Subject: Dave Pegg (Fairport/Tull) From: Norske Date: 16 Jan 98 - 11:01 PM One of my favorite pickers is the Cocktail Cowboy himself, Peggy. I feel like I am in an elite group, and was just wondering if anyone else in this group... I talked to Peggy during Tull's Rock Island tour, and subsequently scored one of his CD's aptly and narcissistically (is that a word? HA!) named "Cocktail Cowboy Goes it Alone." I have looked, and never saw any availability in the U.S. Dunno if it was ever actually in print or not, any one else have a copy? It's really pretty good. Good picking and a bit of a send up of one of Anderson's tunes (Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow), and a real treat in the form of a tune honoring Sandy Denny. I am just now starting to play with mp3's if anyone wants to give a listen, I should have some done soon. |
Subject: RE: Dave Pegg (Fairport/Tull) From: Elektra Date: 16 Jan 98 - 11:38 PM It is SO odd you would mention 'Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow' -- I was thinking about requesting the lyrics earlier today, but realized A) it was probably a Tull original; and b) figured I'd check other sources before wasting anyone's time. I would love to see words for the sendup, though! :) |
Subject: RE: Dave Pegg (Fairport/Tull) From: Norske Date: 17 Jan 98 - 05:46 PM I really like the Tull Ver...the Pegg "sendup" is more in the elec/synth melody rather than lyically (IMHO) in other words, I wonder if Peggy was needling Ian in the more electric version. Ian being the (nearly) insufferable perfectionist. I'm sure Ian got chills up his spine when (and if) he heard this ver. of Dave's. Morris on Peggy!!!!! You want the lyrics still? |

Subject: RE: Dave Pegg (Fairport/Tull) From: Norske Date: 17 Jan 98 - 11:37 PM Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow Ian Anderson Through long December nights, We talk in words of rain or snow While you through chattering teeth reply And curse us as you go Why not spare a thought this day For those who have no flame To warm their bones at Christmas time, Say Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow Now as the last broad oak leave falls, We beg consider this.. There are some who have no coin to save For turkey white or gifts No children's laughter 'round the fire, No family left to know So lend a warm and a helping hand, Say Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow. As holly pricks and Ivy clings your fate is none too clear The Lord may find you wanting, Let your good fortune disappear All homely comforts blown away And all that's left to show, Is to share your joy at Christmas time With Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow I love the Ian's acapella overdubbing on the last verse. Sound's like about 5 overdubs. |
