Subject: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: GUEST,DaisyA Date: 01 Jun 01 - 07:53 AM Hi, is anyone going to Towersey? I am playing there this year with Cragg Vale Ganelan (not folk) and myself (folk). Daisy |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: John J Date: 01 Jun 01 - 11:32 AM 'fraid not. The Mrs Casey lot of festivals are just too expensive these days; they have priced themselves out of my range. Have a good time anyway, I'm sure there's plenty of 'catters going to be there. Historically it was always a good festival, I'm sure it still is. John |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Morticia Date: 01 Jun 01 - 04:11 PM Yes, it still is and yes, I will be there...I'll look out for you, Daisy. |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 01 Jun 01 - 05:26 PM Want to go to festivals cheap? Don't drink much?? Volunteer to be a steward. They always need good reliable folk to stand in a field and look at people's wrists. If you have the brain of a stunned mackeral, you could be a steward, you just need to be reliable. Any other skills are useful. Especially shouting. And looking silly in a flash jacket. That aside, it gets you a free ticket in exchange for a little work, and it is great fun. I've done it for about 5 years now (since Phoebe was born) and love it. Even in the rain. So yes, I'll be at Towersey. I'm the one without a beard. LTS |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: mousethief Date: 01 Jun 01 - 05:29 PM Are you saying then, LTS, that you have the brain of a stunned mackerel? :-P Alex |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Linda Kelly Date: 01 Jun 01 - 05:48 PM Well, having consulted the astrological charts, drawn up spreadsheets on both Excel and Lotus 123, we have concluded that given a following wind and no 'R' in the month -then yes, we are going to Towersey! (I use to be decisive, but now I'm not so sure). Can't change our minds because we've sent for the tickets! Looking forward to meeting LTS and Morticia who missed out on the Yorkshire do and reacquainting with Micca and Geordie Broon. Also going to Warwick in July, Robin Hoods Bay next weekend Beverley the weekend after and Otley in September and if we can sneak Fylde in we will. (God knows when I'm going to fit my holidays in! |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 02 Jun 01 - 01:33 AM Duh, no. I'm a dead stoat. Directional talents thereof. Stunned Mackerel is those who have trouble counting their nose. I counted mine yesterday. It's still there. LTS |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Gervase Date: 16 Jul 01 - 07:36 AM Uh! Where was I? Sorry, dozed off when this thread hit the 'Cat, so it passed me by. But I'll be at Towersey; usual places, usual suspects.... |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: KingBrilliant Date: 16 Jul 01 - 08:03 AM Mark, Hamm & I will be there - with the deaf bitch ridgeback (we will be the ones moving VERY VERY slowly, as the poor old dog is getting very elderly now). Kris |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Linda Kelly Date: 16 Jul 01 - 10:04 AM Er -Gervase where are the usual places and who are the usual suspects? I am also glad King Brilliant mentioned the ridgeback. I am not usually in favour of taking my pet dog to these places since she is old and has occassionally been known to clear a room with the accidenta noxious odour or two which I usually blame the husband for in order to save the dog embarrassment. However, it is costing me on average £50 per festival to put her in kennels, so if I can get away with the odd festival with old pebbles in tow then I would be in pocket. Do Towersey have a dog policy - if not then do you know of kennels nearby? |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Gervase Date: 16 Jul 01 - 10:44 AM I' m sure I've seen plenty of dogs wandering around site two at Towersey - I can't remember if the organisers have a stated policy on mutts, hounds and