Tune Req: Alice's Polka

One member,of my song circle, is also a square dance caller, who asked if mudcatters could help with a tune he would like to use. He knows it only as Alice's Polka. I heard part of a tape barely distinguishable with the following lyrics. Any help you can give in identifying the song and perhaps an artist or recording label will be appreciated.

I don't know why she's leavin'

I guess she's got a reason
But I just don't want to know
But for 24 years I've been livin' next door to Alice

This is what I got when I typed some words in to the google search engine.

Then by clicking on a few links, I found a MIDI of the tune here living next door to Alice MIDI

and info about a recording, by Smokie, as I told you above.

There was a British comedian (Roy 'Chubby' Brown?) did a novelty recording of this about 3-4 years ago and every time he sang "livin' next door to Alice" the chorus chanted "Alice? Who the fuck is Alice?" It was very popular for a while.

I went to a dance at a village hall last night and the duo played this and all the dancers did the chant - many times!
