I ran across this fragment of an old Jimmy Driftwood song in your database, which I made notes of back in 1965 while sailing in the Carribean. Hope someone is still interested!

RAZORBACK STEAK
(Jimmy Driftwood)

A razorback hog is as wild as a buck,
And the hunter who hunts him had better have luck;
You fill him with buckshot and rifle balls too,
And he'll turn around and make shoe strings of you.

Chorus:

If you think it's tender, you're crazy,
You can't stick your fork in the gravy;
Razorback steak, razorback steak,
Lost all my teeth on that razorback steak;
It's tough as can be,
Made a man out of me,
Give me some more of that razorback steak.

When Ol' Hickory Jackson met Sir Pakenham,
The British were full of hot biscuits and ham;
While the Tennessee boys were as poor as a snake,
For all they'd been eatin' was razorback steak…

When you see a gentlemen down in the South,
With a big sausage grinder way back in his mouth;
If he gives a Rebel yell, make no mistake,
He's lookin' for a woman or a razorback steak…

When I get to Heaven, I'll ask Mr. Divine,
Don't want no ambrosia to eat with my wine;
Just give me a hunk of hot corndogger cake,
A bowel of red gravy and a razorback steak…

Here are the words and a note included by Jimmy in volume 2 of his booklet of poetry and songs.

RAZORBACK STEAK
(Jimmy Driftwood)

When Old Hick'ry Jackson met Sir Pakenham,
The British were full of hot biscuits and ham,
While the Tennessee boys ere as "pore" as a snake,
For all they'd been eatin' was Razorback Steak.

A razorback hog is as wild as a buck,
And the hunter who hunts him had better have luck,
You can fill him with buckshot and rifle balls too,
And he'll turn around and make shoestrings of you.

When you see a gentleman down in the South,
With a big sausage-grinder way back in his mouth,
When he gives a rebel yell, make no mistake,
He's a looking for a woman or Razorback Steak.

When I get to heaven as Mr. Devine,
Don't want no ambrosia to eat with my wine,
Just give me a chunk of hot corndodger cake,
A bowl of red gravy and a Razorback Steak.

If you think its tender you're crazy
You can't stick your fork in the gravy!

Razorback Steak, Razorback Steak,
Lost all my teeth on that Razorback Steak,
Its tough as can be, made a man out of me,
Give me some more of that Razorback Steak.

Note:
DeSoto brought a drove of hogs with him when he came seeking treasure and the fountain of youth. Many went AWOL and reproduced in the wilds of America, until there were thousands of wild hogs, called razorbacks, by the time settlers came west of Mississippi. Fried lean meat of wild hogs was called Razorback Steak

Guest- Arkie,
These are pretty much the words as I recall Jimmy singing them, although I think your verse 2 was verse 1 and vice versa.

Good song!

    The lyrics in the DB aren't complete, I just typed these up by hand, so, if you're interested at all, enjoy :-)

    A razorback hog is as wild as a buck
    And a hunter who hunts him had better had luck
    You fill him with buckshot, and rifle balls, too
    And he'll turn around and make shoestrings of you

    When Ol' Hick'ry Jackson met Sir Packingham
    The British were full of hot biscuits and ham
    While the tennessee boys boys were as pore as a snake
    For all they'd been a-eatin' was razorback steak

    Chorus:
    If you think it's tender, you're crazy
    You cain't stick your fork in the gravy
    Razorback steak, razorback steak
    Lost all my teeth on that razorback steak
    It's tough as can be, made a man out of me
    Give me some more of that razorback steak

    When you see a gentleman down in the south
    With a big sausage grinder way back in his mouth
    When he gives a rebel yell, make no mistake
    He's a-lookin for a woman, or a razorback steak

    When i get to heaven, at which their divine
    Don't want no ambrosia to eat with my wine
    Just give me a chunk of hot corn-dodger cake
    A bowl of red gravy, and a razorback steak

    (chorus)

The Version in the DT is only a fragment. Nice to have the complete song now.

Hey Joe,

It's 'Sir PAKENHAM' as in Lord Pakenham. Also turns up in Driftwood/Morris's "Battle of New Orleans"

Does anyone have the lyrics to Razorback Steak? I remember learning this song many years ago as a bo scout. Now I'm the leader for my son's Cub Scout Den and I want to teach all the boys this funny song. I'm not having luck searching the internet.