pooches, but you could always give 'em a buzz. As for the usual places and the usual suspects, it tends to be the barn at the Three Horseshoes for the singing during the day and any one of a number of tents belonging to meself, Micca, Liz the Squeak, Morticia, Jude, Beelzebub or whatever on site one for the craic into the wee hours. That and the bogs...but that's intruding into private grief! PS: As for noxious odours; don't worry about giving a dog a bad name. Anything that the old pooch lets fly will surely be blamed on me. It usually is. |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 16 Jul 01 - 04:40 PM King - the policy on dogs at Towersey is they are fine as long as they are kept under control, (this usually means on a lead, but quite a lot of people ignore this) but I do believe they are excluded from the village hall. The pub has changed hands again, and may have a no dog policy, but as long as they behave, the barn is usually dog friendly... Pearl will probably kill you if you don't take her in, especially if she is cute and slobbery... the dog, not Pearl, although she has had her moments..... See you there, I'm stewarding again and I hope I get the hangover shifts again - I love laughing at people who've woken up in the wrong face! LTS |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Linda Kelly Date: 17 Jul 01 - 05:58 AM Thanks for the info see you there -by the way if you see me with the wrong face - it ain't booze (I'm TT) - I always look like that! |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: GUEST,KingBrilliant Date: 17 Jul 01 - 06:18 AM Cheers Liz. Will look out for your cheery face in the mornings. Mine will be all saggy and grey looking, and lined with pain as I shield my eyes from the morning light & stumble to the bogs. Ickel Dorrit - we have been taking our dogs for years, as it is one of the few festivals where dogs are welcome. But they must be on leads all the time - and we carry plastic bags if y'know what I mean. Noni is a great festival dog as she has been stone deaf from birth & so doesn't mind sitting near speakers & doesn't get excited about all the noise. Its great taking your dog to Towersey because they kind of introduce you to people don't they!! They get loads of fuss and attention, and cruising past the chip van on the way back to the campsite can take a while.... We did have a bit of embarassment with Noni one year in the arena. I don't know if it was race-memory (she's a Rhodesian Ridgeback) or what - but she went wild as soon as the South African dancers came on & the arena was too crouded to get her out. I had to hold her down and cover her face. I hope they saw the funny side.... Other games you can play with your dog at Towersey: Do you remember the year that all the girlies were wearing fairy-wings? Well Mark decided he wanted wings too - so he made a set of big cardboard wings each for him & Noni. We tied them round the dog with that police-tape stuff, and they proudly wore them all day. Next day we did her up as a morris dog, with more police-tape tied in bows round her legs. Sounds cruel, but she was quite happy - and of course got lots of attention (which she likes). Kris |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Linda Kelly Date: 17 Jul 01 - 05:58 PM Kris -I have a degree in plastic bags -I recommend Tesco's. Pebbles is a veteran of folk events in Robin's Hood Bay Whitby and Holmfirth and can generally be found under any pub table fast asleep. She is known as the Ginger Whinger in our household, because she is always hungry and moans that I don't feed her enough(which I do). |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Gervase Date: 18 Jul 01 - 05:08 AM Ah, so it really wasa dog with wings. And there was me thinking it was just the hallucinogenic effects of too much Tanglefoot! |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: KingBrilliant Date: 18 Jul 01 - 05:25 AM Tescos definitely. NEVER Iceland bags - they have HOLES in the bottom.... Kris |

Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 18 Jul 01 - 07:05 PM Gervase, at one point it was YOU wearing the wings..... but you'll never make a proper TEA fairy without the tiara. LTS |

Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 19 Jul 01 - 01:38 AM And may the Lord have mercy on your soul.... go down to the village, look for the pub (it's the only one out of something like 12 buildings) and go to the barn. That's the Looney bin for the weekend. Failing that, campsite 1, just behind the centre toilets. Fitting, convenient and distinguishable. LTS |

From: Linda Kelly Date: 16 Aug 01 - 04:17 PM I think given that there is a week to go, that I am allowed to get mildly excited at this stage, don't you ? I shall be easily recognisable now because of my embroidered Mudcat Badge which I will model everywhere. The campervan (VW orange/cream 1972)blew up on the way to Warwick but has now been fixed (at great expense). So if you see me before I see you, say hello please!!!! |

Sorry to have taken ages to get back to you but I've been away and at Sidmouth etc! What time would you like me get there? I supposed to be stewarding at 4pm but I'm sure no one would be bothered if I was a bit late! By the way, I'm sorry I didn't PM but I'm on the wrong computer. If you want to contact me to make arrangements then my email is louisa.davies@virgin.net. It'll just be me as my friend is coming from Coventry. Thanks again Louisa

Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 17 Aug 01 - 02:30 AM Louisa, if you don't get a lift, there is a bus from Oxford Town Centre to Thame, or else there is a railway station at Haddenham Parkway. Both are still a couple of miles from Towersey, but at least now there is a bus service from Thame to Towersey. It is possible to walk it though. Haddenham Parkway is a bit further away, but is the closest railway station. It may be possible to hitch from there or cadge a lift as it isn't so awkward as Oxford to get through. I can't remember if I'm stewarding Thurs evening or not, but I usually have my pre-festival migraine about then, when I can barely remember my name, let alone how to drive a car..... See you there. LTS |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Matthew Edwards Date: 17 Aug 01 - 05:44 AM I hope to be going - I only booked last week when I found I had a free Bank Holiday - so I'm still waiting for my tickets to arrive. The line-up looks good; I'm especially looking forward to hearing Mark Bazeley and Jason Rice - they play some really good music. See you at Towersey! |

Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 19 Aug 01 - 01:58 AM OK Catters, let's have a live Mudcat Snug sometime? Maybe one afternoon, at a suitable spot? Outside the beer tent, Sunday afternoon? I'm stewarding in the mornings and have at least one afternoon shift (which I'm hoping to swap....) but we can sort something out during the week... LTS |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 19 Aug 01 - 02:00 AM Just a thought - would Max object if we made up some flyers with the Mudcat details on, just in case we get asked (we got asked a lot last year!!!)? It gets a bit tedious trying to remember the website after a couple of pints of Tanglefoot.... gets difficult trying to remember ANYTHING after a couple of pints of Twinglefloop..... LTS |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Noreen Date: 19 Aug 01 - 09:09 AM Don't see why anyone would object, Liz- the more singers here the better! You going to do it? :0) |

I like the idea of a mudcat snug but not outside the beer tent as it gets so crowded and noisy...only you would be heard ,Liz! How about in the barn after the usual singaround is over at 3 o'clock on Sunday? |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 19 Aug 01 - 01:01 PM I think I'm stewarding on Sunday afternoon, but I hope to be able to swap it.... LTS |

Like Liz I am also stewarding at Towersey this year, but I don't seem to have been sent details of duties yet, just the please collect ticket reciept thing confirming that I am stewarding and that I'm to camp on site 1. Will have to sort out the lift thing after I've found out about times of duties Jude |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Morticia Date: 19 Aug 01 - 06:55 PM thought stewards had to camp on site two, Jude? |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: JudeL Date: 20 Aug 01 - 07:25 AM Apparently not if you request site one, which I did, and that's what's printed on the "volunteer steward season ticket reciept" .... Season Adult Steward Site 1.... It's the first time I've stewarded at Towersey so I didn't know I wasn't supposed to ask. Jude |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: KingBrilliant Date: 20 Aug 01 - 09:10 AM Is everyone on site one then? We are on site two. We're hoping to find some likeminded souls to sing/play/chat into the early hours. Best targets are groups of people with a gazebo & instruments - 100% success rate so far this year. Louisa - I've emailed you at the address you gave above in case you still need a lift. If you opt to go by train then you're best to go to Oxford & get the bus to Thame I expect. To get to Haddenham from Reading by rail you have to go via Banbury so its a hell of a long way round - though we did it last year (car was dead) & it wasn't too terrible. Kris |
Subject: RE: Any UK catters going to Towersey Fest.? From: Linda Kelly Date: 20 Aug 01 - 10:15 AM I am on site two -knowing my luck this is probably yon side of Woking!!!
