Subject: wayne raney songs From: GUEST,marew Date: 14 Feb 02 - 01:41 PM where can I find the lyrics to Wayne Raney songs like why don't you haul off and love me. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: wayne raney songs From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 14 Feb 02 - 02:10 PM I've got the song on tape, but am a little short of time these days to transcribe the words. I have a pile of other songs I need to get to first. I also have an lp. of the Wayne Raney Family someone was foolishly throwing away. I caught it before it hit the garbage can. He was a fine harmonicia player and he and his family recorded a lot of fine old gospel, including that classic, "We Need A Whole Lot More Of Jesus, And A Lot Less Rock And Roll." Somethings never change. I hope someone else can give you a blue clickie. I don't even know how to do that, yet.. Jerry |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: wayne raney songs From: M.Ted Date: 14 Feb 02 - 05:05 PM Not withstanding the song, Raney actually rocked and rolled quite a bit quite a number of early King records-- |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: wayne raney songs From: Rick Fielding Date: 14 Feb 02 - 05:59 PM Wayne Raney! What a treat to find this thread. Wonderful singer, harpist and writer. Sang with (my absolute Faves) The Delmore Brothers for a while, when they were both on King Records. He also recorded one of the strangest songs you could imagine (it was discussed before on the Cat) called "Undertakin' Daddy". For years he used to sell (on his radio show) his "Talkin' Harmonicas"......but Wayne made it really talk through his great skill. Rick |
Subject: Lyr Add WHY DON'T YOU HAUL OFF AND LOVE ME (Raney From: GUEST,Gene Date: 14 Feb 02 - 06:17 PM Well, I ALMOST got it....been a while... WHY DON'T YOU HAUL OFF AND LOVE ME As recorded by Wayne Raney on "The Real Hot Boogie Boy - The King Anthology" (1976) 1. They say a love bug will get you at the age of 43. I'm not tellin' my age but som'in' got a-hold of me. I'm just cravin' some lovin' in the old-fashioned way. Honey, lend an ear and listen to all I have to say. CHORUS: Why don't you haul off and love me one more time? Why don't you squeeze me until I'm turnin' blind? If you don't cuddle up and love me like I want you to do, I'm gonna haul off and die over you. 2. Now, darlin', come a little closer; put your little hand in mine. Let me feel your arms about me, honey; please don't change your mind, For my lovesick heart's a-throbbin' as I hold you close to mine. I'm bound to have a lot of lovin' waitin' for me on the line. CHORUS 3. Now I can feel your warm lips near me, hear you breathin' soft and fine. I can feel the matrimony crawlin' up and down my spine. I don't believe that love will hurt you, 'cause it feels so nice and kind. It seems mighty close to heaven when your love is on the line. CHORUS |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: wayne raney songs From: M.Ted Date: 14 Feb 02 - 08:31 PM Then you must believe, Uncle Rick, as do I, that the Delmore Brothers invented rock n'roll-- and King records was one of the greatest labels ever-- who else would have put Merle Travis together with Grandpa Jones? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: wayne raney songs From: GUEST,Arkie Date: 15 Feb 02 - 12:24 AM Wayne's son and grandson oprate a recording studio in Drasco, AR. There is also a cassette or two still available, but at the moment I cannot recall the label or distributor. It is nice to know someone is still interested in this country music pioneer. Wayne was discovered at a local talent show by Lonnie Glosson who was the featured performer. They later became partners and for about a ten year period, Wayne and Lonnie were broadcasting on radio stations in several parts of the country. WCKY in Cincinnatti was their home base, I think. They were supposedly so busy with their radio performances that they had no time for live shows. They also pioneered selling songbooks and harmonicas and I am happy to say I still have a songbook purchased by mail. Unfortunatly the harmonica is long gone. I have one or two of Wayne's recordings somewhere. They may take a while to locate. |

Subject: Lyr Add: DO YOU WANT TO GO TO HEAVEN? From: pdq Date: 28 Mar 12 - 10:20 AM DO YOU WANT TO GO TO HEAVEN? 1. Don't you want to go to heaven And walk upon the streets of gold? Don't you wabt to go to heaven And rest your weary soul? Walking in the Holy City And listening to the angels sing; Join in the heavenly choir And let your voices ring! Chorus: Don't you want to go to heaven? Don't you want to live someday? Don't you want to see your loved ones And hear the Savior say: " Welcome to the Holy City Your life has just begun!" Then you'll hear the Father saying, " Welcome home, my son" 2. If you want to go to heaven Then you must be born again Born of the Holy Spirit Let Jesus live within. Let Him be the One to guide you Let Him be the One to care Don't you want to go to heaven And have a home up there? |
