"I was sitting on the fence post chewing my bubble gum (chew, chew chew), throwin' my yo yo (wwhoo wwhoo) when along came herman. And I said (witha New York accent), Herman, what happened to ya?....

It took me forever to find these lyrics of Herman the Worm. This is that greatest song ever.

This is a great song for camps. Here are the chords I use (the lyrics I know are just slightly different):

I wish I knew the writer of this song so I could credit him/her. The camp I was working at picked the song up at a camping conference in Chicago, and I think the writer was there teaching it...but I hadn't made it to the conference that year (1999 maybe?). When we would perform it with the kids, we'd throw in a little drama to the final chorus, pausing after the last 'up' and shouting 'No!' and repeating 'he never gave up (NO!)' a couple times. I'm guessing even that came from the conference and the original writer. Great fun.

We had the herman and Marquerite atory (im Herman the Wormen and I like my squirming and I like being close to the ground) by Jay O'callahan. Does anyone know where I can get a copy. We had a casette that we have played for 15 years at camp. It is gone. We need another. Argh. It ia the bet song as onky d9ne by Jay......
