Oh yeah, speaking of not caring if they lived or died, I felt pretty much the same way about the "Lost in Space" movie. I wish they had rammed right into the Sun near the beginning of that film. |

Trouble with those classicly trained actors is that they don't transfer well to the big screen so lovely Johnny (Gilguid) Ralphy (Richardson) Larry (Olivier) were all completely hammy on screen, but absolutely amazing on stage. The rule is broken by Judi Dench who is mesmeric anywhere. And of course Kenny (Branagh) was excellent except in Frankenstein which was crap. anyway luvvies, enough from moi -(air kisses and leaves stage left pursued by bear) |

But that is as nothing compared to the regret I have for having SEEN "Independence Day" and "Armageddon". Just saw the new "Planet of the Apes" and did not like it much for various reasons...too much action and fighting for my taste. I like movies that require an attention span of more than 5 seconds now and then, but they are becoming fewer and fewer, it seems. Kristofferson got a small part in it...not much to work with, but he sported an impressive amount of hair, anyway. The apes were no doubt quite envious of this, and made sure to kill him in short order. I actually liked Brad Pitt in "Seven Years in Tibet", and I really liked the subject matter. The general public, however, was not too impressed. Not enough action, I guess. Sigh. And hey, don't diss Schwarzenneger! He makes Stallone look inarticulate and half-witted. :-) (Like, who doesn't?) - LH |

Of course, in defense of Shatner, he made a good Star Trek captain. Being a bad actor is a prerequisite for that role, which is why Patrick Stewart made such an awful captain--he's too convincing. Can't wait to see who they dig up for the new Star Trek this fall. And MASH was a really good show! |

From: Murray MacLeod Date: 09 Aug 01 - 06:29 PM I have to agree with Spaw and Wesley that "Two-Lane Blacktop" is a definite candidate for the title of worst movie of all time, and that the performances of James Taylor and Dennis Wilson are the worst examples of film acting that I have ever seen. I mean, none of the other actors mentioned above were ever anyything like as dire as these two. What must Warren Oates have thought? The strange thing is that for me, a bad film can be horribly compulsive, and if "TLB" were to air tonight on TV, I would watch it again, all the way through. Murray |

Then you'll understand why no one liked the movie. (the book was great). I liked KC's Robin Hood. There, I've said it, and I don't care who knows. Whoever that woman was who narrated "Billy Jack". I believe she was actually dead at the time. She made Tom Laughlin look like Olivier. I also understand that Mae West was playing a character in all her movies, but I never did understand her appeal. |

Stewart Grainger from the old days, John Wayne in almost everything except: Rio Bravo, The Shootist, She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, The Quiet Man, Ft. Apache, Red River and Rio Grande. Kevin Costner was good in Silverado,Tin Cup and The Untouchables. Other stuff, not so hot. He didn't ruin Waterworld all by himself, he had Dennis Hopper there to help him. Chuck Heston was never all that hot to me but Will Penny was a great movie, the rest were not so great, even The Ten Suggestions were a little stiff and over acted. Meryl Streep has never been a favorite of mine but she was perfect in Hollocaust and Sophie's Choice. Marilyn Monroe was funny. Even when she wasn't spose to be. Luckily for us for every 10 Chuck Hestons there is at least one Paul Muni. For every 10 Kevin Costner there is one Ed White. For all those Meryls and Marilyns there is at least one Jessica Lange and Judy Holliday. I think John Wayne was a good actor, I think Ward Bond was much better. And Ben Johnson was the best of the three. Of course thats my opinion and thats why we have horse races. Don |

(Tom Laughlin's wife) Almost everyone named here seems to just be irritating to SOME in SOME roles, but Delores Taylor gave the truly worst performance I have ever seen. It was so embarrassing I have to believe that Laughlin needed her money or something to finance Billy Jack. I have to admit though that I loved it when Billy Jack used his "pacifist boots and karate chops" to dismember the bad guy who was hassling the native kids! The Movie was awful, the theme song nauseating, but DELORES will live forever. Rick |
