they unattractive - quite the contrary. A great effort, Ewan! Thanks! |
Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: GUEST,Ewan McVicar Date: 21 Jan 01 - 06:41 PM Can I say thanks indeed for positive responses. Clearly I have used names for some pages that don't work in some browsers specifically Netscape but maybe more [thank you to Malcolm and Susanne re pointers.} I will work out how to fix it, when I get time from the bunch of schools I am about to start songwriting with. Why is it I always learn the right way to do things by doing the wrong thing? |
Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: SINSULL Date: 21 Jan 01 - 07:10 PM It's the best way, Ewan. You never forget then. I learned this when I bought my dishwasher. The salesman warned me never to remove the hose from the hot water tap without releasing the pressure valve. I looked blank. He sighed and said "Oh well, you'll only do it once." He was right. One faceful of scalding water was all it took. I always remember to release the valve now. |
Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: Jeri Date: 21 Jan 01 - 07:19 PM Malcolm, I do the same thing all the time. Hope I'm not stepping on toes. Famous last words - "I'm only trying to help." Here are a couple more links from Ewan's page:

Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: Alice Date: 22 Jan 01 - 01:26 AM Yup, it is the spaces in the URL's that bring a 404 error. http://members.jings.com/~traditional/Ewan McVicar's Home Page.htm http://members.jings.com/~traditional/PURCHASING BOOKS FROM GALLUS.htm etc. have spaces between the words, so they don't work as URL's in Netscape. Subject: Ewan McVicar's Website From: GUEST,Nick Date: 01 Aug 02 - 09:26 AM Ewan, Is your website down, or does it have a new address? I can't find it. Nick |

Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: GUEST,Iain Date: 01 Aug 05 - 06:40 PM Heard a great performance of Ewan McVicar's "Tam the Bam" classic at the Lomond Folk Festival yesterday and wondered if anyone knows the lyrics and chords or where they can be bought, I was too busy laughing to be lyrically minded. Much too good a song to be lost in the memory, help !!! |
Subject: RE: Ewan McVicar's new website! From: GUEST,Scabby Douglas Date: 01 Aug 05 - 08:02 PM It's in the book Ewan put together - One Singer One Song - along with many many other great songs I'll find the ISBN and post it if someone doesn't beat me to it |

It may still be available from Ewan directly. |
