Thanks

Normally I wouldn't recommend the old and outdated "Digitrad Lyrics Search" which you will presumably have seen at the top of the main Forum page; given that murder is such a favourite subject, however, you'd better start there if you want even a halfway manageable list.  Simply type in @murder, and be prepared to spend hours looking through the results you get...

Actually, @murder works in the SuperSearch as well. Does well. Gives a large number of threads covering topics such as Tom Dooley, Long Black Veil, Laura Foster can be found.

Oh, it works right enough.  Rather too well, which is why I suggested something which would return a shorter -though still pretty huge- list!  Good job we're not talking about @love; that would probably crash the server...

That's for sure, Malcolm.

I actually thought the search for Murder wasn't too outlandish for the forum search.

If it is an American folk ballad, try to put "Laws F1" to "Laws F37" into the Digitrad and Forum Search. These are Laws numbers used in Native American Balladry.

You might even ask your local librarian to fetch a copy of Olive Burt's American Murder Ballads for you via InterLibrary loan. Shucks, you might want to find a copy of your own, Right now it appears that Alibris has cornered the market on used copies, but there are ex-library copies going from $11 to $17.50 here: Take a look.

Hope i did that right! Sandy

Jonathan Goodman, Bloody Versicles: The Rhymes of Crime is a book of American and British murder ballads, mostly broadsides, lyrics and annotations only. This is in print. Price: $18.00.

You might find a couple of useful books in the Subjects/Murder section of the Basic Folk Library thread.

Cheers!
Ian