Subject: Lyr Add: DON'T YOU WANNA GO? From: pdq Date: 28 Mar 12 - 10:22 AM DON'T YOU WANNA GO? There's a building program going on in Heaven construction carried out by God's on hand fifteen hundred miles wide mansions standing side by side the streets are paved with gold throughout the land Now they say they'll be no dying in that city no sickness and no sorrow will be known the feeble will be young no division all is one eternal celebrating going on CHORUS Don't you wanna go with me to God's new city Don't you wanna hear that heavenly choir sing Don't you wanna touch the nail scarred hands that brought this great salvation plan Can't you feel it stirrin' in your soul Don't you wanna go You know I have many loved ones waiting over yonder and how I long to see my precious father there All the saints will gather in immortal bodies free from sin as we praise the Lamb of God who's joy we'll share |
Subject: Lyr Add: UNDERTAKIN' DADDY (Wayne Raney) From: Jim Dixon Date: 17 Jan 22 - 12:13 PM This was too good to pass up. Transcribed by me from Spotify: UNDERTAKIN’ DADDY As recorded by Wayne Raney on “That Real Hot Boogie Boy – The King Anthology” (1976) 1. Now come to me, sweet baby, holdin’ out your hand. Well, ain’t you gettin’ lonesome for your undertakin’ man? ’Cause I’m the undertakin’ daddy; I’m lendin’ the last helpin’ hand. Well. I want to introduce you to my brand new layaway plan. 2. I promise that I’ll love you, put carnations in your hair. When all the doctors failed you, honey, baby, I’ll be there, ’Cause I’m the undertakin’ daddy; when I dig, it’s not for gold. Well, I’m the one that will stick by you even after you’ve done grown cold. 3. Now, comb your hair, sweet baby; powder your little face. We’re gonna do some lovin’ in that long-gone lonesome place, ’Cause I’m the undertakin’ daddy, and I’ll never bother you, Just as long as you’re a-livin’ and I know that you’ve been true. 4. I’ll promise that I’ll love you; I’ll dress you up so fine. I’ll let you down real easy in this cold, cold grave of mine, ’Cause I’m the undertakin’ daddy; when I dig, it’s not for gold. Well, I’m the one that will stick by you even after you’ve done grown cold. - - - The Billboard (magazine), Sep 27, 1952, page 47, column 1, announced the release of King 116: UNDERTAKIN’ DADDY b/w WHEN THEY LET THE HAMMER DOWN, performed by Wayne Raney. |
Subject: Lyr Add: WE NEED A LOT MORE OF JESUS (Wayne Raney) From: Jim Dixon Date: 17 Jan 22 - 01:13 PM A few words are different from the version in the Digital Tradition, so I decided I ought to post this version here; this is also my transcription from Spotify: WE NEED A LOT MORE OF JESUS (AND A LOT LESS ROCK ‘N ROLL) As recorded by Wayne Raney and the Raney Family on “16 Radio Gospel Favorites (Original Gusto Recordings)” (1976) 1. You can read it in the mornin' paper, hear it on the radio, How crime is takin’ our nation; this world is about to go. We need a good old case of salvation to get the love of God in our souls. We need a whole lot more of Jesus and a lot less of rock ‘n’ roll. 2. We need more old-time camp meetin's and a lot more prayers of faith, Prayers that will move a mountain, save souls from a burning lake. We need a good old case of salvation to get the love of God in our souls, We need a whole lot more of Jesus and a lot less of rock ‘n’ roll. 3. We need more old-fashioned preachers pourin' out their hearts in prayer, And when you're in their presence, you’ll know that the Lord is there. We need a nation-wide revival to get the love of God in our souls. We need a whole lot more of Jesus and a lot less of rock ‘n’ roll. - - - The Billboard (magazine), Sep 7, 1959, page 31, column 2, announced the release of Starday 116: WE NEED A LOT MORE OF JESUS AND A LOT LESS ROCK AND ROLL, performed by Wayne Raney and the Raney Family. It was later covered by The Sunshine Boys (May 9, 1960), The Greenbriar Boys (May 5, 1962), and Duckbutter (Jun 26, 1971). I think the version in the DT came from the Greenbriar Boys. |
Subject: Lyr Add: DON’T YOU WANT TO GO TO HEAVEN? (W Raney) From: Jim Dixon Date: 17 Jan 22 - 01:40 PM I think the two songs that pdq posted above are not the one GUEST,linzy wanted. This should be it (my transcription from Spotify): DON’T YOU WANT TO GO TO HEAVEN? As recorded by Wayne Raney on “20 Old Time Gospel Favorites” (2005) 1. Your mansion up in heaven won’t cost you a dime, But a call through to Jesus can spend a little time. God will buy the insurance protection for your soul And prepare for a visit, walk up the streets of gold. 2. Don’t you want to go to heaven? Don’t you want to see the King? Don’t you want to have a mansion? Don’t you want to shout and sing? Just leave it all to Jesus; he’ll show you the way. All you have to do is get on your knees and pray. 3. On earth we build a building; the years will make it old. We set a price upon it; for money it can be sold; But when we get to heaven, our mansion will be bright, And shining new throughout eternal life. REPEAT VERSE 2. |
