Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: GUEST Date: 20 Sep 01 - 02:54 PM There's definately no castle at Castle Caereinion. There is a healing well in Llanfair Caereinion, but it doesn't work on bored teenagers unless you hold their heads under. There is a castle at Welshpool and one at Montgomery, a few miles away. Cheers, Bron. |
Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: MudGuard Date: 20 Sep 01 - 02:03 PM Mrs. Duck, on the detailed map of Castle Caereinion no castle is shown. I also can't remember to have seen a castle there last year, but I passed the village on the main road below. Maybe this is even better - send the bored one to the castle, it might take him some time till he finds out that there is no castle... ;-) Alanww, check your PMs again. MudGuard/Andy |
Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 20 Sep 01 - 01:46 PM Noticed on the map mention of Castle Caereinion - is there actually a castle there. We are having to drag the bored 14 year old with us and he loves castles so it could be somewhere to send him . |

Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Liz the Squeak Date: 19 Sep 01 - 01:35 AM The town is quite small. There are only 2 junctions. Look for the one up the hill from the river and on a strange 5 way junction with a chippy in the middle of it. LTS |

Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: MudGuard Date: 18 Sep 01 - 06:35 AM Liz, Bratling sounds very funny for a German. A Bratling in German is something like the mincedmeat piece in a burger. So my first thought was to let John do some more butchering... ;-) |
Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Liz the Squeak Date: 18 Sep 01 - 06:03 AM Are there any things for children planned? I have the Bratling with me again, and although she's easier to deal with than previous, she is still an unholy terror and goes to bed after me!!! I can bring tons of paper and bits of card with me if there is anyone else willing to do the actual hands on bit (and I'm not talking throats here.... ) LTS |
Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Llanfair Date: 18 Sep 01 - 04:19 AM Not as many sheep as there used to be round here, John. (and Eric)!!!! The agenda is very loose, Gareth. Those arriving Friday will meet at the Institute, where there will be a bar and food, and music and singing after/before/during. Saturday morning is for sightseeing, walking, trips on the train to Welshpool and suchlike. Last year, in the afternoon, we all took turns to strut our stuff, and this year there should be a lot more interest from the locals. In the evening, the famous Mudcat ceiliegh band foregathers (that is anyone who knows the tunes!) and a good time is had by all. We charge the neighbours a small entry fee to cover the cost of the hall. Sunday is spent in the pub. Any more ideas? |

Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Gareth Date: 17 Sep 01 - 06:58 PM Very very tempted - even more by the thought of camping near a railway not run by Railtrack. Pray could somebody post the "agenda for this weekend, other comitments prevent me from leaving Caerphilly till the Saturday Morning And will a small arthritic beer drinking terrier be welcome ? Mind you it will depend on the weather forcast. Gareth |
Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Llanfair Date: 17 Sep 01 - 05:16 PM Gareth, are you sure you are up to the fresh air and glorious scenery of mid-Wales!!!! The campsite is actually rather nice. It's by the river, and near the light railway station. I've promised that there won't be too many tents, but it's all relative, isn't it? Cheers, Bron. |

Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Gareth Date: 17 Sep 01 - 04:08 PM Tempting, very tempting to venture north in October, can you tell us what the camp site is like. Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Liz the Squeak Date: 17 Sep 01 - 10:49 AM Mudguard - your shoes didn't have to be spayed? Had they been "fixed" already? Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: MudGuard Date: 17 Sep 01 - 03:15 AM Bron, sounds good! I'd be happy to bring a cake - only problem is I do not know what the current rules are for importing food into the UK - when I flew back home two weeks ago the tires of my bike had to be sprayed with citric acid because of Foot and Mouth Desease (for some reason I do not understand the soles of my shoes did not have to be spayed). Alanww, please read your PM! MudGuard/Andy |
Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Morticia Date: 16 Sep 01 - 08:17 PM Couldn't we all bring something or other, sort of pot luck type thingie....? I promise not to bake anything....unless anyone needs a door stop of course. |
Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Llanfair Date: 16 Sep 01 - 06:09 PM Ah, yes, food!!! Friday night there will be hot food available for arrivals and anyone who wants it at the Institute. I'm planning a curry, well, two curries, one veggie, the other for the carnivores. For those who can't cope with my cooking, the chippy will be open till 10ish. Breakfasts will be available at Pippins, and My Mum's, directions later. I thought we would lay on a lovely German breakfast like we had in Muenster. There will be tea and coffee being served at the institute Saturday afternoon, with snacks, and the chippy and Pippins will be open for Lunch. For those with a tea or coffee habit, I'll lend you my front door key and show you where the kettle is!!!! Will that do? Cheers, Bron. PS, I haven't forgotten the evening meal Saturday, I'm working on it!!! |
Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Eric the Viking Date: 16 Sep 01 - 04:51 PM Hey Andy-there are sheep, me and you will roast one at midnight!! or about 03.03 when everyone else is asleep. There's a resturaunt (Pippins) Pubs do food and just a few miles away a small town,(Welshpool) where shops stay open till lateish. A chps shop-I seem to remember near the red Lion. Last year I was at the red Lion and had breakfast there. Most important to me, is how do I get hold of the required 20 cups of coffee a day? Andy, be mindful of the security on airlines, Britain has tightened right up I am led to believe (rightly so, I always carry at least one penknife, multi tool with me everywhere, don't mind packing it away to prevent future happenings though) Pippins dinner was good last year. |
Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: MudGuard Date: 16 Sep 01 - 12:54 PM Ok, so happy birthday to the 4 people! Another question for Bron: What is planned for food? As far as I remember there are no shops in Llanfair Caereinion (I hope I got the spelling right - although I did not understand you completely when you told me on the phone ;-) MudGuard |
Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Liz the Squeak Date: 16 Sep 01 - 08:03 AM So maybe next year we should be planning Llanstock 3 for a month earlier, then we can have the mother and father of all birthday parties..... Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Eric the Viking Date: 14 Sep 01 - 05:59 PM Just you make sure that he get's nice orange juice and cold soda water-or else, and has coffee on standby!!!!!! (There's nothing worse for a sheep than a drunken beer smelling attempt at rape-that's why they've gone off the Welsh!! )Hee hee. You can hit me when I get there! Better than that, hit Skip, he enjoys the pain more!!-I'll just watch. |
Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Trevor Date: 14 Sep 01 - 05:47 AM Bron, I can get a barrel of Cloud Nine, if you want, from the brewery which is just down the road from here. We had one for Squilverfest, people paid a quid a pint into an honesty box and we covered the cost. (Actually we had 'Big Nev's', but it's all good from the Six Bells Brewery). Let me know. |
Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: alanww Date: 14 Sep 01 - 04:29 AM As a CAMRA member(!), I would find it rather difficult coping without some real ale but the idea of takeouts in containers seems ok to me. And although Draught Worthington isn't my favourite brew, it would be better than fizz ... As our local CAMRA branch secretary, what do you think Snuffy? "Ale, ale glorious ale; served up in pewter it tells its own tale ...!" Alan |
Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Micca Date: 14 Sep 01 - 03:06 AM But I am pleased to note, us Cider drinkers with Tankards have no such problems..hic..hic....rampant CRS yes but consistancy of brew.... and Spaw thats not ALL they do in it... |

Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Morticia Date: 13 Sep 01 - 08:35 PM drink water???????Have you gone mad, woman? |
Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Noreen Date: 13 Sep 01 - 06:42 PM Bron, how's about we do what we did for the ceili at the Jug Gathering: bring our own containers and fill with the real brew from the pub to take out? Those big plastic bottles once you've drunk the fizzy water are ideal. N |
Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Llanfair Date: 13 Sep 01 - 04:58 PM Let's get down to some serious decision-making!!!!! The new landlord of the Red Lion will confirm wether he will do the bar for us on both nights. He said it would be easier if he only provided non-real ale brews, because they travel better. He has some "Cloud Nine" at the moment, hand made in Church Stretton, but it needs a few days to settle if it'd moved. You can get it at the pub, and he has no problem with music happening there, but it does get rather crowded on a saturday night. Paul, the new landlord, doesn't trouble himself much with trivial things like licensing laws and closing times. Draught Worthington's is the standard brew, so will that be OK? Cheers, Bron. |
Subject: RE: Llanstock 2001, part 2 From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 12 Sep 01 - 08:19 PM I will try, but it might be difficult (I have had a lot of time off work recently and we are getting busy). |
